Chapter 214
"As far as I know, Nora is just your personal assistant. If Mr. Smith is willing, I'll pay triple to poach her." Daryl's voice was low as his gaze fell on Nora. "Or, name your terms."
Michael looked Daryl up and down. "It's such a shame Mr. Fields didn't replace Tessa in the entertainment industry. You're everywhere, always putting on a show."
Daryl took a deep breath and ignored Michael.
In his view, anything he wanted to get, even with a strong competitor like Michael, was just a matter of time.
"Mr. Smith should worry about himself first. I'm not the only one dealing with a lot lately." Daryl said coolly, looking at his watch. "I'll have someone send over Milo's supplies. Our Milo only drinks air-shipped milk, he eats only green, pollution-free organic vegetables, and the fruit must be imported ."
Nora instinctively looked at Michael. Before she moved into Michael's place, his housekeeper had also strictly controlled the ingredients.
Since she came to Michael's side, Michael seemed to have stopped being picky about anything.
Michael ignored Daryl, thinking he was being ridiculous.
"Milo has a weak heart, no emotional excitement or crying fits allowed, no intense exercise, no..."
"Enough. You talk like you've actually taken care of the kid yourself." Michael didn't want to see Daryl anymore. "Just go already. You're so busy."
Daryl snorted, proudly checking the time again. "Milo, call me if anything happens."
Milo nodded.
Only then did Daryl leave with peace of mind.
Seeing Daryl leave, Michael kicked the door shut. What bad luck this late at night.
He wanted to hang a sign at the community entrance: No biting dogs or members of the Fields family allowed.
Only then did Nora breathe a sigh of relief.
Daryl's presence was really oppressive.
Before, Nora had the same reaction when seeing Michael—her back tense, breaking out in cold sweats.
It's just that now she seemed to be gradually depending on him.
As long as Michael was there, her guard won't be the best.
"Mommy." Milo hid behind Nora, afraid of Michael.
Samuel clung tightly to Michael, afraid Milo would compete with him for his Daddy.
"Daddy is mine." Samuel declared first.
"I don't want to compete with you anyway," Milo snorted proudly.
Michael raised an eyebrow and smiled at Nora. "Let the two little ones get to know each other. We're going to bed."
Nora was a bit worried, she was concerned that Samuel and Milo wouldn't get along.
"I want to sleep with Mommy." Milo refused to let go of Nora.
Michael panicked and looked at Samuel for help.
Samuel received the distress signal and stuck his tongue out at Milo. "You're such a scaredy-cat. You're so big and still need adults to sleep with you. I've been sleeping by myself since I was two or three."
Milo puffed up his cheeks and put his hands on his hips. "That's not true. I want to sleep with Mommy."
"My mommy doesn't like kids who aren't independent. That's why I sleep by myself." Samuel got down from Michael's arms. "Come on, I'll show you my room. Daddy designed it himself for me."
Samuel reached out his hand to Milo.
Milo looked curious and followed Samuel.
"It's not as nice as the room my daddy gave me."
"No way, my daddy also gave me these teddy bears."
"The ones my daddy bought me are all limited editions, plus lots of toy cars."
The two kids had already started comparing their dads.
Neither would back down.
Michael breathed a sigh of relief, pulled Nora into his arms and smiled. "Now no one's going to bother us."
The next morning.
After being detained at the police station all night with no one to bail her out, Opal looked terrible.
She stormed home alone in anger—no one was there.
She called Jasper, but he didn't answer.
Opal sat on the sofa, she waited patiently for Jasper who never came.
Since Jasper wasn't coming, Opal decided to go find Nora herself.
Just as she walked out the door, she saw a black car waiting for her outside.
The window rolled down, revealing Michael inside.
"Where's Nora! Tell her to come see me!" Opal cursed angrily. "I'm her mother!"
"Then go prove you're her mother." Michael said coolly, gesturing for Opal to get in the car.
"What do you mean?" Opal looked at Michael suspiciously.
"Given your habit of lying, I need to see medical evidence to prove your relationship with Nora. I'll take you to do a paternity test with Nora. Until the results come out, you won’t see Nora." Michael warned, making it clear Opal couldn’t play tricks.
Opal's expression changed instantly. "You think you can just take me? Who are you to Nora? You rich people just know how to play games. Who knows what you're up to. I'm not going!"
Michael frowned and signaled for the bodyguard in the car to get out.
The bodyguard got out and grabbed Opal. "Please cooperate."
Opal was shocked and started shouting, "Help! Someone! Kidnapping!"
"Help!"
Opal started making a scene.
Michael frowned. Opal seemed very resistant to the paternity test. What was she afraid of?
"I'm just taking you for a paternity test. There's no need to be so resistant," Michael said in a deep voice as he got out of the car.
"Mr. Smith, bullying an elder so early in the morning seems a bit inappropriate, doesn't it?" Walter walked over from the end of the alley.
Michael's face darkened. "Walter, you have too much free time."
"Right back at you." Walter glanced at his watch. "Isn't Mr. Smith also here before going to the office?"
Michael frowned. "You want to stop me?"
It seemed Walter knew why Michael wanted to take Opal.
"I'm here to stop your rude behavior toward an elder," Walter said with a polite, fox-like smile.
Seeing someone speak up for her, Opal quickly ran to Walter's side. "Exactly! So rude."
Walter remained dangerously calm, watching Michael.
Michael didn't have time to tangle with Walter here. After all, Opal wouldn't run away, she would keep pestering Nora.
Coming back another day wouldn't matter.
"Although you're the only heir to Mountain Construction Group, Noah won't hand it over to you that easily. I heard Noah is looking for a new marriage alliance for you and has his eye on the Fields family," Michael walked up to Walter. "The real daughter of the Fields family has been missing and still hasn't been found. There's only Tessa, who the Fields family acknowledges as a non-blood heir."
"Tessa," Walter said the name meaningfully.
Clearly, Noah had a plan .
"Good luck with that," Michael said meaningfully and headed straight back to the car.
Walter maintained his smile as he watched Michael leave.
"Who are you?" Opal sized up Walter, noticing his expensive custom-made clothes. Anyone who could talk to Michael like that must be either rich or powerful.
"My name is Walter. I'm the father of Nora's son." Walter said with a smile.
"You?" Opal was stunned at first, then grew aggressive, "So you're the lover? You look pretty rich too. After doing that to my daughter, you think you can just walk away? Let me tell you, without a hundred thousand dollars—no, two hundred thousand dollars—this isn't getting resolved!"
Walter kept smiling meaningfully and pulled out a card. "There's five hundred thousand dollars here. As long as you help me do one thing, this money is yours."
