Chapter 55 Part 3
Eva
Brandon is beside me, his presence a steady anchor in the chaos. He fights with a precision that’s both beautiful and deadly, his movements a dance of violence. His sword flashes in the moonlight, each strike calculated, each parry flawless. But even he’s struggling, his energy flagging as Raven’s power bears down on him. His breath comes in ragged gasps, and his face is slick with sweat, but he doesn’t falter.
I reach out to him, my thoughts brushing against his. Hold on, I send my voice a whisper in the darkness. ‘We are almost there.’
His response is immediate, his energy warming in response. ‘Always,’ he sends back, his voice a steady anchor in the chaos.
The battle reaches its climax, the night erupting into a maelstrom of light and darkness. Raven’s power is immense, but we’re stronger together. “Morgan, now!” I yell. Agnes and Morgan drop their glamour and unleash their spells.
Raven staggers. “No, no! This is an illusion.”
Morgan laughs a purry laugh. “Bitch, I was here when Eva blew up your precious empousa. Now, I will be here to watch you die.” Morgan and Agnes sent a blast of energy towards my mates and me. It was a part of their souls.
Our energies intertwine, our powers combining in a surge of light that engulfs the night. The air is filled with the scent of ozone and the sound of cracking energy, a symphony of destruction.
Raven screams, her body convulsing as the light bears down on her. Her power falters, her magic waning as the light consumes her. She falls to her knees, her eyes wide with shock, her body trembling with the effort of holding on. Her once-confident smirk is gone, replaced by a look of sheer terror.
I step forward, my presence a silent warning. “It’s over, Raven,” I say, my voice steady, though my heart is pounding. “Surrender, or face the consequences.”
Raven’s eyes meet mine, her expression a mix of hatred and fear. “You’ll pay for this,” she says, her voice low, ragged. “You’ll all pay.”
I don’t respond, my silence a silent acknowledgment of the truth. We’ve won this battle, but the war is far from over. Raven’s threat hangs in the air, a dark cloud that looms over us. My mind races with thoughts of what comes next, of the battles yet to be fought and the sacrifices yet to be made. I look at her. “I have already paid. We have already paid. Innocents have already paid. You were allowed to live before; you had a chance to change, unlike all those who have lost their lives. You used your gift for the wrong reason. Power is earned, not taken. We are eternally bound, but you…you’re not.”
I looked around as Levi brought up his group and the Falls. Gran smiled. “Dearie, this one wants to drain your lake.”
I look at Levi. “No. But if you're thirsty, I do have a soul for you.”
That's when Raven looks away from me to Levi as he shifts his appearance. “No! No! Astaroth said…she promised.”
Bael and I stand beside Levi. We all bend down to look Raven in the eyes. “Astaroth made a lot of promises. She never delivers. I will find the White Wolf, and when I do, my mate will set him free.”
Levi smirks. “You should have left Astaroth imprisoned. You disrupted the balance. Now it must be restored. Starting with you.”
We all crowded around Levi to lend him some of our power. Yes, he is a world-eater and likely doesn't need our power boost, but I am taking no chances. No souls will be left this time. The wind swirled, lightning flashed, and thunder clapped as the ground shook. Shadows danced around us. Levi’s mouth elongated and expanded until it resembled a small black hole. Raven tried to claw away to hide, but Levi sucked her into his vortex of darkness. Soon, Raven was no more, and Levi’s head returned to normal. He spat on the ground. “I need a drink. Landfills leave a better aftertaste,” he joked.
Morgan pats Levi on the shoulder. “I could have told you that the bitch tasted terrible.” We laugh as we stand there, a circle of strength and vulnerability, bound by love and necessity. The night is quiet now, but I know the storm is far from over because we still have Astaroth to deal with. The moon watches over us, a silent guardian in the sky. And as I breathe in the cool night air, I know that no matter what happens, we’ll face it as one. Because in the end, love is our greatest weapon. And with it, we’re unstoppable.
