Chapter 531 Absurd

Chapter 531 Absurd

Kenna frowned, thinking, 'Where does Ambrose go? Does he leave this early?'

She struggled to get out of bed, pulling back the covers.

She was completely naked, and her face flushed a bit more.

She remembered how they had slept together, embracing each other all night.

Kenna tried to calm herself, picking up a shirt from the floor—it was Ambrose's.

The shirt was large, reaching down to her mid-thigh, making it look like a dress.

She walked across the floor and opened the bedroom door.

Ambrose was nowhere to be found.

The large room felt empty and a bit cold, leaving Kenna feeling somewhat disappointed.

She thought that after last night, there would be at least a bit of tenderness today.

But waking up to find Ambrose gone was not what she expected.

Kenna took a deep breath to steady her emotions.

She turned back to the bedroom to find her phone and call Ambrose.

Then she noticed a glass of cold water and a pill on the nightstand.

Under the pill was a note.

The note read: [Emergency contraceptive.]

Kenna stared at the pill and the glass of water.

She finally understood what it felt like to have a blazing fire extinguished by a bucket of cold water.

Her heart ached; Ambrose's message was clear.

Last night was just a moment of impulse between adults.

He wouldn't take responsibility, nor would he linger.

Kenna picked up the pill and laughed, a sad laugh.

Kenna arrived at the Valois Mansion around noon.

Her phone was dead, so she had no idea how many times Brooks had called her.

When she walked into the hall, she saw Brooks's cold, angry face staring at her.

He was clearly very upset.

Leopold and Aurelia, on the other hand, looked concerned. "Kenna, where were you last night? Why was your phone off? We called Allegra, and she said you left with Ambrose. But when we called Ambrose, he said you weren't with him. Where did you go? Are you okay?"

Kenna looked at them, shook her head lightly, and said, "I'm fine. I got drunk last night and stayed at Ambrose's place."

As soon as she said that, Brooks couldn't hold back anymore. "Kenna, what did you promise me? You actually spent the night at Ambrose's place!"

"What did I promise you?" Kenna retorted.

Brooks was furious but suddenly found himself at a loss for words.

Moral coercion was something even he couldn't justify.

"I'm still legally married to Ambrose," Kenna said clearly to Brooks. "Whatever I do with Ambrose is legal."

"But you..."

"Let's talk after the divorce," Kenna said calmly. "I'm tired and need to rest."

Ignoring Brooks's anger, Kenna went upstairs.

She was truly exhausted, both physically and mentally. Kenna returned to her room and stared at the ceiling.

A tear rolled down her cheek.

She turned over, pulled the covers over herself, and tried to fall asleep.

Maybe if she slept, she wouldn't feel the heartache.

When Kenna woke up, it was already evening.

She struggled to get up.

"Awake?" Brooks's voice suddenly came from the room.

Kenna was startled.

She turned to look at Brooks, wondering when he had entered her room.

"How did you get in?" Kenna asked, remembering she had locked the door with the deadbolt.

"Does it matter?" Brooks replied dismissively.

"Of course, it matters!" Kenna insisted.

"It doesn't," Brooks said firmly. "What matters is that you promised to build a relationship with me, yet you're still tangled up with Ambrose."

"My relationship with Ambrose is legitimate," Kenna shot back.

"I'll forgive you this time," Brooks said, cutting her off. "But don't let it happen again."

Kenna just stared at him coldly.

"Get up and have dinner," Brooks said as he wheeled himself out. "I'll be waiting downstairs."

Kenna watched Brooks's back, feeling a mix of frustration and oppression.

Five days later, Kenna went to the courthouse. Brooks naturally followed, and unlike last time, he got out of the car and accompanied her to get the divorce decree from Ambrose.

Since that night, this was the first time Kenna and Ambrose had met. Kenna had been waiting for a message from Ambrose. Finally, she received it.

Ambrose: [See you at the courthouse at 9 AM tomorrow.]

Getting the divorce decree went smoothly. When they left, each held a copy of the decree. Brooks walked up to Kenna with his cane.

"Is it done?" He asked.

Kenna nodded. "Yes," She said, handing the decree to Brooks.

Brooks eagerly opened it. Seeing the contents, a smile appeared on his lips. He had come with Kenna today to prevent any unexpected events. He hadn't expected everything to go so smoothly. Ambrose and Kenna hadn't spoken a word since they met, and the process was quick and without hesitation.

Did they really have no feelings for each other, breaking up so quickly? Or had something happened between them? For Brooks, it didn't matter as long as they were divorced. After the divorce, he and Kenna could be together openly. And he was confident that once Kenna and Ambrose were no longer connected, Kenna would come back to him.

Leaving the courthouse, Brooks called out to Ambrose, "Why haven't you come home for dinner lately? Mom and Dad called you, but you didn't come back. Are you very busy?"

"Yes," Ambrose replied curtly.

"Even if you're busy, you shouldn't neglect family. You need to balance work and life," Brooks lectured.

Ambrose didn't respond. Brooks seemed to forget that when he worked in Stonebridge, he rarely came home. His parents were even afraid to call him, worried about disturbing his work. To him, everyone else's work could be flexible and leisurely, except his. His work was the most important.

"Find some time to come home. I'll have the housekeeper prepare your favorite dishes," Brooks continued.

"I'm going abroad for a while," Ambrose interrupted.

Brooks was stunned. "What?"

"Didn't Dad tell you?" Ambrose asked.

"What do you mean?" Brooks was genuinely confused. Kenna also looked at Ambrose.

"The Valois Group's electric cars are doing well in the domestic market. Our partner Craig wants us to expand overseas and open a Valois Group electric car division in Avalonia. I've already told Dad I'm going," Ambrose explained casually.

Brooks was truly shocked. He hadn't expected Ambrose to go abroad. He glanced at Kenna. He thought Kenna knew, but she didn't.
