**Chapter 9: Marriage Is Hell**

I took in a huge breath as I opened my eyes. I looked around. I was completely nude and standing alone in complete darkness. I heard a deep voice click its tongue. I turned toward it. “Who are you? Where am I?”

Out of the darkness came a tattooed man with long black hair. He oozed confidence and power. His eyes burned with intensity. “Lexi, you are dead. This is Hell and I am the Devil but you can call me Arioch,” he said as he approached me. I knew that he was telling the truth because I heard the voices of all of my previous husbands screaming in agony…all but one…Brent. Where was he? Did he survive? I found a small part of me hoping that he did.

However, soon he appeared beside Arioch who looked at Brent and said, “Our final guest has arrived. Lexi and Brent, you both were my gift to each other. I reward those who eradicate vermin, but you tainted my gift!” Illuminating where we were in an eerie light, fires erupted from all around. Arioch replayed both mine and Brent’s lives apart and together. I looked at Brent during my favorite moments to find him looking back at me with the same fond expression. Arioch snapped his fingers which changed both Brent and I’s appearances and put clothing onto our naked bodies. “I am giving you both one last life together, but remember one thing…” he paused as he made tattooed rings appear on Brent and I’s left hands. Arioch’s eyes bore into us, “Remember, marriage is hell!”
