Chapter 516 Give Everything
Chapter 516 Give Everything
Did Lucius know how tough Allegra had had it these past few years as a single mom?
"So, I tried calling you," Lucius said.
"What?" Allegra replied, confused.
"Your number was disconnected," Lucius explained.
Allegra suddenly remembered that she had canceled her old phone number after leaving Phoenix City. She had bought a new SIM card, not wanting anyone to disturb her. Maybe she was just angry at the time.
"But with your resources, you couldn't find me?" Allegra was even more upset. Did he just give up because she changed her number?
How was she supposed to believe he loved her?
"Didn't changing your number mean you didn't want anything to do with me?" Lucius asked.
Allegra was momentarily speechless. Of course, that was what she had intended. But women could be complicated. She had her pride. She had been used and discarded by Lucius. Wasn't she entitled to be a little angry?
"Plus, given my health at the time, I decided to let go," Lucius said softly.
He could still recall the moment he truly let go of Allegra, feeling as if his heart was being torn apart.
"Lucius, am I that easy to give up on?" Allegra asked, clearly annoyed.
"Not at all," Lucius quickly replied.
"Not at all, yet you gave up on me time and time again."
"So, what are we now?" Lucius countered.
Allegra frowned, slowly realizing that Lucius meant that if he had truly given up on her, they wouldn't be married now, they wouldn't be together. She felt oddly comforted.
"Alright, me too," Allegra suddenly said.
"What?" Lucius was taken aback.
"I never gave up on you either. Despite the repeated disappointments and despair, as long as you made the first move, I would..." Allegra didn't want to finish. She had her dignity, but she couldn't lie. No matter how much Lucius hurt her, as long as he reached out, she would break down.
"As for Nico," Allegra shifted the topic back.
Lucius felt repeatedly stabbed by Allegra. Nico was like a thorn.
"I think I liked Nico, liked him enough to imagine a future with him," Allegra said, looking at Lucius.
She saw the clear displeasure on his face, though he tried to hide it. She suddenly felt a bit satisfied. She had never had the power to make Lucius jealous before. But she had spent so many years with him, and if she were to count, she would have died of jealousy.
Now, she could finally let Lucius taste that feeling.
"But it seems..." Allegra smiled faintly, "It's not love."
Lucius looked at Allegra, her smile tinged with guilt. Because it wasn't true love between a couple, she always felt she owed Nico. Even though their breakup was forced by Nico's mother, she couldn't fully reciprocate Nico's kindness. Their relationship was unfair from the start.
"So, my life, from beginning to end, has truly only loved one person. But that person was too unattainable, so I kept convincing myself that I could live well without him, that I could find my true love without him," Allegra said, her eyes fixed on Lucius.
Lucius responded in kind. He had been satisfied knowing Allegra had only been with him. Now he realized that emotional exclusivity was far more important than physical purity. He couldn't even describe his feelings now. He felt like thanking Godfor his protection. He had survived a near-fatal car accident, but he had never felt this grateful, never felt the world was this warm.
Lucius held Allegra's hand tightly. He would never let go, even if he died with her.
Allegra smiled silently, watching Lucius hold her hand. His trembling hand was warm and moist; she could feel his excitement. She thought this was enough. The past was the past. Maybe she hadn't been perfect enough back then to make Lucius love her unreservedly. But now she could feel Lucius cherishing her. Cherishing her deeply, and that was enough.
"Me too," Lucius said seriously, looking at Allegra. "In my life, I've only loved one person."
The deep affection in his eyes was unmistakable.
"So, you've never loved anyone before?" Allegra wasn't entirely disbelieving of Lucius. She believed he loved her, but he loved her now. Did he really have no desires before? Did he only now understand love at his age?
"Before and now, the person I love is..." Lucius's phone suddenly rang. Allegra frowned. Who was so tactless as to interrupt them now? She thought if this continued, tonight would be inevitable for a passionate encounter. Allegra was a bit annoyed.
Lucius hesitated but answered the call. It was the producer from the show. In this industry, some social niceties had to be observed. He answered politely, "Hello."
"Mr. Orsini, are you at the hospital now?"
"Yes."
"How is Allegra?" The producer expressed concern and apologized, "I'm really sorry about the accident. I wanted to visit Allegra personally, but work commitments kept me from doing so."
"Allegra is fine, thank you for your concern. If she has no issues tonight, she'll return to Phoenix City tomorrow," Lucius said graciously.
No one had expected the accident, and the show had already made the best arrangements and offered sincere apologies and compensation.
"Um..." Rachel hesitated.
She clearly had something to say. Lucius, having been in the industry for years, understood.
"Do you have something specific to discuss?" Lucius asked.
"I didn't want to bring this up now, worried about Allegra's injury, but the public opinion might have a significant impact, so I wanted to confirm with you," Rachel said, holding back.
Lucius's expression turned serious. Rachel wouldn't bring up trivial matters at this time. To reach this level, one had to be smart and know what was important. So, it must be something major.
Allegra looked at Lucius, surprised. When Lucius was serious, it meant something bad had happened.
"You and Allegra were just exposed by the media, saying you recently got married and that your child is illegitimate."
Lucius's face darkened. He put the phone on speaker, exited the call screen, and opened the news app. A headline popped up: #Shocking! Lucius and Allegra are not Secretly Married; Their Child Is Illegitimate.#
