Chapter 172 DADDY DEAREST
Chapter 172 DADDY IN-LAW DEAREST
Maverick’s POV
I spun around, moving out of Bohdi's hold. I could see the surprise he wore on his face from my words, no doubt.
I sniffed, dropping my gaze, not because I took those words back, no.
I meant every fucking syllable.
I began to pace, each step drawing anger from deep within me. Bohdi got out of my way as I passed but I could still feel his eyes in my back.
I shouldn't.
That was enough I had already said on the matter. Anybody that heard me would know how I felt about my father and his sudden death, the coward. I didn't need to rant.
But I really, really wanted to.
And I had found out that I really couldn't keep my mouth shut around this man.
“I can’t believe he’s dead,” I burst out, throwing my hands into the air in frustration. “He just couldn’t wait! Fucker!”
Bodhi was looking at me, head cocked, like I was a TV channel he just couldn’t change nor look away from. I didn’t mind, I wanted the audience.
“Oh, I wish every regret he had flashed through his mind. I hope he remembered all of them! Although I can't imagine he has a heart that can hold on to things like regret or guilt.”
Bohdi didn't even respond, still watching me with an awkward but sympathetic look.
He must think this was how I proceeded grief. It wasn't. I felt no single ounce of grief for that man, not even a bit. Good riddance, in my opinion.
“I hoped Raymond went home even and came back to the news. Father did not deserve to have that kind man by his bedside when he died,” I said hotly.
Oh, Raymond. He was the one this news would have hit the hardest. I'd have to call him, see how he was doing. Maybe I could even invite him out to a meal or something, see if he was okay.
Bohdi's phone pinged. Then pinged again. The sound in double succession prompted him to stand and get it. He glanced at the screen, and refocused back on me.
He had no sooner put the phone face down when it pinged again, then rang.
He looked at me apologetically. “It's uh, it's my father.”
I nodded. His father too was a problem but it didn't make me feel some type of way that he had a father and I apparently didn't anymore. I didn't care, I hadn’t had a father for years before the old geezer finally officially kicked the bucket.
I hated that he would never have to see my final grades and eat his words.
“Good afternoon, Dad.”
And I was already doing so good too, I thought. The exam today had actually taken me a long time to finish because I had so many things I knew that I wanted to write down.
And boy, had I written. I'd used most of the pages I had been being given. I was very confident in myself
“What?” Bohdi exclaimed loudly , the word dripping in fear. “That's not true!”
I turned to him, thoughts of my shitty father pushed behind in the face of Bodhi talking to his slightly-less shitty father. But he was already looking at me.
My brows furrowed. What was going on that made him have that look on his face? Had someone from his side of the family also died today, from something genetically contagious?
I sighed, spent and sat on my bed as Bohdi listened to whatever was being said anxiously, both his hands wrapped around his phone. “No no, that's not even remotely true—”
What was going on?
“I understand, Father , yes.”
Bohdi put the phone down solemnly. Between the two of us, if a random bystander had to guess, I wouldn't look like the one who'd lost his father today. “What is it, baby?”
He jolted, looking at me like I had just tased him. Odd, indeed. Very odd.
I moved closer, putting my hand out. “Baby?”
He flinched away from my touch and my brows pulled down deeper in confusion. Bohdi had pulled away from me. Now, I was getting quite nervous too.
“Someone had to have seen us somehow,” Bohdi lamented, shoving his hand into his curly hair and tugging. “I don't know, how many times did—”
“Baby! What is it?”
That finally snapped Bodhi out of the daze he was in. But the panic was still fully present.
“Somehow,” he sighed tiredly, shaking his head. I could almost see the disbelief as he continued, “my father is convinced that I'm gay and sleeping with you.”
Oh fuck.
Panic flooded through my body at the implications of what that meant. But how? How had he even thought to think that? Where had he gotten such an idea?
“He also found out that I'm sharing a room with you.”
Oh hell no.
He knew Bohdi had me as a roommate? Then there was someone feeding him all these information, there had to be.
But who? Who had found Bohdi's Dad and texted him, for God's sake?
“He didn't even let me deny it, he wanted me to be back to the house by tomorrow.”
And how would his father make him kiss girls? Did he have to pass a test to prove that he wasn’t gay? What—
“And, um you see, he required that,” Bohdi continued, his lips trembling, “he… wants to see you too.”
