Chapter 99 Chapter 99

Chapter 99 Chapter 99
Sitting up, Hadeon stared at her, bewildered. His startlement rapidly shifted to wrath. “That was a big mistake.”

Suki, still holding her brave smirk, stared at him for a second before speeding off, tapping into her wolf speed. She darted towards her two mates, dashing between them so fast that she shot them apart, sending them to the ground.

For a moment, the shock of their heads hitting the ground allowed their free will to take over, and their urge to kill each other dissipated, having the hands on the wheels of their minds once more. They sat up and looked at each other, shocked, then at her.

She panted, “You both have to stop fighting each other.”

“We can’t,” Brendan groaned. “That hit on the head has given us maybe a few minutes of freedom, but his hold is too tight. I can already feel him trying to take over again.”

“Then fight the desire to kill each other for just a little longer. I need some time.” She turned her head, seeing Hadeon stand and move towards her – slow, as if he knew he’d catch her easily. He knows this is temporary, she thought.

Pushing himself to his feet, Reynard cracked his neck and exhaled, “How long?”

She stepped closer to Rey, taking his hand in hers and squeezing it. “As long as you can give me.”

He nodded.

“The bond?” Brendan questioned, coming to a stand.

Suki looked at him and shook her head.

“How will we know when you’re done with your plan?”

She caught Hadeon speeding up in the corner of her eye. In a panic, she spoke quickly, “Trust me, you’ll know.”

Hadeon growled.

Feeling his claws in her mind, Suki knew that he was trying to get his grasp back on them all.

He succeeded in pushing Brendan and Reynard to fight one another, who squared up to each other ready to attack again.

“Go, Ki.”

“Now.”

Hadeon’s hold on Suki was frail. As he sped up faster towards her, he appeared where she once stood in a flash, but she was gone. He looked around. He had never seen how fast she was when she used her wolf speed. “That adrenaline won’t last forever, pet,” he called out.

And he was right. The more she tapped into her supernatural abilities, the less time she would have benefiting from the adrenaline. Once it wore off, she’d be lucky if she could stand.

It was a huge risk she was taking, but she was the only one who could do it. He couldn’t get in her mind – not fully.

Conserving her strength, she hastened down a hallway, back inside the warehouse, and searched for the room she needed. Passing room after room and still not finding the one she needed, she grew worried. She had at most 10 to 20 minutes before the adrenaline would wear off, and if she weren’t done with her plan by then, everyone would be doomed.

“Suki…” Hadeon’s voice emerged from a distance. His voice was hollow and dark.

Her head swung round, exploring her surroundings to ensure he wasn’t close. She couldn’t see him, but that didn’t mean he didn’t know where she was.

She kept moving and slipped into a room, scanning around; it was another lab, this one smaller, with a single hospital bed and a table of various tools beside it. How many damn labs did they need?

“I can hear the panic in the way you’re breathing…” he taunted.

She covered her mouth and shut her eyes, trying to steady her breath.

Calm. Focus. You can do this, Suki. Remember your training.

Focusing on the table with the tools, she moved closer to see exactly what they were. A variety of knives, blades, saws and other sharp tools. They didn’t look like they were used for medicinal practices. Her eyes slowly shifted to the ground, and she yelped, leaping backwards.

Blood. The floor was stained with blood.

This wasn’t another lab. It was a torture chamber.

“Sick bastards,” she whispered to herself.

Another chuckle emerged from the distance; it sounded both far away and closer at the same time. “I heard that. Scared, pet? You should be when I get you.”

Suki snarled, “Stop calling me ‘pet’. I don’t belong to you.”

“Oh, but you will,” he crooned. “I can smell your fear. You’re making it so much easier to track you down.”

Examining her surroundings, Suki grabbed a sheet from a hospital bed. Using a dagger from the table of tools, she shredded the sheet into small pieces. Then she stared at her palm, knowing what she had to do next would deplete her adrenaline rush that much more, but she had no choice.

She took the dagger and, without hesitation, carefully cut her palm – deep enough for blood to drip but not enough to cause long-term damage.

Hadeon’s hungry growl mixed with a laugh appeared, closer than ever. “Awh, did you injure yourself? You’re just making it easier for me.”

Balling her hand into a fist, Suki’s blood dripped all over the sheets. As her blood dripped, she grabbed a clean sheet and rubbed it all over her face and neck, capturing all her sweat. When it looked like enough, she took a long strip of the sheet she had cut and wrapped it around her palm and secured it in place with a knot, using her teeth to tighten the hold.

She took a few of the sheets with her and left the rest behind as she rushed through another set of doors into another room.

Weaving in and out of different rooms, dropping a single sheet soaked with her blood here and there until she ran out.

A rumbling roar came from afar. Hadeon’s frustrated discovery when he realised Suki fooled him with her own scent brought another smug grin to her mouth.

With the spare time she bought herself, at the cost of her already limited time, she ran as fast as she could until she finally found the room she needed.

The security room.
