Chapter 98 Chapter 98
Chapter 98 Chapter 98
“You’re not taking her,” Brendan growled at Reynard, throwing a punch right in his gut.
He groaned, curling into his stomach, then plunged forward, tackling Brendan. “I won’t let you take her. She’d never want to be with you, a murderer. A disgusting,” – he punched his jaw – “filthy,” – another punch – “vile,” – another – “Rogue.”
As Reynard moved to punch him again, Brendan caught his fist and twisted it. He shook his head, feeling rattled. He bared his teeth. “Your family ruined my life; I could’ve been the best of the best.” His eyes glowed.
Reynard retreated and stood when he saw the swirls and puffs of Brendan’s shadow magic emit from his shoulders. He rolled his eyes and huffed, “Pathetic, you can’t even fight with your fists. Are you so weak that you need to rely on your powers, Rogue?”
Growling, he pushed himself to his feet and banished the shadow magic he had summoned. “I can kill you easily with my bare fists.”
“Then prove it.”
Brendan sped towards him and pelted one punch after another – one in the jaw, then another in the chest.
Though they grew up separately, the two of them had trained their entire lives intensely to master their strength. Reynard was the best of those born in Moonstone, and Brendan was the best of those born in Nighttide. They were perfect equals in combat.
Each hit became firmer and firmer from both men. The two fought and retaliated constantly. Defence. Offence. Defence. Offence. Never-ending. If they grew tired, they would continue. They had no choice.
Until one or both of them were dead.
There was no way to free them from the lies Hadeon had poisoned their minds with. They needed something to sever the manipulation. They needed someone.
They needed Suki.
But she had her own issue to deal with…
Suki’s body trembled beneath Hadeon’s touch, her eyes drifted to behind him, and she watched as her mates struck each other repeatedly. They were shouting at each other, but she couldn’t hear them from this distance.
She slid her hand slowly into her pocket and wrapped her fingers around the syringe.
Hadeon gripped her face and made her look at him. “You should worry about yourself, pet. They aren’t going to save you. But when I’m done with you,” – he dragged his tongue against the teeth where his fangs were begging to break free and grinned, looking at her famished – “you won’t want to be saved.”
Carefully, with her thumb, Suki pushed the lid off the needle and quickly pulled it out of her pocket, drawing her hand and pushing with great force to stab and inject.
But she wasn’t fast enough – Hadeon grabbed her wrist and pinned her arm above her head.
She wailed in pain, dropping the needle. She watched Hadeon catch it and, with her free hand, tried to snatch it back, but he took hold of her and kept both her arms pinned against the wall above her head, holding her down with one hand easily.
He hummed, “Was this for me?” He eyed the syringe, the corner of his mouth perking upwards as his arrogance continued to grow.
Still quavering under his grip, Suki stayed silent.
His voice oozed with mockery. “What could it be? It’s not like I caught you with a bunch of bottles. Let me guess… Wolfbane? A lethal dose perhaps? No – you wouldn’t dare risk that in case it got injected into one of your precious mates. The spirit blocker? Again, no, it was made with my blood; therefore, I am immune to having my power stripped from me. I know you’re a smart girl, pet. You worked all this out.” He stroked Suki’s cheek with the back of his hand, taunting the syringe right in front of her.
She snarled.
“Tsk, poor thing, snarling with no wolf is just sad,” he chuckled. “That leaves us with the last bottle that you had on the counter: a strong tranquiliser. Something that could slow me down and give you an advantage but, at the risk of anyone else getting it, it wouldn’t cause any major harm.”
Suki swallowed thickly.
“Clever girl,” he said, dragging his mouth along her neck, ingesting her scent.
Her breathing became heavier as her chest heaved up and down. She wanted to retreat; she wanted to escape and save her mates and herself. She wanted to save everyone.
“Trying to trick me with the multiple bottles was smart, but I’ve been deceiving people for a long time, and I’m much better at it than you. Poor little Beta-daughter, looks like your training wasn’t good enough to save you.” He grazed his human teeth across her neck.
She whimpered a cry.
Chuckling darkly, he groaned in her ear, “Oh, how I love taunting you, but,” – he clicks his tongue – “I’ve had enough of you fighting me. It’s time for you to slow down and enjoy the ride of your new mate bond with me.”
Her eyes widened, and her lip trembled as she stuttered, “H-Hadeon, no, wait–” She drew in a sharp breath as he injected her with the syringe’s serum. As the cold liquid flowed through her bloodstream, she exhaled, terrified, “P-Please…”
“Shh…” He stroked her hair out of her face and held her chin. “Let it take over and relax you and your inner wolf. I need your wolf spirit alive and well so I can make you mine.”
“That…” Suki’s fear vanished from her face, and a faint smile took its place. “…Is never going to happen.”
Hadeon’s brows creased together. “What are you smiling at?”
“You.” Her gaze flickered between his eyes. She scoffed, “You’re becoming predictable.”
His face relaxed into a grimace, full of confusion.
Not only did confidence flicker in her eyes – the specks of green in her hazel eyes shimmered and glowed as the serum began to take effect. She leaned in closer to him, bringing her face close to his. “That wasn’t a tranquiliser,” she whispered before using his hold on her pinned arms above her head to hold her weight as she hauled her legs up and launched them aggressively hard into his chest, hurling him off of her and across the field. She panted, “It was adrenaline.”
