Chapter 38 Many Losses
Chapter 38 Many Losses
"Are you happy to see me dying in the middle of a heavy rain?" Lucy asked suddenly.
"Who can predict the rain? I didn't tell you to get rained on, but you took advantage of the situation to get attention." Lucy's eyes narrowed, looking disbelieving that I could say this to her.
"I swear I'll make Andrew hate you," Lucy said with determination.
"Please, that's very helpful. You know yourself that I really want a divorce." I flipped my hair. I didn't want to talk to her anymore, so I intended to leave, but Lucy's words made me fall silent.
"The media will be swarming you now. They'll know you faked your death." Lucy's words made me turn toward her. If she wasn't sick, I swear I would have charged at her and taught her a lesson.
"Did you tell the media about me?" I asked to confirm.
Lucy shrugged. "If there's anyone smart there, they'll digest every scream I had in front of Sarah's house. They'll remember that I came because you told me to. They must be curious why the names of deceased people are being mentioned again." Lucy smiled, a smile that felt like she had won.
I can't waver or be afraid; I can't feel intimidated when facing a woman like this. I have to be able to turn the tables and make her afraid. I thought for a moment before speaking.
"You know that Andrew and I agreed to hide that, right? The media must not know that I am still alive. Andrew agreed. Now, what if he knew you were leaking my whereabouts?"
My words seemed to have an effect; Lucy gripped the blanket on her lap tightly, her jaw clenched hard, and her eyes were red with emotion. I managed to bait Lucy; now she's filled with fear that Andrew will scold her for revealing my presence. Just when she felt noticed, just because of a small mistake, she was going to get Andrew's anger again.
I'm really leaving Lucy's room now. Lucy threw a pillow at me, and even though it didn't hit me, she's still so bold after getting Andrew's attention, as if she has the whole world in her hands.
There's no point in bothering with Lucy; I chose to go back to my room. Crouching back down near the pot on the balcony to hear how Andrew was conversing and negotiating with the reporters to get them to leave quickly.
"How is Lucy doing now?"
"She's fine," Andrew replied. There was no anger in his words, and it was impossible for Andrew to be angry that the location of his house had been discovered. He's definitely protecting his image in front of the public, even though I'm sure Andrew is quite bothered by the sudden arrival of so many reporters.
"If that's the case, let us meet with her for clarification."
"That's right!" All the reporters unanimously confirmed what one person said. The atmosphere became boisterous again with the crowd roaring, demanding that Lucy be brought out to speak with them directly.
"Lucy still needs recovery; even though she's conscious, her body still has a high fever." Andrew tried to calm the reporters' commotion.
"You care about her so much, Mr. Andrew. Do you actually like Lucy? When you hold her, you look so brave and charming, like someone who is very protective of their love." A female reporter asked loudly.
"No, she is my friend and employee. Of course I have to protect her. To this day, Matilda still has love for me." Andrew's words always make my heart flutter, but his actions are always the opposite of what he says.
"Wait! When I was at Sarah Olsen's house, I heard Lucy mention the name Matilda. Is she really still alive, and you're hiding her?" The atmosphere became chaotic again. It's true, it seems, that Lucy said her arrival was dictated by me. And the reporters were so sharp, they could catch Lucy's hidden meaning.
"No. My wife is gone. She just told Lucy to apologize to the people she had hurt." Andrew is bragging.
"But how did your wife know about the Sarah Olsen incident? The Sarah Olsen case was after her death." The reporter kept digging into every word he said. Andrew should have just stayed inside from the beginning and let them stay there until they were exhausted.
"No. My wife knows Lucy; she just asked to apologize to anyone Lucy has hurt, without exception."
"Your words are ambiguous, sir. Be honest, Matilda is still alive, you like Lucy, and Sarah Olsen's accident was purely Lucy's doing, which is why Lucy came to apologize." Shout after shout could be heard cornering Andrew now.
"Lucy apologized for wanting Sarah Olsen's report withdrawn, not for admitting fault." And other boasts would only make reporters even more curious.
In that chaotic atmosphere, someone suddenly touched my shoulder. I jumped, seeing Anthony right next to me.
Anthony rushed to pull my hand inside, taking off his hat before speaking to me. "Why did you take so long to come?" I couldn't help but ask first.
"There are many problems in the village. Since Andrew arrived in the village, everything has become more complicated. Our garden's supply was rejected, some collaborations were stopped, building materials ran out before our houses were fully finished, and all suppliers refused to send building materials to our village even when we offered double the money."
Anthony's words surprised me. I didn't know there were so many problems in the village. I was just waiting for Anthony to come and save me with Collin. Without knowing the village was in a critical state and facing many difficulties.
"Forgive me, it's all my fault. Andrew is definitely the one who caused all of that to happen to our village. I will speak to him kindly to retract all his statements that have caused so much harm to the villagers," I said. I must take responsibility for everything that has happened in the village. The villagers have been too kind to me; how can I leave such an impression on them?
"We don't mind as long as we can still eat. We were just thinking about you, afraid you'd get hurt by Andrew here. And when they found out that Collin was being held in the detention room, they became even more worried and always asked me to come here. But I can't leave the village in this state. Am I forgiven for being late?" Anthony looked regretful.
"No, don't apologize. You need to think about the villagers first." I asked Anthony to convey this to the villagers as well; I don't want to worry them any further.
"Collin can get out on his own, I'm sure. And if he manages to get out later, please still accept Collin in the village. He said he'll come back to the village again. Now go back to the village and just wait for Collin to arrive soon. Only then can you two plan to run away with me."
