Chapter 104
Nora looked at Walter with rapid breathing, her gaze stubborn yet determined. "Michael isn't that kind of person."
"Nora!" Walter thought Nora would be shocked or disappointed, but never expected her first reaction would be to defend Michael. "You've only known him for a few days. How much do you really understand him? Michael didn't get to where he is today by being a good person."
"That's Mr. Smith's private matter and has nothing to do with me." Nora felt panicked inside, with an indescribable heaviness.
Whatever Michael was like had nothing to do with her - they just had a working relationship.
But why did it have to be Aria, and someone from the Clark family again?
She just didn't want to get involved with anyone from the Clark family anymore.
"Nora, don't get involved with Michael. He's different from me. At least my feelings for you are real - I won't use you. But Michael, he could destroy you completely." Walter released Nora and gave her a stern warning.
Nora kept her head down, saying nothing.
Walter tugged at his tie in frustration. That was just Nora's personality - the type who wouldn't turn back until she hit a wall.
She wouldn't come back until she got burned by Michael and the Smith Group.
---
Harmony City.
Michael stood by the floor-to-ceiling window of the hotel, frowning slightly.
Nora hung up on him?
Given Nora's personality, unless something happened, she wouldn't hang up on him without any response.
"Check if something happened on Nora's end. Ask the housekeeper if she went home, and check with the company too." Michael spoke in a low voice, instructing David to investigate.
David sighed. He knew Nora would be trouble.
After making some calls, David walked over to Michael with a serious expression. "The housekeeper said Nora didn't come home. The company said Nora had a conflict with Evelyn at the company entrance after work today. Nora pushed Evelyn, causing her to pass out."
Nora was becoming more reckless, daring to push Evelyn so openly now.
"You believe that?" Michael sat on the sofa with a heavy atmosphere. "Did the Adams family go after Nora?"
"Aiden took Evelyn away. The Adams family contacted Luna and Mr. Nolan Smith, saying someone like Nora shouldn't stay at the Smith Group." David sighed. With so many people trying to push Nora out of the Smith Group, he wondered if she could hold on.
"Pull the security footage from the company entrance and send it to me. Who did Nora leave with?" Michael didn't believe Nora would deliberately hurt Evelyn.
"Nora left with Walter. She probably went back to Silverlight City." David glanced at Michael and continued, "Mr. Smith, I told you before - Samuel is Walter's son. Nora and Walter have a connection that will bring you a lot of trouble."
Michael looked thoughtful. "The three-day training can't be missed. Nora will definitely return to Emerald City before work tomorrow. For her to leave with Walter so urgently, something must have happened in Silverlight City. Whatever could make Nora this concerned - that woman named Savannah, go check on her."
David wanted to say something but held back. Why was Michael putting so much attention on Nora? It was pointless.
But he could only follow Michael's orders.
Sure enough, when David called people at the club, he learned that Savannah had an accident - she was pushed down the stairs, hemorrhaged badly, lost her baby, and almost died.
"Mr. Smith, Savannah was pregnant and pushed down the stairs. She lost the baby and her uterus, but her life was saved."
Michael paused, frowning as he checked the time.
Did Nora ask Walter for help because of Savannah?
Clearly Nora didn't completely trust him, so when this happened, she didn't tell him first.
"Go to Silverlight City." Michael stood up, grabbing his coat and heading out.
David was shocked. "Mr. Smith! You have a meeting tomorrow afternoon. Going to Silverlight City now..."
Although Harmony City to Silverlight City wasn't far - just over an hour by car - it was so late. Why was Michael making this trip?
"Besides, since Nora went with Walter, he'll definitely help her handle everything."
David said anxiously.
Michael entered the elevator, his voice low. "She's my legal wife in name. Do you think I should let her owe favors to another man?"
"But that's Samuel's father, what's wrong with..." David stamped his foot in frustration but said no more. Once Michael made a decision, no one could change it.
---
Silverlight City Hospital.
"Go in. I'll wait outside." Walter let Nora enter the hospital room while he went to the smoking area to light a cigarette.
Nora looked at Walter nervously, reaching out for her phone.
Walter frowned. "You want to contact Michael?"
"He's my boss." Nora explained.
"It's after work hours." Walter felt somewhat jealous. If it were any other man, he wouldn't worry at all, but when it came to Michael, Walter's nerves were on edge.
"What right do you have to control me?" Nora's eyes reddened with anger, but she didn't dare offend Walter.
"Nora, don't test my patience." Walter's voice was low.
Nora knew Walter was angry.
Actually, Nora was afraid of Walter. The rape six years ago had left her with deep psychological trauma. She feared Walter's anger.
Lowering her head, she entered the room, thinking about how to explain things to Michael.
Inside the room.
Savannah lay pale-faced, staring blankly out the window.
"Nori." Yasmin was still there, her eyes red.
You could tell Yasmin was a good girl - at least right now, she was the only one by Savannah's side.
Hearing Yasmin call Nora, Savannah came back to her senses and looked at Nora. Her emotions finally broke.
"Savannah." Nora walked to the bedside, reaching out to her.
Savannah said nothing, just held Nora tightly.
After three years in prison together, even without words, they understood each other's pain.
It was a silent cry and roar, a helpless feeling of powerlessness even when your soul was shattered.
"How are you doing in Emerald City?" Savannah asked softly.
Nora nodded.
Savannah didn't mention the baby or her uterus, and Nora didn't ask.
Not because they didn't care, but because they understood each other too well.
"I got into the Smith Group. I'm still in training. I have to go back tonight - it's a three-day evaluation period. After I pass, I'll be Michael's personal assistant." Nora said quietly.
Savannah took a deep breath. "Nori, you need to please Michael."
Nora nodded.
"You need to climb up, climb to a height where those people can't touch you."
Savannah's voice was weak.
Nora said nothing.
"Nori, when I get out of the hospital and finish dealing with things here, I'll come find you in Emerald City. I want to start over in a new place." Savannah smiled with a hoarse voice.
"Okay, I'll wait for you in Emerald City." Nora patted Savannah's back.
"Savannah..."
Savannah was about to say something when her gaze fell on a man entering through the door.
Nora also turned to look. It was the manager from the club.
Nora had seen him before. He looked decent with regular features, but she never thought he'd be such an irresponsible person.
"Savannah, the club's been busy. I just now had time to come see you." The man said quietly. "How are you?"
He clearly knew everything but pretended not to.
Savannah spoke with a stern expression. "The baby's gone, and I lost my uterus too."
Since he was playing dumb, she'd lay it all out.
"Savannah, rest well. Here's thirty thousand dollars. Last time you asked about our relationship - I don't think we're right for each other. My mom doesn't really approve either." The man put the money on the bed and turned to leave.
"A child, a woman's entire life - thirty thousand dollars? You're not much of a man." Yasmin said angrily.
Nora looked at the man, finding it all so ironic.
This was reality.
"It's not my fault she fell down the stairs. Without a uterus, she can't have children anymore." The man muttered quietly.
