EB Chapter 64 Part 6

EB Chapter 64 Part 6
Eva

Next, Vlad. He was probably brooding somewhere, or admiring his reflection. I found him in his private study, a room steeped in shadows and the scent of aged parchment and something metallic, like blood. He sat behind an imposing desk, a quill in his hand, his long black hair cascading around his striking features. His blue eyes, usually filled with an arrogant disdain for the world, held a rare concentration.

"My, my," I drawled, leaning against the doorframe. "Hard at work, Vlad? Conquering new territories? Penning a new manifesto on your inherent superiority?"

He looked up, his gaze sweeping over me, a familiar possessive gleam entering his eyes. "Always working, Eva. Unlike some who prefer to lounge about, plotting mischief."

"Mischief? I'm simply trying to understand the machinations of my mates," I said, strolling into the room. "You, in particular, seem to be at the heart of whatever grand scheme you're all hatching. Brandon mentioned your 'magnificent new rose garden'. Sam spoke of your 'flair for the dramatic' and how you see this as an 'opportunity to make a statement'."

He put down his quill, a faint smirk touching his lips. "They speak highly of me, then. As they should."

"Oh, they do," I agreed, circling the desk. "But they don't speak clearly. What kind of 'statement' are you planning, Vlad? A personal one? A global one? A declaration of war on all who dare to question your unparalleled brilliance?"

He leaned back in his chair, his eyes fixed on me, a predatory glint within their depths. "Every statement I make is inherently global, Eva. And undoubtedly brilliant. This one, in particular, will solidify our position. All of our positions. For eternity."

"Eternity is a long time," I mused, stopping directly in front of his desk. "And 'our position'… What is our position, Vlad? Above all others? At the apex of power? The new rulers of… everything?"

"Naturally," he stated, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. "We are gods. Our children will be gods. This event, this… gathering, will merely serve as a formal acknowledgment of that fact. A grand unveiling, if you will, to the wider world. And a clear message to any who might harbor delusions of challenging us."

"A grand unveiling," I repeated, a thrill shooting through me. Bael's 'presentation', Sam's 'display', and now Vlad's 'grand unveiling'. It was all coming together. "So it's not just a celebration, it's a show of force. A declaration of dominance."

His smile widened, a flash of his fangs. "Precisely. We are not merely hosting a party, Eva. We are asserting our divine right. Establishing our reign."

"Our reign?" I leaned forward, my hands resting on the edge of his desk. My voice dropped to a conspiratorial whisper. "Who are we reigning over, Vlad? The humans? The supernatural factions? The other gods who might object to our sudden rise to power?"

"Anyone and everyone who needs to understand the new hierarchy," he replied, his gaze intense, possessive. "Especially those who have, for too long, considered themselves superior. The old princes. Their time is over. Ours has just begun."

"The old princes," I said, a shiver running through me. This was far more political than I'd imagined. "So this 'baby shower' is actually a power play. A strategic move on the global supernatural chessboard."

"You are surprisingly perceptive," he murmured, reaching out to trace the line of my jaw. His touch was cold, yet it sparked a familiar fire within me. "And incredibly beautiful when you're attempting to uncover my secrets."

"How am I doing?" I whispered, my eyes locked with his.

"Oh, very well, my delectable queen," he purred, his thumb stroking my lips. "You make me want to tell you everything. To lay the world at your feet and show you exactly how we will conquer it. But the suspense, my dear, is half the pleasure." He pulled me closer, his eyes burning with desire. "However, I could be persuaded to reveal more. For the right… incentive."

"Incentive?" I arched an eyebrow. "What kind of incentive do you have in mind, Your Majesty? A humble plea? A lavish gift? Or perhaps… something more intimate?"

His lips curved into a slow, sensual smile. "Something intimate, indeed. Something that reminds me of your… profound appreciation for my genius. Something that makes me forget that I am supposed to be maintaining an air of mystery." He tugged me closer still, his breath ghosting over my lips. "Do you understand?"

I understood perfectly. "I think I have a good idea," I said, my voice husky. "You've been very… enlightening, Vlad. More than you intended, perhaps." I pulled back, though the lingering heat of his touch still clung to my skin. "Thank you for the… clarity. And the vision. I'll leave you to your conquest plans."

I walked out, a small smile playing on my lips. Vlad, arrogant and transparent in his ambition, had given me the clearest picture yet. A power play. Assertion of divine right. Establishing their reign. This was going to be epic.
