Desperate Sayge

Desperate Sayge
CHAPTER 179
ZYLIAH'S POV
"I can't believe Victoria." I shook my head ruefully, feeling a sense of pity for the man who had disowned me because of his other family.
Maybe he didn't deserve my pity. "No, he definitely didn't deserve my pity," I corrected, seeing as he also wanted to get my company from me after losing it through his carelessness.
If I was being honest, I knew Sayge was telling the truth when he told me my father was a bad man.
The company was never his—well, partly his, but never wholly his. He was supposed to be partners with Sayge's father but had let greediness take over him.
Well, he was getting whatever he deserved. Karma had come for him.
"She got what she deserved," Grandma Charlotte contributed. She was currently relaxing in her favorite massage chair. "She tried to steal from her husband but got scammed. Sometimes, Karma is a funny trickster."
My best friends and I agreed. "I cannot even believe that I went through all of what I went through just to get Jordan free. Look what he and his brother did; if you girls hadn't apprehended them the way you did, I'd have lost my documents too. Now I see why it's difficult for people to help anyone out these days. It's tough out there."
"Very tough." Grandma Charlotte yawned.
The woman was tired and obviously needed sleep. I shot a glance at my friends, and from their looks, I was sure they thought the same too.
"We'll be going to bed, Grandma Charlotte," I informed her, getting up from the sofa I was sharing with Delia.
"Good night, girls." She said drowsily, raising her body from the chair to retire into her bedroom.
Delia and Natalie would be spending the night here. They had made it known during dinner, and that had been fine with everyone... except Claire, though her input wasn't even important.
"Would you both like different rooms, or would you share mine with me?" I asked as we walked the quiet hallway.
"No need for different rooms. Yours is fine."
We climbed the stairs, chattering in low voices so as to avoid disturbing the household.
"Zyliah."
There was Sayge, standing in front of my door. Delia and Natalie paused their discussions as we all stared at him. What was he doing standing before my room at this time of night?
I approached, letting my expression reveal how much I didn't want to talk to him. I went straight for my door, but he blocked my path.
I raised my eyes to his, a cold feeling drowning whatever pain I still felt from our past relationship. "You're in my way."
"Please, let us talk." The desperation in his tone tugged heavily at my heart, but I refused to let it decide for me.
"There's nothing to talk about except the fact that I'll be leaving the house soon and taking my boys with me. Natalie and Delia are here, so they'll be handing over the documents to my properties, and I'll be getting a house. So yeah." I hadn't planned to tell him this way, but well, it was out, and now he knew.
The panic that swam into his eyes surprised me for a minute.
"Y-you're leaving?" His tone—it seemed like he was trying to sound angry, but I could hear a slight tremble.
"Of course. You didn't think this would be my forever home, did you? I had a life before you had our sons. I'm going back to that life, and I won't stop you from seeing your boys anytime you want to."
The next thing he did took not just me but my best friends as well by surprise—he lifted me onto his shoulder. Smoothly carrying me over his shoulder so that I could see my best friends as he walked off.
I wanted to scream, but that would wake the whole house, and I didn't want that.
"Let me down, Sayge." I pounded on his back, to no avail. "Natalie. Delia," I called my best friends for help.
But those friends only chuckled and went inside my room. I shouldn't have given Natalie my key card so soon; the prospect of them sleeping outside might have made them come to my rescue.
Since hitting him on the back had proven useless, I stayed limp and let him carry me to wherever he wanted.
We ended up in front of his door.
"What are you doing, Sayge?" It was Claire.
Her voice angered me. "Put me down."
Sayge ignored me, replying to her. "Fuck off!" Then he entered the room and locked us in.
He finally dropped me down.
Immediately, I headed for the door, but he pulled me back.
It became a struggle—me fighting to leave, him holding me back.
And he was winning; no surprise there. He didn't even move much, his grip easily holding me back.
It was no longer funny or cute; I was getting frustrated and tired. Coupled with tears that had surfaced for no reason, I raised my hand and slapped him across the face. "What do you want from me, Sayge?! You have a woman you have chosen, someone who is pregnant for you. Why don't you leave me the hell alone?"
Suddenly he pulled me into his arms, and I could hear the fast racing of his heart. I struggled yet again, but it was still hopeless.
I didn't want to smell him or be near him. I didn't want to see his face and let down my resolve.
"Please," he begged, his voice shaky with unspoken emotions. "Baby, please."
"No. No. No. I hate you, Sayge. I hate you. Just leave me alone! You don't want me...and I...I don't want you too!" The tears were running furiously down my face.
"No, don't say that." His chest heaved, his breaths coming out labored. He still wouldn't let go of me. "Don't say that, baby. Please, I want you. I...I want you every day and every time."
A huge part of me wanted to believe that, to believe the words coming out from his mouth, but then I remembered.
I was forced to remember how he was always quick to throw me under the bus and stick with Claire.
With all of my might, I shoved him so hard that I also staggered back a bit, but I was now free of him. I angrily swiped at a tear. "No, I do not believe you, Sayge. You are just a selfish person who wants to keep me around for whatever reason."
