Chapter 210
Michael's house.
Nora sat at the dining table, gripping her phone tightly.
Jasper had already called her, telling her not to interfere and to let Opal learn her lesson.
If no one bailed her out, she'd have to spend twenty-four hours locked up for disturbing the peace.
Today, let her reflect on her actions in there.
Soon after, the police station called again.
"Isn't Opal your mother?" the officer asked.
"Sorry, I don't have a mother. Does she have proof?" Nora replied.
The officer was stunned. Clearly this family had issues, "Then let her reflect in the station for a day. Come pay the five hundred dollar fine when it's time."
With that, the officer hung up.
Nora breathed a sigh of relief and wanted to call Michael.
She wondered how things were going for him at the Smith Group.
Today, he must be surrounded by wolves.
"Nora, Michael's house is huge!" Savannah came out of the bathroom, looking around enviously, "Which woman will get to be the lady of this house someday?"
Nora froze for a moment, saying nothing.
"Nori, you need to have some ambition. Win Michael over, make him love you to death, and all this will be yours," Savannah said realistically, though it was true, "If you really win Michael over, all the suffering you've endured will have been worth it."
Nora clenched her hands tightly.
"It's just a shame we don't have the family background. Rich people like him would never choose to marry women like us," Savannah sat down in front of Nora, looking at her, "You still need to stay rational, don't get hurt, and don't fall too deep,"
Nora said, nodding.
But her head was practically buried in her chest.
She seemed to have already fallen in.
"By the way, do you know Odette Chambers? She got out of prison a couple days ago. Since she's from Emerald City, we got in touch and said we'd get together sometime."
Savannah changed the subject.
Nora looked up at Savannah, "Odette got out?"
"Yeah, apparently her husband grew a conscience," Savannah cursed, "Men, not a single good one. Odette was so stupid, going to prison for her husband. She took all the blame for forging tax documents, tax evasion, and issuing fake VAT invoices, and got locked up for four and a half years."
Odette was the legal representative of her husband's company. When something went wrong, he pushed her and the accountant out to take the fall.
"Now he's doing great out there. Horizon Medical, which has been rising these past few years, is his business," Savannah said with disdain, "There's something I didn't dare tell Sister Yanmei. I work at a luxury store, right? That day I saw her husband with a young, seductive woman, buying bags. He bought the most expensive one, over a million dollars for one bag!"
Savannah cursed away.
Nora was shocked, "Does Odette know?"
"Of course not," Savannah shook her head.
Nora felt sorry for her. Odette had taught her a lot in prison and had been there to counsel her during her suicidal period, watching over her.
"We should tell her..." Nora felt they should let Odette know this man wasn't worth it.
"But is it okay to tell her directly? She's pretty lovesick," Savannah didn't know what to do.
"Her husband and his mistress can't be going to luxury stores for the first time, right?" Nora looked at Savannah.
"Of course not. That mistress is a VIP at our store, a diamond member," Savannah was angry, "You know what diamond membership means? It means she's spent at least ten million dollars at our store."
Nora gasped, "Then we'll say there's a new item, just expensive. If she likes it, she'll definitely bring that man to pay. We'll ask Odette out and let her see for herself."
Savannah nodded, "That's a good idea."
Nora held her phone, somewhat distracted.
"By the way, do you know how small this world is?" Savannah slapped her thigh, "Odette's husband's mistress, do you know who she is?"
Nora shook her head.
"Pearl's cousin, a minor celebrity in the entertainment industry. When she debuted, she used her connection to the Clark family, even tried to latch onto Walter, saying Mountain Construction Group's Mr. Wood was her brother-in-law."
Savannah found it strange too, how everything kept circling back to the Clark family.
"The Clark family again," Nora put her hand to her forehead.
What a small world.
"If you're afraid of offending the Clark family, should we just not say anything?" Savannah was worried Nora might be scared.
Nora shook her head, "This time it's actually perfect timing."
Nora bit her lip, "What's the mistress's name? Let me look her up."
She decided she wouldn't just sit and wait anymore.
Once Michael refused the arranged marriage with the Clark family, Nolan would surely get angry and go after Michael's shares.
But what if she completely destroyed the Clark family's reputation before that happened? Wouldn't Nolan have to reconsider the marriage arrangement?
The Clark family hadn't recovered from Pearl's bullying and assault case yet, their strength greatly diminished. If news broke now that a Clark family relative was a mistress breaking up someone's marriage, then no matter how much Aria tried to win public sympathy, she couldn't save the Clark family's reputation.
Michael would just need to target the Clark family at the right moment, and they'd never be able to recover.
Then, even if Michael refused the marriage, it would be justified, just like Walter.
"Nori, are you finally going to make a move?" Savannah looked at Nora meaningfully.
Nora looked up at Savannah, "I have my bottom line. No one can touch Samuel or Michael."
Savannah smiled, "Then win him over. I believe in you."
Nora said nothing, slowly loosening her clenched hands.
Savannah reached out and hugged Nora, "Those years were hard on you."
Nora shook her head.
She was already numb to it.
"Aria doesn't deserve Michael. Michael deserves better," Nora said hoarsely after a long silence.
"What kind of family background, what kind of woman, would be worthy of a man like Michael?" Savannah asked softly.
The first thing Nora thought of was the identity of the Fields family's real daughter, "The Fields family's daughter still hasn't been found. Probably only someone with that kind of top-tier wealthy family background would be worthy of Michael."
Savannah looked at Nora in shock, then half-joked, "What if it's me!"
Nora looked at Savannah, and they both couldn't help but laugh.
"Let's not dream about being part of a wealthy family," Savannah grabbed an apple, "What's so great about wealthy families? They're all heartless people. My supervisor said rich people can only stay rich by having no conscience. If they had a conscience, they couldn't make money."
Nora chuckled, "Not all of them. Michael is really good."
Nora blushed when she praised Michael.
"Already defending him?" Savannah teased.
"No," Nora looked down.
"Don't fall too deep. If things work out between you two, I'll be the first to congratulate you. But if they don't, don't be too sad, okay?" Savannah said earnestly.
Nora nodded firmly.
