"Let's go," Nyxoria said, her voice firm.

Without another word, they left the courtyard and entered the castle, following Vyrelen as he led the way to Mary’s room.

When they reached the door, Vyrelen pushed it open and stepped inside first, followed by Tharros, Nyxoria, and Dika and he closed the door.

Mary was seen fast asleep on her bed, her chest rising and falling peacefully.

Tharros’ gaze darkened. "You can wake her up," he ordered.

Vyrelen nodded and stepped closer, standing over Mary. He placed his palm over her face, dragging it down slowly before pulling his hand away.

Almost instantly, Mary stirred. She coughed lightly before blinking her eyes open, only to freeze in place.

She gasped, her face paling as she realized eight pairs of eyes were watching her in silence.

"Why is everyone here?" she asked, quickly sitting up. There was concern in her voice as she threw her blanket on her aside and rushed over to meet Nyxoria. She took Nyxoria’s hands in hers, her grip tight. "Did something happen? Are you alright?"

Before Nyxoria could respond, Tharros’ voice cut through the room like a blade.

"Is that how you greet my bride?" He gritted out.

A deep, rumbling force filled the air.

Mary barely had time to react before something yanked her to her knees. She gasped as the ground beneath her cracked open, sharp lines forming beneath her trembling legs.

Her heart pounded in fear.

She didn’t need to be told, she had just offended the Emperor.

"I am so sorry, my Emperor," Mary tried not to stammer, fear thick in her voice as she lowered her head to the ground in submission and faces Nyxoria. "I am sorry, my Empress," she added, her forehead touching the cold floor.

Nyxoria stepped forward, her expression unreadable. "Let me handle this, Tharros."

Tharros, who was itching to tear Mary apart, clenched his jaw but nodded. "Fine. But if she lies, she’s mine." He told her.

Nyxoria turned back to Mary, who was still kneeling. "Mary, I’m giving you a chance to tell the truth. That’s the only reason I asked Tharros to let me deal with you first. If you lie or refuse to speak the truth, he will handle you in his own way." She stated.

Mary swallowed hard, her hands trembling. "What did I do, my Empress?" She asked hoping they hadn't discovered the leaf.

"Look at me," Nyxoria ordered.

Mary hesitated but lifted her gaze, meeting Nyxoria’s piercing stare.

Nyxoria gestured towards Vyrelen. "He found something in your belongings. I need you to tell me what it is and why you have it."

Tharros stepped forward, holding up the middle size pink pouch. He pulled out one of the dried leaves inside and let it dangle between his fingers.

Mary’s eyes widened in shock, her entire body beginning to shake.

"I-I don't know what that is," she stammered.

Tharros scoffed, his patience wearing thin. "You don’t know?" He tilted his head mockingly. "Fine. I’ll tell you." His voice dropped, dangerously low. "This is whisperleaf. You do know what whisperleaf is, don’t you? Answer me!"

Mary shook her head frantically. "I don't know, my Emperor."

Tharros chuckled darkly. "I don't care if you know or not. What I do care about to know is who told you to put it in my bride’s food."

Mary's lips parted slightly, but no words came out.

"And before you answer," Tharros continued, his voice like a blade against her skin, "think very carefully. I am not like my bride that you would lie to her face. If you lie to me, you will regret it."

"My life will be in danger if I say it," Mary murmured, but her voice was loud enough for everyone to hear.

Nyxoria stepped closer, her heart hammering in her chest. "Mary, if you truly had no choice, you should have told me. I trusted you so much. Why would you—"

"I am sorry, Nyxoria," Mary cut in, her voice barely above a whisper. "I had no other option… I was forced to do this to you, to betray you. If you can forgive me in your heart one day, I will be happy."

Before anyone could react, Mary suddenly began choking. Blood spilled from her lips, staining her dress as her body convulsed violently. Within moments, she collapsed to the ground, completely still.

Dika clenched her fists, her anger evident. "She killed herself instead of revealing who sent her, she is the most selfish person I have ever seen."

Nyxoria stared at Mary’s lifeless body in shock. Her mind raced. She could have told me and then I would forgive her like Ora told me to. She thought to herself. She could have explained instead of resorting to this.

But Tharros had no time for exchanging any words. He dropped to one knee beside Mary's still body, his palm hovering over her chest. In one swift motion, his shadows wrapped around his hand, and he struck her chest very hard.

Mary coughed violently, more blood spilling from her lips as she gasped, her wide, terrified eyes locking onto Tharros.

"Surprised?" Tharros mocked, his voice filled with dark amusement. "You should have tried dying when I wasn’t around. Too bad for you, I stopped the poison from reaching your stinking heart."

"I was supposed to be dead," Mary whispered, her disbelief written all over her face.

Tharros smirked coldly. "And yet, here you are. Now, tell me, who sent you? And don’t even think about lying to me," he warned.

To prove his point, he grabbed her arm and, with a quick jerk, snapped the bone.

Mary’s scream echoed through the room.

Tharros grinned in satisfaction.

"If you don't speak I will start breaking your bones one by one, at a very slow pace," he said, his voice dripping with cruel amusement. "Now talk Mary, I broke this arm very fast so imagine when I break all your bones slowly."
