Chapter 173 DADDY IN-LAW DEAREST
Chapter 173 AFRAID
Bohdi’s POV
Maverick paused, his brows furrowed as he processed the words. For the life of him, he looked confused but then he shrugged and nodded.
“Okay. But I warn you, I don’t have anything good enough for any of the three of the fancy clubs y’all are members.”
I knew he’d just feuded the number but he was right. We were members of three country clubs ever since Father had argued with a ball-pick girl and didn’t like the outcome of the conversation.
“I don’t think he’s going to want to take someone like you to the country club,” I replied absentmindedly.
Maverick burst out into little chuckles, shaking his head. What? What was it?
“Someone like me, you said,” he repeated, still clearly amused. “Think about it, Baby.”
Someone…
Oh. I heard how it sounded now. But I hadn’t meant it like that. I meant he wouldn’t want to take the man whom he’s accusing of being gay with his son, especially when you look he looked a little dangerous because of the tattoos I had.
“I’m sorry. It’s just…”
Maverick waved me off, dropping his hand to wave. “It’s okay Bodhi."
Thank Goodness because I didn’t have time to try and dig myself out of a hole. “Thanks.”
Now it’s back to the matter at hand.
“Okay so, we don’t have a lot of time. We have to run through a few things besides. For instance, etiquette, dinner manners—“
Maverick chuckled again, cutting in. “I need to practice my manners, really?”
That wasn’t what I meant, at all. “No Maverick, I meant—“
He was smiling again, watching me scramble to get my words out. “Relax Baby,” he said, “I’m all kidding.”
I sighed, giving in. Maverick had just found out his father died a few minutes earlier. I would let him find laughter anywhere he could.
Maverick shook his head. “My manners are just fine,” he said, reaching for his phone.
But the downside was that he wasn’t taking this seriously! And he should because my father was a very observant man.
I tried to get us back on track again. “But Maverick, please could we actually—”
“No, really,” Maverick maintained. “It’ll be fine.”
No. No, it wasn’t fine.
And I was sure of that.
“I’ll just refrain from kissing you,” he continued, then pressed his lips to mine.
I sighed into the kiss, my hands snaking up behind him. It was slow, sensual and when I pulled away I licked my lips, wanting to taste him on me.
“I’ll refrain from touching you of course,” he nodded, punctuating his words by placing his hand at my waist and pulling me even closer, until I was pressed to his front.
“And most importantly, I will try my best to refrain from fucking you,” he grinned, rolling his hips where it joined with mine.
A flash of desire rushed through me, almost successfully making me forget what I was talking back.
That was the way it had been lately. I wanted him more and more as the days passed.
Maverick only had act a little suggestively and I was ready to go. Which was not great for the upcoming trip we were about to embark on.
Gods, help me.
“Hey,” he said, pulling my jaw gently back to look at him. I hadn’t even realised my gaze had wandered. “We’ll be fine, okay.”
I nodded… but I had a bad feeling about this, putting Maverick and my father in an enclosed space.
Plus I had a secret I hadn’t told him.
I had to tell him, and I had to tell him soon. I could even take Maverick back to my Father without him knowing I was engaged. Would he be mad that I’d kept that for him?
I had no choice.
I made up my mind as I let myself be led to Maverick’s bed. I would tell him tonight before we went to sleep.
—-
I was a coward.
I didn’t tell Maverick about Belinda last night. I let him blow my mind and then cuddled up with him afterwards. I had several opportunities to tell him, to just spit it out and brace for his reaction but I didn’t.
I was afraid. Too afraid. Now was not the time to be dropping things I had been hiding from him. It was not the time to be getting into a ‘lover’s quarrel’ in front of Father, I’d thought.
I got into the cab, settling in for the ride to the airport. When Maverick got back from his classes, he’d find out I’d left without him.
I exhaled shakily.
I had decided to keep secrets. What was one more?
I had thought about taking Maverick home. I thought I had even decided already that he was indeed coming with me. But again I got to thinking and it just wasn’t possible, no.
It was risky taking Maverick, just too risky. One wrong move, one stolen gesture, one familiar affectionate touch and it was over.
The best option for me was to brave my father myself.
