Chapter 41

Chapter 41
Chapter Forty-One

Kane POV

Locking the door to my apartment, I looked back. I didn’t want to leave her. My dragon didn’t want to leave either. The beast wanted to take her high into the mountains where our flock lived. To hide her deep away where no other could reach her.

Sarah wouldn’t like that. She liked people, for the most part.

Even though we could feel her anger, the dragon was happy. Sarah was mine and I knew that after some time, she’d forgive me.

If she didn’t, I’d spend the rest of my life showing her how sorry I was.

My keys jangled as I pulled them from my pocket. I want to shed my clothing, to shift and fly into the night. I knew that I couldn’t. Even though I’d get there faster. It wouldn’t go well for a dragon to land downtown in front of Moonlight. I’d get myself in trouble with both Drake and Marcus.

Pulling out my phone, I sent a text message to Drake and Owen, letting them know that I was on my way. I pressed the button on my key fob. Unlocking the truck before opening the door and jumping into my seat. Closing the door, the sound loud in the quiet of the night. Sliding my key into the ignition, I turned it, letting the engine come to life before pulling out of my parking spot.

Sarah’s car sat beside mine in the spot that I liked to think of as hers. My motorcycle sat covered on the other side. It made me smile. I hoped that I could talk her into moving in the long term. She was stubborn, and I knew that it would take a lot of work. But she was worth it, and I wanted to make our house a home.

If she wanted a bigger house, I’d get her one. I’d make sure it even had an office so she could write when she wanted to.

My beast felt content, and I knew that I would. After I got this mess figured out with the guy asking about my mate. Then I could focus on getting my mate to forgive me.

The drive to the bad felt like it took forever, but in reality it only took ten minutes at most. Parking near the alleyway entrance, I got out of my truck. Breathing in the familiar smell of beer, tobacco, and various other shifters. One stood out to me. It clawed at the back of my mind. I’d smelled it before, and it still lingered on my mate’s skin.

Was the wolf that she’d spent the weekend with hunting her?

Pushing open the backdoor, I stepped inside of the club. The band was already in full swing, groupies clinging to the stage. Eli only had eyes for his mates though, he played the part though. Singing the crowd up while Dev and Candy kept pace with him.

Candy dipped her head when she saw me, motherhood had tamed the wild wolf. She looked tired, but happy as she beat the drums. Dev looked worried, he always looked worried. I felt for the guy, I really did. His mate was still working through what horrors she’d been put through at the hands of the Elder’s council.

Right now she sat at the bar, her hair in her face as she watched Dev. Hands twisting in her lap beside Louis, I knew it was a struggle for the dragon, but he’d been the most help for her.

Turning away from them, I ran up the metal stairs to Drake and Owen’s office. Careful to knock, there was no telling what you could walk in on with those two and their mates.

The door opened and Abby looked up at me. Her cheeks flushed, her shirt hastily buttoned up, and I knew that I’d made the right decision. “Good evening, Abby.”

She smiled at me, smoothing her hair behind her ears. The delicate bite mark on her neck told me all I needed to know. Owen had been feeding on her. “Kane, Owen was just pulling up security footage for you.”

She stepped to the side and I walked into the office. Owen stood with his back to me, his shoulders stiffening, and I knew that he was on edge. Drake stood up from his desk, resting a hand on his mate’s shoulder. I watched the slim vampire relax into the touch. I was happy for him. Vampires and dragons were closely related and we craved blood.

Not as much as his type did, but the longing was still there. I didn’t have to fight with a demon as the other man did. Drake looked over his shoulder at me before motioning me closer. “I thought you might want to see who the wolf is.”

Owen’s head tilted to the side and he looked back at me, his eyes still held that golden light from his demon being so close. I watched his nostrils flare for a moment, “Congratulations.”

“Thank you.” I dipped my head.

Abby came up closer to me, careful not to touch me. I knew that her sisters had been pulling from her with their own babies and she had to be careful not to awaken the desire of others, lest her succubi wake to feed. It had created many moments that her mates had to rescue her from.

“You finally confessed to her?” Her words were soft, I knew she didn’t have the same sense that Amelia did. I wasn’t sure the reason, and I figured it was best not to pry.

“He mated with her.”

“Like mated-mated?” Abby asked, passing her hand back and forth between her mates, “Or sex, because you guys need to be clear.”

“Mated-mated.” I said, leaning against Drake’s desk. “I claimed her.”
