Chapter 90 Chapter 90
~ Hadeon POV cont. ~
“So, it’s only werewolves who can’t detect me,” I said, approaching her cautiously.
She turned to face me. She wasn’t an elder as I assumed, but she was old enough to have been aged with many years of wisdom. Her eyes were pale as ice as they scanned her surroundings.
“You’re… blind?” I questioned.
She scoffed, “I am, but I see more than what eyes could ever see.” She placed a hand on my cheek. “I’ve been expecting your arrival for quite some time.”
“So it’s true. You’re the seer who predicted the end of the werewolf race, aren’t you?”
Her eyes met mine, even though she couldn’t see me, and it was chilling how she did it. “Don’t insult me by asking questions you already know the answer to, wolfless boy.”
I stilled and swallowed thickly. “You know who I am?”
“Of course I do.”
Shaking my head, I had come here for a specific purpose, but I couldn’t do anything until I had more information. “Why did you run and hide after having the vision?”
The blind witch hummed, “There’s no point treading carefully around me; I know why you’re here. Why don’t you ask me the question you really want to ask?”
I breathed. “Am I the one who makes the vision come true? Am I the cause of the end of the werewolf race?”
The witch’s body relaxed as she exhaled. “Yes, you are.”
Furrowing my brows, I couldn’t believe how calmly she said it. “If you know, then why haven’t you told anyone to stop me?”
“The future is forever changing. What I see is one probability out of hundreds – thousands even. Nothing is set in stone until the path is chosen. It’s why we tell the werewolves we protect not to rely on the powers of premonition. If I were to speak of the person behind the vision and all the in-depth details, I would have set your destiny as well as the many lives your destiny will touch. I left to allow life to take its course the way it was meant to – naturally and through free will.”
Grinding my teeth together, I clenched my fists together. “It’s never seemed like I’ve had a choice for anything in my life. What paths do I have to choose?”
“You’ve always had a choice. You always will have a choice.”
“Then why tell me all of this? Why bother if the future is already changing?”
“Because I sense that you have already made your choice,” she said and retreated a step.
My gaze flickered between her eyes. I held the silence between us for a short while before snorting a half-laugh. “I guess you could say that.”
She sighed, “And I sense you’ve come to finalise it, to make sure nothing stops you on your path.”
I stepped closer to her. “I’d like to consider it as I’m cutting any loose ends. If you’re right and the future is forever changing, then that means there is a chance of you suddenly changing your mind and deciding to tell the werewolves that I’m responsible for their downfall. It’ll ruin everything I have planned for them.”
A tremble grew in her tone. “If you continue down this path, from this point onward, your heart will become poisoned with your malice. You won’t be able to return from it alone.”
Grabbing the witch’s wrist, I pulled her closer and hissed, “My heart was poisoned the day the Moon Goddess chose not to give me my wolf.” I pushed her, and she stumbled to the ground, whimpering in fear. Kneeling beside her, a smug grin grew on my face as I teased, “You’re the seer; how is your future looking right now?”
“I cannot see my own future, just those around me,” she said, propping herself up on her elbows.
I clutched my hand around her throat and made her look at me. “Then tell me what else I want to know.”
She placed one hand around the wrist of my hand around her throat, and the other hand on my shoulder. Closing her eyes, she took in a deep breath and exhaled slowly as she spoke, “If you continue on the path you have chosen–” Her pale eyes opened and glowed under the moonlit night. “–then you will succeed in everything you hope to achieve. Your heart’s deepest desires will become a reality, and you’ll become the creature that currently only exists in the depths of your soul.” She groaned as my grip tightened around her throat. “You will… become… unstoppable.”
A warming sensation grew in me – an ember of a power that was destined to be mine, and I would make sure it would become mine.
Looking up to the sky, a psychotic arrogance glazed over my eyes as I looked up to the full moon, and a hollow chuckle emerged from my chest. “You’re watching, aren’t you, Goddess? You’ll regret everything you’ve done to me. I’ll make sure of it.” I darted my gaze back to the witch and stroked her cheek. “What a shame you weren’t able to see your own future. You probably would have been able to stop all this from happening.”
She wheezed, struggling to suck in a breath. “It wouldn’t have made a difference. My time is my time.” She clawed at my hand; she was too weak to fight against me, but I suppose fighting for your life is an instinct we all possess, no matter how powerful a creature you are.
“How honourable of you,” I taunted.
“A word of warning,” the witch croaked out in a whisper.
Grimacing, I snapped, “What now?”
“In your succession, you will be alone. Forever.”
I snarled, “I’m already alone. I’m looked down on, seen as weak… I’m not one with the werewolves. Once their werewolf sides are gone, they’ll realise what they’ve done to me. They’ll realise how powerful I truly am.”
She shook her head, rasping for breath. “Where there is darkness in one’s heart, there will always be someone to guide you through it. Darkness doesn’t mean evil, but it doesn’t hurt to have a little light to heal you.”
I growled. “What the hell does that mean?”
“It means…” She whimpered, struggling to suck in a breath. “Even though you’ve chosen your path, you haven’t chosen the path of others. There will always be people who will fight for those they love.”
My grip tightened even more. “Then I will find a way to snuff out any light that tries to stop me. Including you.”
