Killed himself

Killed himself
He hoped so. I really hoped so.
I pulled my phone out of my pocket and called Rose .
What's up, boss, need some help with another body?
I sighed. "Sort of."
The clicking of the computer keys ceased. "Really?"
"Dominic simply eliminated all five members of his team before he killed himself."
"Shit!" she gasped. "Why?"
My mysterious benefactor threatened his family. It must have been something serious for him to turn on us. Could you go see them and tell me if they're okay? Then investigate thoroughly to find out how he was attacked.
Sure. And I'll send a cleanup team to your location.
"Fine."
She snorted. "You could say 'thank you,' you know."
"I know," I said before hanging up.
Axel let out a laugh and reached out to help me up off the floor. "This is getting messy, how are we going to trust our men now?"
It was a valid question, but I didn't have a satisfactory answer. I couldn't get rid of everyone, it would be ridiculous. And if my interpretation of Ronin was correct, he probably didn't do the same thing twice. But he was right. I was going to be watching over his shoulder until I ripped his damn throat out.
HANNA

"Hanna, honey! " shouted Mery over the phone. "What the fuck are you doing talking to me, when you should be getting waited on by those sexy sailors?"
I laughed at her. God, how good it was to hear her voice. I could tell she was having a good time somewhere. Her voice had that high-pitched, boozy twang to it, and there was a powerful bass coming from the building she was in.
"I miss you!"
"Whyyyyy?" he whined, and I imagined his face scrunched up in disapproval. "You must be too busy to miss me! I've seen those pictures, you look happy."
"I am," I replied, and was surprised it wasn't a lie.
"Oh! You've met someone, haven't you? " she asked in a cheerful voice as she moved to a place with less music. "Tell me!"
Where did I start? I couldn't tell him that I was the head of a notorious crime family, that I had been kidnapped and was unfortunately involved in a plot to ruin his life. "He's... nice."
"Bailey Barrot " he snorted. You didn't just say he's "nice". What does he look like?
"Okay, he's beautiful."
I knew that! Tell me more.
"He's a little taller than me, black hair and some of the bluest eyes you've ever seen. He has lots of tattoos."
"Oooh, he seems like a bit of a bad boy."
Pfft, and here I didn't know that. "He was a little standoffish at first, but eventually he perked up."
Good. Relax and enjoy yourself. I'll be here when you want to come back.
"Thank you," I said softly as Chase climbed into my lap, stretching his back as I stroked his fur. I hadn't seen him in a while and wondered where he'd gotten to.
Where is he from?
I didn't think there was anything inappropriate about answering that. "Misthaven.

Get the hell out of here! What are the odds of finding someone from the same town on an Aruba cruise?
Aruba? Was I supposed to be there? Fuck, Acheron! He could have picked a place a little more credible. How was he going to pay for that on a resident doctor's salary? "I know, right, what are the odds?"
"Almost nothing, honey," he said with a laugh. It was probably a good thing she was a little tipsy from the alcohol. Maya, sober, was as sharp as a Bonnie knife . "Ooh, you want to know a secret?"
"Always."
"They're going to fire Dr. Kang," she whispered.
"Really?" I couldn't hide the surprise in my voice. I thought they would have to take Dr. Kang out in a coffin before he could leave on his own terms.
Seriously. The medical staff hasn't been doing what he wants, so he's started getting mad at everyone, including the Board. I guess he's run out of free ride options.
"I guess so, "I muttered.
"But enough about that jerk, tell me more about this new guy you have in your life."
Have you ever felt an instant connection with someone? Maybe you didn't quite understand it, but you felt it anyway.
He let out a musical chuckle. "No. Are you high, Hanna?"
Could you be high just by being with another person? If so, then yes, I was definitely high on Damon .
"Maybe " I admitted." It just speaks to a part of me that I was unaware of."
"I'm glad, Hanna I'm glad. Take care of yourself. now fuck off and enjoy Aruba, honey!"
"Yes, ma'am "I said with a chuckle, unsettling Chase . He looked at me with narrowed eyes and I tickled his chin by way of apology.
"I love you, Hanna baby."
"I love you too, Mery ."
She blew me a kiss over the phone and left. No doubt back to having fun wherever she was. I hoped that would bother me. That she could go out and have fun while I was locked in this gilded cage. But it didn't. I realized that, despite all my demands to go home upon arrival, fear and panic had settled in as my connection with Damon strengthened .
But what did that really mean? Damon had mentioned eternity, but I couldn't even fathom what it would be like. I was human, I didn't understand eternity-how was this supposed to work between us? What would happen when I grew up and Damon stayed the same? It terrified me to think that I was rushing, that I was throwing myself headlong into whatever was between us, but when life was so short, what was the point of waiting?

I had always made good decisions. I studied hard, worked hard and, when I had the opportunity, I had a lot of fun. I just didn't party much. With my job at the hospital, I didn't have time to do much of anything but sleep. And it was usually Mery who would get me out of my mind so I could let loose once in a while. But Damon...it made me want to tell the world to go fuck itself. That I was jumping off the cliff into the unknown, hoping I wouldn't crash and burn when I hit bottom.
