Chapter 89: Chapter 89

~ Hadeon POV cont. ~

Being able to avoid detection from werewolves was my best weapon. At that time, at least.

The following year, whilst Brendan trained to master his powers, I plotted and began executing my plan.

I took on the place in the council I was offered. Being a Beta-wolf and part of the council, with the Alpha’s permission, I was allowed to leave Nighttide. Since I couldn’t sneak past the shadow borders, I created a simple excuse to leave – the opportunity for love.

The assistant from Moonstone. Her name? Who cares. She wasn’t important aside from being my excuse to leave the pack and getting insight into the Moonstone pack.

We would meet outside Moonstone’s borders, within protected land, for a ‘date’. Then I would take a detour on my way home – to the human world.

It didn’t take long to find a group of people who believed in the supernatural and wanted them destroyed. Humans are so naturally easy to manipulate when it comes to things they don’t fully understand and are borderline scared of.

I was close to getting them to follow me, to take control of everything, but they didn’t believe that I wanted to destroy all of the werewolves and needed more to be convinced that I was truly with them.

So I suggested we hunt down and destroy the man who ruined my life.

I made a deal with them – Remus was to be killed, but not before he watched his mate and son be taken away in chains to be used for experimentation. In return, I would offer them my blood for their experiments.

The delusional assistant from Moonstone willingly gave me the details of Remus’ busy schedule after a bit of flirting; it felt all too easy. I knew exactly what day he would be weaker than usual, and that would be the day we’d strike.

Since I couldn’t leave my usual way without raising suspicion, all I needed was someone who wielded shadow magic to sneak me out of Nighttide and sneak me and my human allies into Moonstone.

Well, Suki, I believe you know what happened after that?

Brendan was so obliviously obedient; it was too easy to trick him into going there, but the idiot had to grow concerned about how long we were out in Moonstone. He almost blew the whole thing until I snuck a sleeping pill in his water. I couldn’t have him following me. That move almost ruined everything because he was delirious when we were trying to escape.

Even though I didn’t go into the house that night. I watched from afar. I didn’t expect them all to fight against the humans so well. I gave them everything they needed, and the pathetic humans couldn’t even succeed in the mission.

They killed Remus and his mate. It wasn’t the plan, but it didn’t matter; it could still work with the boy. As they were carrying him towards the door to leave, the sound of concerned neighbours filled the air. They had to abort the mission and leave the boy.

They left Reynard, and he became exactly what his father didn’t want him to be. Ha. It’s somewhat poetic when you think about it…

The mission was a failure in one aspect, but a success in another. We failed to retrieve our test subjects, but I succeeded in getting the humans on my side. They were now the shadows I manipulated to do my bidding.

All that was left was getting werewolves to test on.

I couldn’t risk breaking out of Nighttide again, so I did the next best thing. I broke the humans in.

Brendan had hit a low point during his training. All he did was work and train; he was beginning to feel so alone. Grasping my opportunity, I took him to the depths of the forest to cheer him up. We’d both been trained with the knowledge of shadow magic, so I knew exactly what to say to him, as a youngling still honing his power, to get him to trigger his power and not realise.

He created an invisible opening in the barrier with his shadow magic, and that’s how the humans broke in and ambushed Nighttide.

Alpha Conri was furious; he was ready to murder whoever did it. After all, the betrayal could only have been from another werewolf. A crime to this extent would result in murder or banishment, but since Brendan was a youngling, I thought he would get a slap on the wrist and harder training to discipline him. Then I would be fully in the clear.

I thought the Alpha would go easy on the little tyke, thinking that he’d created a hole in the border by accident. He was still new to his powers after all. But I guess, since he had mastered them so well, it was more believable that he betrayed Nighttide.

Even I was shocked when I watched my little brother get banished and become a Rogue–

Oh, don’t look at me like that, Suki. I couldn’t back out now. I was in too deep, and I was seeing this through. Everyone who had betrayed me – Remus, my Alpha, my family, the werewolves, the Moon Goddess – they all would pay for what they did to me.

After my brother’s banishment, Alpha Conri had sworn off any alliances with all packs, deciding it was best if we all just fend for ourselves. As time went on, other packs followed suit. It was perfect; they all were losing trust in each other, which meant my plan was going to work even better.

They were all scared of the downfall of werewolves, and they were the exact reason it was happening. Well, and myself, of course. But only then did I truly realise who the witch’s vision was truly about.

Me.

And I had to search for her to thank her for showing me my true purpose…

The witch, Candace, was a great help there and told me everything I needed to know about a witch who, after she had that horrific vision, hid herself in between packs in the hopes of never being found.

It didn’t take me long to find her.

As I watched her from a distance, foraging through bushes, her spine straightened. “I know you’re there. Come forward.”
