Chapter 58 What is He Going to Do
Quinn's parents' eyes went all red when they saw me.
"Quinn mentioned how kind you are and how you assisted her, instructing us to wait here for you," Quinn's mom said with trembling voice.
Hearing that, I got a bit freaked out. Quinn had seen me, but her parents had no clue who I was. I didn't remember ever meeting them.
Quinn's mom added, "Quinn is awake now. She's eager to see you and mentioned she has something important to share with you." Their expressions were notably solemn.
I was about to say no, but Eric cut in. "Get in the car."
So, the four of us headed to the hospital together, even though I wasn't thrilled about it.
In the car, I was bursting with a million questions for Eric, but with Quinn's parents seated in the back, I had to maintain my silence.
How did Quinn explain things to her parents? They recognized me right away, and I wondered if Quinn was doing any better.
I bit my lip, feeling all sorts of mixed up.
When we got to the ward, Quinn was lying there, looking pale as a ghost.
She looked really weak, but her spirits seemed okay.
When she saw me, Quinn smiled and looked at her parents. "Mom, Dad, can you guys step out? I need to talk to Emily."
They nodded and left the room.
Eric and I stayed. Before we knew it, Quinn got up and knelt on the floor.
Her sudden move freaked me out.
"No, don't do that," I said.
I quickly helped her back to bed and tucked her in.
Eric just stood there, looking like he didn't care.
Quinn's voice was all raspy and weak, but she kept thanking me. "Thank you. If it weren't for you, I might never have come back. You saved me. I've seen everything online. Some people doubt it, but most believe me. Thank you for giving me hope."
Eric glanced at her, his voice steady. "A lot of people go through what you did, but not everyone gets a second chance. When you get better, try to help those still stuck in the same situation."
Quinn looked at Eric, like she was inspired.
"Do you really think I can do it?" She put her hands on her chest, looking shocked.
Eric nodded. "Of course. Believe in yourself and trust my judgment."
His words were so motivating, even I felt inspired.
I softly interjected, "Trust us. When you're back on your feet, you can pay it forward to others. We simply wish for your well-being."
Quinn's eyes filled with tears, and she nodded.
I gave her a light hug and sighed.
As I let go, Quinn grabbed my arm and softly asked, "The online stuff has blown up. What about Zara? What happened to her?"
Zara was already dead. Did Quinn not know?
I told her everything I knew about Zara, and Quinn went silent.
Seeing her face turn grim, I didn't push it.
Just as we were about to leave, she pulled something from under her pillow and called out, "Wait, I have something for you."
I stopped, confused. "What is it?"
She pulled out a box wrapped in fancy silk and opened it to reveal a silver ring.
Quinn looked at me seriously. "A handsome guy asked me to give this to you. He said it belongs to you."
A guy gave me a ring? What was that about?
Before I could even think, Eric's eyes lit up, and he quickly grabbed the ring. He looked at the pattern on it, and something flickered in his eyes.
"Do you know this guy? Did he mention his name?" I inquired, wary of getting involved with unfamiliar individuals.
Quinn thought for a moment. "His name is Roy. He came to see me the night before last when I had just woken up. He asked me to give this to you, saying it originally belonged to you and that you should keep it safe."
She looked a bit guilty, realizing how sudden this all was.
I couldn't blame her. Eric had already seen the ring, so it should be fine. But why would that creep Roy give me a ring? Was he nuts?
Eric patted me, snapping me out of my thoughts. "Put it on."
The ring felt hot in my palm, and I almost dropped it.
But seeing Eric's serious face, I didn't dare.
I took the ring and examined it, asking, "What good could this possibly do for me? Why does he want me to wear it?"
Roy had tried to kill me more than once. If this was another trap, could I even survive?
Eric gave me a reassuring look.
In the end, I put on the ring.
He lifted my hand, gently rubbing the ring, his voice low. "The ring contains something you lost. By midnight, you'll be fully restored."
I looked at the ring, feeling uneasy.
Every time Roy showed up, it was either to kill me or mess with me.
Last time, he even tried to take me away from Eric, so he couldn't be a good guy.
Besides, the pendant showed no reaction. If it contained my lost soul, it should have reacted.
Sitting in the car, I still couldn't calm down.
I told Eric about it.
He took off my pendant and examined it closely. "Maybe it's malfunctioning."
I was surprised. "Broken? Can you fix it?"
Eric frowned. "Once it's fixed, you must never take it off again."
I quickly put the pendant back on without hesitation.
My soul had returned, and Willie would assist me with the mark. But what about the poison? Zara was deceased, and the type of poison remained unknown.
Jonathan's delayed toxin was also running out of time. Was I really about to die?
I pressed my lips together. "Eric, am I about to die?"
He closed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose, appearing utterly exhausted. "As long as I'm here, I won't let you die."
His fierce tone scared me into silence, and all I could say was, "Yes, thank you."
