Kerena's heart skipped a beat.

She bit her lip hard.

Yeah, it was her doing.

To be precise, she had her mom do it.

She was absolutely furious when she got back.

She kept texting her mom, saying that Allegra not only stole twenty years of her life but was now getting involved with Nico, clearly trying to oppose her and make her life miserable!

Elisa already felt deeply indebted to Kerena, and Allegra was a symbol of her shame. Kerena's words made Elisa explode. She had been holding back for Lucius's sake, but now she couldn't take it anymore.

Within ten minutes, the news about Lucius and Allegra broke out.

As the situation escalated, Kerena started to feel scared.

She didn't know why she feared Lucius, but ever since joining the York family, she felt intimidated by him.

Maybe it was because Lucius had made her famous, or maybe she was acutely aware of his power. She had a deep respect and admiration for him, which made her cautious around him.

"What did you say?" Nico asked Lucius, incredulous.

He knew Kerena had some jealousy issues.

But he thought it was understandable since she joined the York family later and didn't grow up in high society, which could make her feel insecure.

He never believed Kerena would do something so petty.

"Check the news yourself," Lucius said, ignoring Nico and addressing Kerena. "I don't know if I can ever forgive you and your mother, but this has crossed my line. You better watch yourselves."

Lucius turned and left.

He wasn't there to throw a tantrum; he was just in a bad mood, which showed on his face.

He wasn't asking them to retract the news; he didn't need their help at all.

He seemed to be telling them that their relationship was over. Kerena felt panicked.

After Lucius left, she quickly called Elisa, almost in tears. "Mom, Lucius just said he might never forgive us!"

"Who cares if he forgives us!" Elisa, who grew up in the York family, was proud and couldn't be as timid as Kerena. "He disregarded our family ties first. I don't need to keep compromising myself."

"But I'm relying on Lucius in the entertainment industry. I'm worried."

"You don't need to be in the entertainment industry. We have enough money to support you for life."

"Mom, acting is my passion. I really love it."

"We'll talk about it later. Lucius can't control everything. Don't be afraid. I'll always have your back. I won't let Allegra bully you. And don't impulsively break up with Nico. He's a good man. Trust me."

"But he likes someone else."

"Feelings can grow. Once you marry Nico, things will be fine. Besides, with Lucius and Allegra entangled, Nico won't be with Allegra. Don't overthink it."

"Okay."

"You were just bitten by a dog. Take care of yourself. We'll deal with this later."

"Okay."

After talking to Elisa, Kerena calmed down a bit.

As she regained her composure, she felt a cold gaze.

She turned to see Nico, noticing his face was icy cold.

"Why did you do this?" Nico asked Kerena, emphasizing each word. "Kerena, why drag others into our issues? Allegra did nothing wrong to you. Why would you do this to her?"

"She did nothing wrong? She stole twenty years of my life and made my fiancé obsessed with her! She's the one who wronged me the most!" Kerena shouted.

"She stole twenty years of your life? Have you ever thought that you also stole twenty years of her life? Why doesn't she resent you?" Nico was furious.

"Resent me? She lived in the York family with everything she wanted—the best education, the best life. What did I go through in those twenty years? What right does she have to resent me?"

"Why shouldn't she resent you? She was born into wealth and privilege. If it weren't for you, she would still be the York family's heiress, living carefree. But because of you, she lost everything overnight—her wealth, her family. She became destitute! Ask yourself, wouldn't you resent someone if you were in her shoes?" Nico argued, disregarding any decorum.

"Nico, you're still my fiancée!" Kerena was on the verge of collapse. "Why are you saying this to me? I'm the one who suffered. Why are you siding with Allegra?"

"From my perspective, you haven't suffered at all. Instead, you're being unreasonable." Nico couldn't pretend anymore. Kerena's actions today made it hard for him to forgive her.

"Unreasonable? Nico, have you ever thought that if Allegra hadn't taken over my life, she wouldn't even exist in your world, and you wouldn't have fallen for her? We wouldn't be fighting because of her!" Kerena kept defending herself.

"No." Nico said coldly, "Without Allegra, I wouldn't be with you."

Kerena looked at him in disbelief. "What do you mean?"

"The only reason I agreed to be with you was to protect Allegra, to prevent her from feeling guilty! I'm with you for Allegra!" Nico laid it all out.

Kerena stared at him, suddenly feeling like she didn't know Nico at all.

"Kerena, I might have wronged you, but Allegra hasn't! You can take it out on me, hate me, but you shouldn't take it out on Allegra." Nico spoke coldly, "Let's break up."

"Nico! We're about to get married, and now, over this small issue, you want to break up!" Kerena couldn't accept it. She couldn't accept that just because she targeted Allegra out of jealousy, everyone was against her. Lucius, and now Nico. Why couldn't she fight back? Why couldn't she retaliate when Allegra threatened her position?

"Anything involving Allegra is not a small issue." Nico snapped.

"Nico, you're a terrible man!" Kerena screamed, "If you didn't love me, why did you play with my feelings? Why did you stay with me?"

"Yes, take it out on me. I can handle it." Nico said each word clearly, "But if you go after Allegra, I will..."

"What will you do?" Kerena was so emotional that she couldn't control herself.

"I will retaliate in the same way."
