Chapter 58: When the Moon Weeps
Above them, the sky howled as the last remnants of its sanity cracked apart.
The Blood Moon was no longer a celestial body—it bled in real-time, its light no longer a glow but a wound that seeped into the air, turning the entire battlefield into an abyss of chaos.
And at its center—the Lunari stood in full form.
She was no longer Aria.
She was something otherworldly, a towering mass of shifting darkness, her grotesque form stretching beyond what should be possible.
Her voice came in distorted echoes, speaking in tongues no one should understand—yet every creature in the supernatural world felt her words like hooks in their souls.
"Your time is over."
She lifted her clawed hand, and the earth shattered.
Massive cracks raced across the battlefield, swallowing entire wolves whole. Trees twisted into monstrous shapes, their branches warping into gnarled claws that grasped at anything alive.
The screams of Kael’s warriors filled the air.
And yet—some still believed in Mara’s lies.
Kael’s breathing came ragged. He turned to the remaining wolves, blood dripping from his claws.
"You see this?!" He gestured wildly at the destruction around them. "This is what you’ve chosen! This is your promised future?!"
Some wolves faltered.
But Hunter, panting, still refused to back down. "Mara swore she could control her.”
Kael let out a bitter laugh. "Then look at her! Does that thing look like something you can control?!"
The ground shuddered again. The Lunari’s monstrous head snapped toward them, her mouth stretching into an inhuman grin. "Weak. Pathetic."
Kael had seconds to react before she lifted a clawed finger and flicked it through the air.
A dark pulse exploded from her form, a wave of devastation ripping through the battlefield.
Kael threw himself to the ground, bracing against the force, but many of the wolves who had hesitated weren’t as lucky.
They were torn apart in an instant.
Kael coughed, struggling to rise as the dust cleared.
Hunter was gone.
Half the wolves—gone.
Mara, however, stood unscathed, a smirk still plastered on her face.
Kael’s vision blurred with fury. "You knew she would do this."
Mara chuckled. "I did.”
Kael barely had time to brace before Mara’s magic slammed into him like a tidal wave. He was hurled backward, crashing into the ground hard enough to crack stone.
His vision swam. His muscles screamed.
Above him, the Lunari continued to rise, her power reaching new, unimaginable heights.
Kael’s time had run out.
He forced himself up, his mind racing. He had only one option left.
The ritual.
His gaze flicked to the blood-soaked battlefield, to his few remaining wolves, to the monster that had once been the woman he loved.
He had to end this—now.
But just as he prepared to make his move,a hand seized his wrist.
Cold. Unyielding.
Mara’s voice, laced with cruel amusement, whispered in his ear. "No, Alpha. You’re not going anywhere."
Kael turned—just in time to see her cruel smile—right before darkness swallowed him whole.
Kael’s mind swam in darkness. His body was heavy, his limbs unresponsive, but his instincts screamed at him—wake up.
When his eyes finally fluttered open, he found himself trapped.
Thick chains, glowing with ancient runes, bound him to jagged stone pillars. The air was thick with the stench of blood and magic, and the sky above was an unnatural shade of crimson, swirling like a wound in the universe itself.
The ritual site.
Mara stood before him, arms crossed, watching with mocking amusement.
"Finally awake, Alpha?" Her voice was smooth, taunting. "I was beginning to think the great Kael had given up."
Kael tugged at the chains, his muscles straining. They burned with dark energy, resisting his strength. He snarled, his fangs bared. "Let me go, Mara."
She let out a soft chuckle, stepping closer. "Oh, Kael. You still think you have a say in any of this?"
Her fingers traced the air, weaving strands of dark energy into the sky. The Blood Moon pulsed in response, its light intensifying.
Behind her, the Lunari loomed.
It was no longer just a being—it was an extension of the darkness, a force of destruction given form. Its twisted limbs stretched toward the heavens, feeding on the energy of the dying world.
Kael gritted his teeth. "You have no control over it, Mara. It’s destroying everything—including you."
Mara’s smirk didn’t waver. "You still don’t get it, do you?"
She gestured toward the sky, toward the howling void consuming the horizon.
"This world was never meant to last."
Kael’s stomach clenched. "You want extinction."
Mara’s eyes gleamed. "I want balance."
Footsteps echoed behind Mara.
Kael’s remaining wolves stood at a distance, their faces torn with doubt and fear.
Some had fled. Others had stayed—not for him, but for the promises Mara had whispered to them in the dark.
A world without Alphas. Without submission. Without the endless cycle of war.
Hunter’s second-in-command, a scarred warrior named Garrick, stepped forward. His gaze flickered between Kael and the writhing form of the Lunari.
"Tell me, Mara." His voice was hoarse. "What happens to us?"
Mara tilted her head, her expression unreadable. "That depends."
"On what?"
She smiled. "On whether you’re smart enough to accept your place in the new world."
Kael’s heart pounded. He knew that look.
Mara wasn’t promising them life. She was promising survival—at a cost.
"She’s lying!" Kael shouted, his voice raw. "She’s using you. There will be nothing left! No pack, no future—just endless destruction!"
Garrick hesitated.
The others shifted, uncertainty flickering in their eyes.
But before any of them could speak, the Lunari moved.
A guttural, inhuman growl rumbled through the air. Its jagged form twisted, its elongated fingers stretching outward.
And then it struck.
A black wave of energy ripped through the wolves, tearing through their ranks like a storm.
The ones who had hesitated—gone.
The ones who had stepped closer to Mara—untouched.
Mara turned to them, her expression cold. "Now you see."
Those who remained fell to their knees.
Kael’s stomach twisted. They had chosen.
