Chapter 95 Chapter 95
Chapter 95 Chapter 95
Looking back once more, she saw Hadeon approaching faster, and some distance behind him, Reynard and Brendan, still in their wolf forms, were sprinting behind him, trying to catch up.
They’re okay, she thought, relieved.
Her eyes caught theirs and, even though they couldn’t communicate, she knew what they wanted from her. To run and get reinforcements.
With no time to decide, she had to take a risk. She turned left and continued sprinting through the building, trying to ignore the sharp pain attacking her chest as she struggled to keep her breath steady.
Her body was fighting against each move she made. In the back of her mind, all she wanted was to allow her body to collapse, but she couldn’t give up. She wouldn’t.
Slipping into a room, she closed the door behind her and barricaded it with a hospital bed. It wasn’t going to hold him back, but maybe it would slow him down enough.
Turning to examine the room, it was another lab, this one much larger than the one that involved Hadeon’s procedure. Suki allowed herself to pause for a short moment to catch her breath and looked at her surroundings. There were more hospital beds and more cages that lay empty.
The room was a mess – a couple of beds flipped and glass smashed everywhere, which could only mean the werewolves that were captive in here were rescued by the werewolves that came to aid Reynard and Brendan.
This was where the tests on the werewolves were conducted, she thought, placing her hand on a bed – her imagination running wild, wondering what torturous scenarios happened to the innocent werewolves who were trapped here. She prayed that no werewolf met their demise through the brutal experiments, but flickers of her training consumed her mind, telling her that would be too good to be true.
Slowly, her gaze moved over to a medicine cabinet; the glass door was shattered, likely from the altercation that happened here prior. Her mouth watered at the sudden idea that hit her.
Still trying to steady her panting, she rushed over to the cupboard and pulled out various bottles, placing the ones she needed on the counter. When she had them all, grabbed hold of one of the vials and rummaged through the drawers to find what she needed.
“Come on,” she muttered to herself.
A hungry growl emerged from the distance. “Suki…” Hadeon’s voice rumbled through the walls. “I can smell you. You’re close, aren’t you, pet?”
She snarled at his taunting and focused, pulling out a needle and stabbing one of the vials to fill the injection with the fluid. Once full, she placed the cap back over the needle and placed it in her pocket.
Grabbing a few more needles, she placed them on the counter and went to fill another vial when she noticed a door at the other end of the room. Through the window of the door, she could see trees and the night sky.
A way to escape.
As she moved towards the door, the hospital bed flung across the room. Suki flinched, shielding her face from the debris flying across the room, feeling lucky to not have been in the line of that damage.
She dropped her arms, and Hadeon was already there, in front of her. She gasped and dropped the bottle in her hand, smashing it as it hit the ground.
Hadeon tilted his head, looking down at the shattered bottle, then the ones on the counter. He scoffed, mocking her as he stepped closer.
Suki retreated, her back hitting the wall, unable to break her gaze from his hellish eyes. Carefully, she raised her hand towards her pocket, but before she could get close to it, Hadeon projected his hand towards her.
His giant clawed hand wrapped around her middle easily, his claws protracting and digging into the wall behind Suki, trapping her entirely.
Her breathing became shallow as he edged closer to her. She had no choice but to witness the size and strength of his wolf state before her. She tried to show no fear. One arm was trapped under his grip, but the other was free, and she tried to push his hand off her.
Hadeon chuckled, leaning in closer.
Turning her head, Suki squeezed her eyes shut and fought back her tears.
He dragged his snout across her neck and licked her flesh, groaning at her taste. “You’re mine now.”
Before he could take the chance, Brendan barged in first and attacked Hadeon, clawing at his face repeatedly.
Hadeon yelled, releasing his hold on Suki and retaliating against his brother.
Suki collapsed to her knees and gasped for air; she hadn’t even realised she was holding her breath. Something in the corner of her eye made her jump, but when her eyes met with Reynard’s, still in his wolf form, her shoulders relaxed. “Rey,” she said gently, reaching out for him and placing her hand on his head.
He leaned into her touch and stepped closer.
Another graze touched the invisible wall that blocked her connection to her wolf. “I still can’t hear you,” she whispered, touching her temple.
Reynard lowered his head and nudged her to stand. As she came to her feet, he crawled between her legs and threw his head back to push her onto his back.
Suki gripped onto his fur and whispered, “What about–”
He growled quietly, silencing her, and pushed down the bond. ‘Brendan, shield.’
Still distracting his older brother, Brendan summoned shadows around them, omitting them from Hadeon’s sight. ‘Go now. Don’t wait.’
Speeding to the door, Reynard shattered it off its hinges and increased his speed as he targeted the forest, refusing to look back.
Hadeon noticed the loss of Suki’s scent immediately. “NO,” he snarled and chucked Brendan across the room.
Taking advantage of the opportunity he was given, Brendan enveloped himself in his shadows and sped to catch up with the other two to escape.
Suki felt a tingle in her hand exactly where the shadow mark lay. She looked down at it and behind her to see Brendan catching up to them. She gripped Rey tighter, trying not to fall off.
Without her enhanced sight, she struggled to see her surroundings at this speed, but what she could make out was that the building was some sort of abandoned warehouse that Hadeon must’ve discovered and turned into his own base.
A loud boom came from behind them. Hadeon had destroyed one side of the building to get out and follow them. But the shadows shielded them, and he had no idea which direction they went in. Hadeon looked from side to side but couldn’t see or sense anyone.
“He can’t see us,” Suki said, her voice filling with hope.
This was it. They were in the clear.
Something deep and hollow brewed in the pit of Hadeon’s stomach and rose up his chest until he roared, “STOP.”
A weak gasp escaped Suki’s lips as both Reynard and Brendan heeded his command and stopped in their places.
