Alex's POV.
After she left my office, I noticed Trent talking to her, almost like he was waiting for her to come out.
For some reason, one of my most loyal employees was annoying the crap out of me. And what the fuck did he want with Sophia?
The way he was so brazenly talking to her and making her laugh right outside my office made me want to punch him square in the face.
“What's wrong with me though?”
I went over to the mini-fridge at the corner of my office and got out a candy bar. Just then, my phone rang. It was Dad calling.
“Hey, Dad.”
“Alex, where are you?”
“I'm at work. Why?”
“I need you to do something for me,” he added.
“Is everything okay?” I frowned.
He sighed “Your sister has planned an outing with her friends.”
“So?” I groaned.
“At night, in a club” my Dad exclaimed.
“Jeez! And she told you?” I asked sarcastically.
“Don't make me kick your ass,” he joked.
I let out a laugh “Alright, what do you want me to do?”
“I want you to go after her. Don't make your presence known to her, just keep a close eye on her and the people she meets. Make sure she's safe.”
“Jeez, Dad. What am I now? A babysitter? Maybe I should've trained to be an undercover agent instead.”
“I'm not joking here,” he warned.
I sighed “I think you should let her be. She's smart now.”
“And I'm smarter, Alex. I know how those clubs are. Filled with douchebags like you. The last thing I want is some horny creep taking my daughter home.”
“Ouch,” I narrowed my eyes for a moment. “You still think I would go after that blow to my ego?”
“Yes, because if you don't, I'll kick your ass through the phone.” We both laughed.
“Okay, I'll go,” I said in between laughter.
“Good” I could hear the smile in his voice. Man! My dad can be one scary guy. I can still remember our kickboxing matches.
He defeated me easily with his expert techniques, but at least his training exercises gave me this swoon-worthy body and amazing stamina.
“What time is she leaving?” I asked “7 pm. Be at the club near her campus.”
“Okay, fine” I sighed
“And go meet your mum soon, she's missing you.”
“Okay, Dad.”
“Alright” I cleared my throat “I should probably leave now then.” And with that, we hung up.
At exactly 7 pm, I was at the club and my sister was nowhere to be seen.
I had a few drinks and then it was 8 pm but Andrea was still not there. At 8:30 pm, I got a text from Dad saying that she canceled her plans and was now at the mansion sleeping soundly because of an early test tomorrow.
“Ugh,” I groaned. What a bummer!
As I got outside the club to leave, a certain brown-eyed girl caught my attention.
***
Sophia's POV.
I needed to stop falling for Steph's innocent charms. If I hadn't agreed to be here, I wouldn't be sitting on a couch, alone, in a club.
As soon as we entered the club, Steph dragged me to the dance floor and after dancing for almost an hour, she ditched me.
At least she was by my side for an hour!
My throat was getting dry so I decided to go grab a drink.
When I got to the bar, the bartender gave me a wide smile and a once-over look. He had sandy brown hair and gray eyes.
“What can I get you, beautiful lady?” He winked and I laughed at his frail attempt at flirting. By the looks of him, he looked around my age.
“Sex on the beach,” I replied.
“Uhh...nice choice,” the bartender remarked as he went to fix my drink.
“I am Jack by the way.”
“Sophia."
Jack was such a sweet guy and I couldn't help but laugh at all the ridiculous stories he was telling me.
I talked with Jack for a few more minutes and then decided to go outside to get some fresh air. The crowd was making it hard for me to breathe and I knew that few more minutes here, I was surely going to faint.
I had just made it outside the door when someone called out my name. I turned and my body instantly relaxed when I saw Stephanie waving frantically at me, beckoning me.
She was talking with two other guys. I walked up to them.
“Where were you going?” she asked.
“Just outside for some fresh air since you decided to leave me all alone in there,” I said pouting.
She just laughed at me and intertwined our fingers, then she turned towards the guys and introduced them to me as Jake and Colin, her friends and co-workers at the coffee shop.
I noticed how discreetly she left me alone with the guy named Colin.
Could this be Steph's frail attempt at matchmaking? I almost laughed.
I took a deep breath. I didn't know that I would miss oxygen this much.
“I can see you don't like clubbing that much,” Colin began.
“How can people like it? It's too crowded and smelly!”
He laughed heartily and I noticed how handsome he was.
“Well, Steph tells me you get so engrossed in your work that you sometimes forget how to have fun”.
I swear I'll sew her big mouth closed! I muttered.
“Then teach me how to have fun.” I was shocked at my reply but willing to throw caution to the wind.
He grinned “That's only if you agree to dance this slow song with me.”
We were standing outside the club and the music was blaring so loud, I bet the entire area could hear it.
Colin placed his hands on my waist as I put my arms around his neck and we swayed slightly with the music. Even though we were near the club, it felt peaceful out there.
The song ended and he surprised me by kissing my forehead but before I could say anything, someone cleared their throat from behind and I jumped in fear.
There he was, standing right in front of me with a black button-up shirt and denim jeans. His hair was spiked to perfection with a hint of messiness as always.
His eyes turned dark on spotting Colin's hands around my waist. Must be my imagination. Again.
Maybe this was the universe's way of telling me to never go to a club again!
