Chapter 229
Chapter 229
Haven and Eloise exchanged glances and gasped, "Aria, that's the Fields family."
They both guessed what Aria was planning to do.
"Nolan is someone who only cares about profit. Plus, we have some dirt on him. We can convince him to work together—it's a win-win." Aria sneered, "Besides, fortune favors the bold. So what if it's the Fields family? Once they get their daughter back, they can't do DNA tests every day, right?"
"And also..." Aria sneered again, "With all the Fields family's resources, they still haven't found their biological daughter after all these years. Plus she was premature—she's probably dead by now."
Narrowing her eyes, Aria spoke again, "Mom, Dad, this is our make-or-break moment. Once I become the Fields family's daughter, will the Clark family still need to worry about the Smith family? Michael will have no choice but to get engaged to and married to me!"
Aria's fingers clenched tightly.
Haven took a deep breath. Being a man, he was bolder, "I think this could work."
"I'm scared." Eloise was afraid, because this was the Fields family after all.
If the Fields family discovered it was fake, the Clark family would be completely finished.
"Where the waves are biggest, the fish are worth the most. Mom, are you willing to just watch the Clark family fall apart, watch Pearl suffer abroad unable to come home, watch those rich ladies who used to be beneath us now lord it over you?" Aria knew Eloise's weak spot.
In the past, thanks to the marriage alliance with the Wood family, Eloise had been domineering wherever she went.
Lately she hadn't even left the house.
"Alright! Mom supports you." Eloise nodded.
The three exchanged glances, all having made up their minds.
"To get into the Fields family, the first person to win over is Daryl. He's the head of the Fields family now—even his mother has to listen to him."
Seaside Grove.
In the upscale residential area, Walter looked at the child sitting on the sofa staring back at him, rubbing his temples with a headache.
Was Opal an idiot?
He asked her to bring Samuel out, and what did she send him?
"Who are you?" Milo tilted his head, asking Walter.
Seeing that Milo looked like Samuel and was quite cute, Walter took out the snacks he'd prepared for him.
"I'm Samuel's dad." Walter explained.
Milo looked confused, "But I've seen Samuel's dad, and he's more handsome than you."
Although Michael didn't like Milo and Milo didn't like Michael, Milo still thought Michael was more charming!
More charismatic.
Walter snorted, "Michael?"
Milo ate the snacks Walter gave him while praising how handsome Michael was.
Walter looked resentful, "If you say I'm more handsome than Michael, I'll send you home."
"But why am I here?" Milo looked at Walter, "Are you a kidnapper?"
"Would a kidnapper give you so many snacks?" Walter leaned back on the sofa, sipping his coffee.
"Looking at your house, you don't seem like a kidnapper." Milo's mouth and face were covered in crumbs, "I'm satisfied with your snacks."
"Whose kid are you?" Walter smiled.
"My dad's name is Atticus." Milo said while eating.
"Atticus?" Walter frowned.
That name sounded familiar.
Wasn't he the third son of the Fields family, Daryl's brother?
He'd actually gotten involved with the Fields family.
Rubbing his temples, Walter smiled helplessly, "What bad luck."
He didn't get Samuel, and brought back trouble instead.
If this really was the Fields family's child, he figured the Fields family would be coming for him any moment now.
Sure enough, there was a knock at the door.
The housekeeper opened it, and Daryl and Nora rushed in.
"Milo!"
Seeing Milo eating happily, Daryl breathed a sigh of relief.
Nora ran over to pick up Milo, looking at Walter warily, "Mr. Wood, why is the child here with you?"
"Coincidence." Walter rubbed his temples and stood up to look at Daryl, "Mr. Fields, long time no see."
Daryl frowned, glancing at Walter.
"Your mother mistook Milo for Samuel and sent him to me, saying that you being unmarried with a child was bad for your reputation and made it hard to find a partner, so she sent the child to me." Walter gave a reasonable explanation, "I only realized after receiving the child that it wasn't Samuel at all."
Nora anxiously held Milo tight and apologized to Daryl, "I'm sorry, it's my fault for not watching the child properly."
"Opal taking the child without permission is illegal. Mr. Fields, how do you plan to handle this?" Michael asked sternly from the doorway.
Daryl looked at Milo with a dark expression. As long as the child was fine, there should be no cause for alarm. But if anything had happened, he wouldn't let Opal off.
"Nora, Opal is your mother. Although this was a mix-up, her taking the child without informing anyone is very inappropriate." Daryl shifted the conflict onto Nora.
He wanted Nora to owe him.
Since it was Nora's mother, Nora would surely beg him not to pursue it.
"I'm sorry. However you want to handle it, I respect your decision." Nora didn't ask anything of Daryl, just comforted Milo in her arms.
Daryl frowned.
Nora's response left him unsure what to do.
"Just have the police take her for some education." Daryl looked at Michael coldly. Was he using him as a weapon, or deliberately making him go after Opal to drive Nora away from him?
"Mr. Fields is really generous and such a good person." Michael snorted, "Today she dares to steal a child, tomorrow she'll dare to poison someone. This kind of person has no moral boundaries."
"So Mr. Smith isn't planning to let Nora's mother off easily?" Daryl threw the question back.
Both had strong survival instincts.
But this time, Michael wasn't going to indulge Opal, "Let the police handle it however they should. Jasper, what do you think?" Michael turned to look at Jasper.
Jasper's expression was grim as he walked over holding Samuel, "Fine, let's do as Mr. Smith says."
Opal had really gone too far this time.
She was too bold.
Actually daring to steal a child.
Who knew what other crazy things she'd done.
"Samuel." Seeing Samuel, Walter instinctively moved forward.
Michael raised his hand to block Walter, "Mr. Wood, this is my son."
Walter frowned, looking at Michael, "Mr. Smith, some things aren't yours just because you want to take them."
"I'm giving those words right back to you." Michael grabbed Walter's collar, "Whatever your purpose is in using the child, I'm warning you—don't go too far."
Walter pushed Michael's hand away.
"Both Samuel and Nora are mine." Michael looked at Walter coldly.
Walter frowned. From Michael's expression, he felt a bit panicked.
Clearly, Michael must know Samuel was his son.
"Michael, do you dare tell the truth?" Walter sneered, speaking near Michael's ear.
He figured Michael wouldn't dare, because Nora still didn't know the truth.
Michael clenched his fists.
"You and I are the same. At least I haven't hurt her. What about you?" Walter's voice was low.
Michael really wanted to fight Walter, but with both children present, he could only hold back.
"Starting tomorrow, Nora will be working by my side. You two take your time fighting—I'm taking both kids." Daryl raised an eyebrow, pleased to take advantage while Michael and Walter were fighting.
Picking up Milo with one hand, Daryl reached out to Samuel, "Little guy, dare to come with me?"
Samuel looked at Daryl and nodded.
Daryl frowned. Samuel and Milo really did look too much alike.
Was it possible the two kids were actually brothers?
Startled by his own thought, Daryl turned to look at Nora.
