Chapter 230
Chapter 230
It couldn't be such a coincidence.
Daryl carried Samuel with one hand and picked up Milo with the other, and left.
Let Michael and Walter fight it out between themselves.
With the child in his hands, Nora would have to come to him anyway.
With a cold snort, Daryl got in the car.
"Mr. Fields, Mrs. Fields said she's taking an early morning flight tomorrow to Emerald City." The assistant reported to Daryl.
Daryl was stunned, "My mom's coming?"
"Yes, Mrs. Fields has always been very concerned about the Westville Village project. Twenty years ago, the project was shelved because villagers led protests against it. It's been sitting there for over twenty years, and now that the project is restarting, she's still very invested in it." The assistant nodded.
Daryl understood why Juliet cared so much about the Westville Village project.
Back then, Juliet didn't just lose her daughter because of this project—she also lost her husband.
Because she was focused solely on securing the development rights for her hometown and devoted all her energy to work, it gave her husband's mistress an opportunity to steal him away. She also went into premature labor from the stress, giving birth to Daryl's younger sister in a small county town. Due to limited medical facilities and lax management, his sister was switched with another baby, which led to their current regret.
Everyone knew that after Juliet lost her child, she developed postpartum depression, and to this day, she has never truly gotten over it.
"The most important thing for Mrs. Fields is to come find her daughter." The assistant sighed.
It had been nearly twenty-eight years since her daughter was taken, and Juliet still couldn't let it go.
"I know." Daryl knew that Juliet was coming to do a paternity test with Nora.
Daryl understood Juliet—she was too obsessed.
She had always suspected that the baby switch back then wasn't an accident or coincidence, but that someone had done it deliberately to harm her.
Moreover, Juliet had always suspected that her husband's mistress had schemed and plotted to hurt her and the child.
Daryl had investigated for many years but found no evidence.
The doctors also said Juliet had developed severe depression, and because of the baby switch, she also developed serious persecution paranoia.
In her view, everyone had ulterior motives—approaching her to steal her child or pretend to be her child.
But this time, Juliet was particularly fixated on Nora, insisting on doing a paternity test and personally overseeing the entire process.
"I can already imagine that even if the paternity test shows Nora isn't her daughter, she'll suspect the testing center of fraud." Daryl laughed helplessly.
The assistant sighed, "Mr. Fields, Mrs. Fields' condition can't be delayed any longer."
Daryl nodded, "I've already found the nurse who assisted with the delivery back then. We should be able to find out soon."
He had gone to great lengths to find that nurse from back then.
Strangely enough, she was just an ordinary nurse, yet it had taken him so many years to find her.
Perhaps there really was someone behind the scenes controlling something.
Daryl had taken Samuel and Milo, while Michael and Walter were still at each other's throats.
"What's Daryl's deal?" Walter had just realized—how was Daryl able to take Samuel?
Michael also realized it—why had he let Daryl take Samuel?
By the time they turned around to stop him, it was too late. Daryl had already successfully taken Samuel away.
Jasper spread his hands innocently, "Samuel is safe with Mr. Fields."
Michael's face darkened. He deliberately held Nora's hand in front of Walter, showing off the ring, "Mine!"
Walter clenched his fist, his knuckles cracking.
Was Michael serious?
His eyes darkened, and Walter said coldly, "Nora, if you can't take good care of the child, I'll take custody. That's what you promised me before."
Nora lowered her head, gripping Michael's hand tightly.
After a moment of silence, Nora looked up, "No."
Walter frowned.
"Samuel is with me—he has a mom, an uncle, and Michael. He's happy and can grow up healthy. But if he's with you, you'll definitely remarry, so he'll only have a stepmother." Nora finally stood her ground for once.
Clearly, Michael had given her confidence.
"Nora, are you sure?" Walter suppressed his anger.
"Even if we go to court, I have a good chance of winning. Michael will help me." Nora clung tightly to Michael's arm.
She knew Michael would help her.
They had a marriage in fact. Although Nora didn't know when Michael would divorce her and end this relationship, at least for now, if Walter fought her for the child, Michael would definitely step in.
Michael looked at Nora quietly and pulled her into his arms, "Yes."
"He's helping you? Do you know that he..." Walter's anger was intense, and he almost lost control and revealed that Michael was the man who had violated her six years ago.
But saying it would mean that he and Nora would lose even their last bit of connection.
"Let's go." Michael's heart was racing as he took Nora's hand and left.
Nora obediently followed by Michael's side, her eyes shining with light.
Walter stood frozen in place.
Since Nora got out of prison, this was the first time he had seen that light rekindled in her eyes.
When they reunited at the Silverlight City club, Nora's eyes had been as still as death.
How long had she been with Michael?
Was Michael really that good?
What was he lacking compared to Michael?
Michael couldn't give her a proper status either—he was just using tricks to coax and deceive her.
Covering his forehead with his hand, Walter irritably punched the wall.
He'd heard that Michael had already agreed to a marriage alliance with the Fields family, just waiting for the Fields family to find their biological daughter.
Michael was no different.
So why would Nora rather be with Michael than choose him?
"Mr. Wood." After Michael and Nora left, Royce finally arrived.
Running through the door in a panic, Royce looked around, "Did you have someone take the child?"
Walter was irritated, "Do you see a child here?"
"Mr. Wood, you can't keep making this mistake." Royce was breathing heavily, but despite his fear, he spoke up, "Mr. Wood, the child is Nora's bottom line. Your choice to use the child to tie Nora down was wrong from the start."
Walter's face darkened, looking at Royce with displeasure, "You're lecturing me too?"
"No." Royce lowered his head, clenching his fists, "Mr. Wood, Nora used to be the daughter of the Adams family, the apple of their eye. She once stood on stage shining brightly. When someone who should be hanging high in the sky like the moon suddenly falls into the mud, have you thought about how much pain she's in?"
Walter frowned, looking at Royce angrily.
He could tell that Royce had feelings for Nora.
"Mr. Wood, the reason Nora is in so much pain is because she's too kind! Six years ago, she was forced and hurt, which is how she had Samuel, but she never took it out on Samuel. She never vented her resentment on him. Her heart is too pure. Samuel is the light in her darkness. You can't take away her light."
Royce was practically begging Walter.
"When you falsely claimed to be Samuel's father, you should be grateful that Samuel's condition is well-controlled. But if he has an acute episode and needs his father's blood plasma for treatment, what will you do? You'd be risking the child's life..."
"Shut up!" Walter angrily threw the wine glass from the table.
