Chapter 27 Hiding Place Discovered
Chapter 27 Hiding Place Discovered
"Do I still need these medications? Didn't you say yesterday that I was cured of all my traumas and symptoms?"
"Just in case. If you ever need them, you can remember these medications. Look, this is a sedative, and the dosage is only for single use. This one is a B-complex vitamin to improve your mood. It can be eaten anytime as long as it's in the right dosage. Remember all the brand names, so if I'm gone one day, at least you'll remember the names of these medications." Collin asked me to remember all these medications, but instead, I felt like this was a farewell disclosure.
"Why do I have to remember it now?" I asked, interrogating.
"Since I happened to be in touch with Kate, I asked her to bring any medications you might need," Collin said.
"Why did you suddenly contact Kate?"
"To monitor the situation outside after we've been gone for a whole month," Collin said, not feeling intimidated at all, even though I asked quite firmly.
"Didn't we agree to only monitor the outside situation through television and social media?" I asked again.
"Don't you like me contacting Kate?" Collin's question this time made my body, which was initially leaning forward, sit up straight. Both Anthony and Collin were now looking at me, waiting for an answer.
"I just feel like this is too rushed. I'm worried someone might find out about our existence," I said loudly, not wanting to appear cornered to anyone. Being in this village and learning so much has boosted my confidence tremendously. I feel like I have value, I can defend myself, and I can do things like farming to survive and eat. I don't need to be afraid of anything anymore, and things are just me expressing my own opinion.
"Matilda's concerns are understandable. You should have discussed it first before contacting that woman named Kate," Anthony defended me.
Just at that moment, God truly answered my prayers. The sound of a car was heard, something we rarely hear beside deliveries of produce from the fields and gardens sent outside, especially a car at midnight like this; it's almost impossible in our village.
A car stopped in Aunt Rose's yard, followed by two other cars. When someone got out of the car, Anthony and Collin immediately hid me behind their bodies.
"What's your purpose for coming to our village late at night?" Anthony asked.
"We received information that someone who had died is actually still alive in this village." That statement made us tense up, but we had to try our best not to appear disturbed by it. And Collin's physical changes shouldn't have made them realize he was the psychology doctor who went with me.
But let's remember who this man who's coming is. Is he Andrew's henchman or Lucy's lackey?
"Who do you mean? Here, there are only villagers who don't know anything. Please don't make noise in the middle of the night when people are resting." Anthony tried to politely get rid of them.
"Here, let me tell you." The man held out his phone, which contained evidence of a conversation between him and someone else.
"I'm meeting Dr. Collin at eleven o'clock later. You can follow me to find their location. I'm not lying; they're still alive." The message on the phone was read by all of us. Collin clenched his jaw and said very softly, "That's Kate's cell phone number.
"I sighed. I've had a bad feeling since the beginning, and now everything is happening.
I glanced at the man, and suddenly he glanced at me too. "Mrs. Matilda, let's go back home." I took a step back; now I remember someone. The man in front of us is Gerry, Andrew's subordinate and bodyguard. How could I not remember this face all this time?
"He's Andrew's subordinate," I said quietly.
"There's no Mrs. Matilda you're talking about. She is my sister, Marin. Maybe she just looks a little bit like the person you're looking for." Anthony is once again trying to solve the problem through negotiation alone. However, Gerry wasn't someone you could talk to; he would do everything with actions.
"If she's not Mrs. Matilda, why does she look afraid of me?" Gerry asked, grinning menacingly. At that moment, the doors of other cars opened, and other men emerged to help Gerry.
"Damn it!" Anthony cursed; he was the one who started it by hitting Gerry first, asking Gerry to back down and give up by fighting him.
As they fought, other men also attacked Collin and me. Collin was busy fighting them, and we got separated.
I fended off their hands that were trying to touch me and drag me away. They certainly didn't expect me to fight back. I also gave them some pretty hard punches. Until the people attacking me now increased to three. I looked for an opportunity to run toward the kitchen and get a knife. I used it to fight them; repeatedly my movements could slash their bodies until they groaned slightly in pain.
I can't lose; Anthony and Collin even fought five people at once. I have to be able to beat these three who still haven't given up.
In the midst of the fight, Aunt Rose woke up and went outside to see what was happening. She screamed at the top of her lungs when she saw us fighting. And at that moment, the villagers came out of their homes, and the uncles arrived with their tools to fight Andrew's men.
Andrew's men didn't want to lose to the villagers or us. Gerry ran with the torch from the side of Andrew's house and threw it into the villagers' homes. The fire blazed, a fire was created, and the uncles who couldn't fight just left to save their homes.
I didn't help much, as Collin and Anthony were also busy fighting Andrew's strong henchmen. The aunts cried as they carried Aunt Rose to safety. The cries of those watching their homes burn made me very angry at Andrew's men.
With a gesture toward Collin and Anthony, I asked them to direct Andrew's men to a wider area, away from the villagers, to avoid further damage to our settlements.
One of Andrew's henchmen was eventually defeated by Anthony, and another was subsequently defeated by Collin. While I'm still holding on with three crew members chasing me. I'm completely exhausted, especially when my knife slipped and ended up in their hands.
A scratch on my arm and leg. I fell to the ground and started to give up, but Collin came and fought them, telling me to run.
While the people I was fighting were being dealt with by Collin, I ran back to the villagers' homes. The fire is spreading and getting bigger. Everyone tried to put out the fire, but they lost hope. A fire this big must have already destroyed a lot of their belongings. The aunts screamed hysterically, while the uncles cried as they put out the fire with buckets of water.
And I am the cause of all this chaos. The woman who always brings disaster wherever I am.
