Nyxoria could feel warm breath against her skin, gentle at first, then slowly growing hotter. Within seconds, the warmth turned into searing heat, as if burning coals had been poured over her body. She clenched her fists, her nails digging into her palms, resisting the urge to open her eyes.

The pain was unbearable and she tried not to scream.

She wanted to open her eyes, to see what was happening to her, but Ora’s voice came, firm and unwavering.

"Don’t open your eyes, Nyxoria. Bear the pain. It will be over soon. If you open them now, everything will be wasted, and we’ll have to start all over again which you won't like."

"It hurts," Nyxoria whimpered, squeezing her eyes shut even tighter as tears streamed down her face.

Ora’s voice remained calm. "What is life without pain? For power, you must endure suffering. Haven’t you learned that by now, Nyxoria?"

The song continued, its melody distant, like an echo from another time. But Nyxoria could no longer focus on the words, her mind was consumed by the burning agony.

Then, just as suddenly as it had started, the pain vanished.

The sensation of claws ripping through her back was gone. The unbearable heat disappeared, leaving only a strange, lingering warmth in her bones.

"It’s going to be okay, Nyxoria," Ora murmured, pulling her into an embrace, gently stroking her hair. "You survived it. You’re brave."

Nyxoria took a shaky breath as she rested against Ora’s chest. "Is it…over?"

"Yes," Ora reassured her. "You can open your eyes now."

Hesitantly, Nyxoria did as she was told. As soon as she blinked her eyes open, Ora wiped away the tears from her cheeks.

"Thank you, Ora," Nyxoria whispered.

Ora stood and stretched out a hand to her. Nyxoria grasped it, pulling herself up, still trying to make sense of what had happened.

"You’re welcome," Ora said. There was something mysterious in her tone, something unspoken. "After all, what is meant to be… will always be."

Nyxoria frowned slightly, confused by the words, but she smiled nonetheless. Rolling her shoulders, she expected to feel the sting of wounds on her back, but, nothing.

No pain. No scars. No Blood. No torn clothing.

Her fingers traced her back, expecting to find shredded fabric or dried blood, but everything was intact.

"I—I felt claws digging into me," she said, looking at Ora for answers. "Was it just in my mind?"

"No," Ora shook her head. "It was real. It was brutal. That’s why I told you to keep your eyes closed, seeing the process would have made you sick."

Nyxoria’s heart pounded. "So… did it work? I mean, whatever we just did… did it actually work?"

Ora gave a knowing smile and lifted a hand, pointing behind Nyxoria.

"See for yourself."

Nyxoria turned, to see what Ora was asking her to see—and gasped.

The massive skeletal dead wolf-dragon that had once been pinned to the crumbling wall was gone.

It had completely vanished.

"Am I seeing double?" Nyxoria murmured, still staring at the empty space where the skeletal wolf-dragon had once been. "I thought there was one big..." She trailed off, knowing Ora already understood what she was trying to say.

"It’s inside you now, Nyxoria," Ora said simply.

Nyxoria blinked. "What?" she asked, disbelief evident in her voice. "But, it was dead."

Ora nodded. "I told you its spirit would merge with yours. That’s exactly what happened. The moment it fused with your soul, its physical body disappeared. I only sang a little song, and you were strong enough to endure the pain. Now, it is one with you."

Nyxoria placed a hand on her chest, feeling her heartbeat, steady, strong, yet somehow… different. She could sense something, a presence inside her that hadn’t been there before.

"Thank you, Ora," she whispered, staring at the veiled woman. "I trust you. I know you won’t betray me."

"I won’t," Ora assured her, her voice gentle but firm. "That’s why I’m helping you. You will need more strength to help you when the time comes."

Nyxoria’s expression darkened. "Did you know my uncle betrayed me?" she asked, her hands curling into fists. "And Mary, the same Mary you asked me to forgive, knew all along and chose to hide it from me. How do you expect me to forgive someone like that?" She exhaled sharply, trying to keep her emotions in check. "Do you want to know who is the most cruel among them? It’s Mary."

Ora let out a quiet sigh. "I understand how you feel. And you don’t have to forgive her right away. I only meant that she deserves a second chance. She was forced into it, Nyxoria. It wasn’t her fault, she was afraid. Don’t you know that fear of the unknown is what gives your enemies power?"

Nyxoria was silent for a moment, processing Ora’s words. Finally, she shook her head. "I don’t see myself forgiving her, yet" she admitted. "She hurt me. She fed me those things for years. I was just a child. Why would she do that to me?"

Ora’s voice was soft but steady. "You can ask her yourself. She wasn’t the mastermind, she was just a pawn in a bigger game."

Nyxoria clenched her jaw. "I won’t decide anything until I regain my memories. Then, I will know what to do with her."

Ora nodded. "I understand, Nyxoria. Whatever you decide, I will stand by you."

Nyxoria smiled, but curiosity burned in her eyes. "What about the song? Why did you mention Tharros’ name?"

Ora tilted her head slightly. "You were listening?" There was genuine surprise in her voice. Even though her face was hidden behind the veil, Nyxoria could hear it.

"Of course, I heard it," Nyxoria said with a small laugh. "Your voice was literally right next to my ear. I caught the first part of the song clearly before the pain came."

Ora shrugged. "I can’t answer that, Nyxoria. But don’t worry, with time, you’ll understand."

Nyxoria narrowed her eyes. "So… does that mean Tharros is the King of Death?"

Ora let out a light, almost amused laugh. "I can’t say for sure," she replied. "But I can tell you this, he is whoever you think he is."

Nyxoria sighed, knowing that was the only answer she was going to get for now.

"When you visit Vyr tomorrow, be careful," Ora warned, her tone turning serious. "That includes the priestess as well."

Nyxoria frowned slightly. "What do you mean? Do you think something will happen?"

Ora didn’t answer directly. Instead, she continued, "The next time we meet, I will teach you how to communicate with your dragon. Once you master that, you’ll be able to summon your wolf spirit into your body and merge with it. Afterwards, I will teach you how to use it to control other wolves including dragons."
