Chapter 163
“Momma, can I hold one?” Calista leaped onto the bed, crawling up the bed until she was sitting at Alexis’s feet.
Morgan carefully sat down on the bed, peering over Lynn so that she could see the babies.
“Girls, your momma needs to get some rest. Why don’t we…”
Lynn touched Alexis’s hand, shaking her head. “It’s okay, babe. I might as well get used to losing sleep now that we have four children.” She forced herself to move, looking up at Morgan and Calista. “You can only hold them if you’re really careful. Now I want both of you to sit down on your bottoms.”
Morgan and Calista clamored to the edge of the bed, eagerly sitting down while glancing back expectantly towards Lynn. “When you put it that way,” she laughed. “I kind of doubt we’ll ever get sleep again.”
“Well, we might occasionally, if we hide out somewhere and let my father babysit.” Lynn laughed when she and Alexis shared another kiss. “Isn’t life perfect,” she said with a slow smile.
“Perfectly chaotic,” Alexis agreed.
“Momma,” Calista complained. “I thought you said we could hold the babies!”
“We’re in so much trouble when she’s a teenager.”
“Please do not even mention the teenage years!” Lynn cringed.
Within moments, the entire room was crowded with onlookers. Katie walked into the room holding Shania with Aimee by their side. William, Charlene, and Elise stepped inside soon after. Lynn giggled when everyone begin to fuss over the babies at once. This, she had a feeling, was only the beginning, and she could not wait to find out how it all would end.Epilogue
Lynn sighed as she collapsed onto the bed, yawning from the severe lack of sleep since the twins were born. Sheldon and Delaney seemed to be on different wavelengths when it came to their sleeping schedule. While one child peacefully slept, the other would be bawling for more to eat. Lynn wished their schedules would somehow synchronize. Still, she wouldn’t have traded anything for their precious new additions.
William often helped with the feedings to give Lynn and Alexis a breather. He loved the bonding time he shared with the twins. Katie even fussed over the twins anytime she came to visit. Katie and William were also slowly beginning to build somewhat of a relationship, though it would take time before she and her father would truly be close.
The police arrested a man they alleged to be Lynn’s stalker. Alexis wasn’t convinced. Something about the entire situation did not add up. From what the man told the police he was only following Lynn to get photos of her. Lynn didn’t think much of the story, but Alexis believed there was more to it than that. Even the man’s arrest seemed quite peculiar, to Alexis. When the babies were a couple weeks old, the man was caught peering inside their window with a camera, securing pictures. Lynn wanted to forget the entire situation while Alexis continued to remain suspicious over the outcome. Lynn supposed it was due to her wife’s cop training.
“You’re awake,” Alexis said as she stepped inside the bedroom.
“Barely,” Lynn muttered when she opened her eyes and smiled. “I just fed Delaney and thought I’d catch a quick nap before Sheldon decided it was his turn.”
“I’ll let you get some rest then.” Alexis stepped beside the bed, stroking Lynn’s forehead with her fingertips.
“No! Now that you’re home I’d rather cuddle with you than sleep.” Lynn tugged Alexis onto the bed with her and giggled. “So are you ready to stop obsessing over that man now that you’ve talked with the police?”
Alexis sighed when she propped herself up on one elbow, using her fingertips to trace circles over the center of Lynn’s stomach. Despite Lynn’s preoccupation with her daily workouts since the twin’s birth, she still carried around a good deal of her baby weight. “I’m not obsessing over it, Lynn. I have a bad feeling about this and…”
“Lex, they caught the guy. He had hundreds of photos of me at his apartment. Moreover, there were photos from the night I went to that bar. What more proof do you need?”
“Yes but…what was his motive?”
Lynn shrugged. “I don’t know. I guess he just wanted to sale pictures of me. The paparazzi do it all the time. I’ve gotten used to it over the years.”
“Maybe,” Alexis murmured, not sounding entirely convinced. She forced a hint of a smile. “You think I’m being paranoid, don’t you?”
Lynn laughed. “Honey, you’re always a little paranoid.” She brushed away a strand of gold in order to place a loving kiss on the bridge of Alexis’s nose. Her fingertip slipped to the top of Alexis’s shirt. “Now why don’t you stop worrying and provide your adoring wife with a little entertainment?”
“Entertainment,” Alexis arched her brow. “What did you have in mind?”
“Take off your clothes and I’ll show you.”
“And here I thought you were tired!” Alexis squealed when Lynn engulfed her in a tight embrace while suckling her earlobe.
“I am tired. I need a little loving to recharge my batteries.” Lynn moaned when Sheldon’s cry echoed down the hallway. “So much for a little loving,” she sighed.
“Do you want me to feed him?”
“Nah,” Lynn forced her body to move. “He likes me better than the bottle.”
Alexis grinned when she gazed at Lynn’s full breasts. “I can see why.”
Lynn rolled her eyes, tossing a pillow at her wife.
Life, for the moment, seemed perfect, but was it really? Only time would tell what the cards held for the ever-growing family…
