Chapter 54: The Seer's Growing Influence
The night sky bled crimson as the Blood Moon climbed higher, its pull suffocating. The air was thick with dread, the earth trembling beneath their feet. Kael could feel her—Aria—but not the way he used to. What once was warmth, was now cold… foreign.
He stood in the ruined packhouse courtyard, his chest heaving as he stared at her—his mate, his love—who now barely looked like herself. Dark veins crawled up her neck, her eyes swirling black with the Seer’s essence. The wind howled, carrying her scent laced with death.
“Aria…” Kael called, his voice hoarse.
Her head snapped toward him, but it wasn’t her. The Seer smirked through her lips. “Still holding onto hope, Alpha?” she taunted. “You’re running out of time.”
Kael’s fists clenched. “I’ll find a way to pull you out.”
A cruel laugh echoed. “You’re weak. Even now, you can’t face the truth. She’s slipping. I’m taking her.”
For a split second, Aria’s true voice broke through, shaking. “Kael… help me… I’m scared…”
His heart shattered.
“Aria—fight her. Hold on to me, baby. You hear me? I’m right here.” He stepped forward, but a force shoved him back, hard enough to crack the ground.
“You can’t save her,” the Seer hissed. “Every time she feels… anything—love, anger, fear—I grow stronger. Your bond is killing her. The same way it took mine”
Kael staggered, panting. “I won’t give up on her.”
The Seer’s grin widened. “But what about them?” She pointed to the battered pack behind him. “They’re dying because of your choice. Because of her.”
Kael turned, eyes scanning his broken warriors—those who stayed, bloodied but standing. Fear reflected in their eyes. Not for the Seer… but for what Aria was becoming.
His Beta, Hunter, limped forward. “Kael… Alpha… we can’t hold much longer.”
Kael’s jaw tensed. “You’re free to go.”
Hunter’s eyes darkened. “No. We stand. But… you need to end this. Before there’s nothing left.”
Kael’s chest heaved as the weight of leadership and love crushed him.
The Seer cooed. “You can’t save everyone, Alpha. Choose. Your pack… or her.”
Aria’s body trembled, her head shaking violently as she fought the pull. “Kael… kill me… before I hurt you…”
“Don’t say that!” he growled, voice breaking.
The Seer shrieked with laughter. “You see? She knows it too. She knows she’s already gone.”
Kael roared, golden energy crackling as he lunged, tackling Aria’s body to the ground. His hands cupped her face, forcing her to look at him.
“Listen to me, Aria. You’re mine. You hear me? I don’t care what she says—you’re mine.”
Tears slipped from her darkened eyes. “I’m scared…”
“I know, baby. I’m scared too. But I’m not leaving you.” His voice dropped, soft but firm. “You said you love me. So fight. Fight for us.”
The Seer’s screech echoed, Aria’s body convulsing as the entity fought back. Dark tendrils lashed out, forcing Kael off.
Kael slammed into a wall but stood, shaking with rage and desperation.
He turned to Hunter. “Gather whoever’s left. Protect the pack. No matter what happens.”
Hunter’s throat bobbed. “And you?”
Kael’s silver eyes locked on Aria. “I’m going to remind her who she belongs to.”
The Seer’s laughter rang louder. “Touch her again… and I’ll snap what’s left of her mind.”
Kael stepped forward anyway. “I’ll die before I let you have her.”
For the first time, the Seer faltered, sensing his resolve. “You’d kill yourself for her? Fool.”
Kael smiled bitterly. “I’m not dying today… but when that time comes—it’ll be my choice.”
He reached Aria again, pulling her close. “You’re still in there, Aria. I feel you. Remember who you are. Remember us.”
Aria’s body trembled. “Kael… I…”
The Seer shrieked, the moon’s light intensifying. “ENOUGH!”
Darkness erupted, consuming everything.
***
The crimson sky loomed overhead, suffocating, unrelenting. Kael’s lungs burned, his body battered, but nothing hurt more than watching her—Aria—fighting a war she could never win.
She stood before him, trembling, her face a twisted mirror of herself. Dark veins snaked along her pale skin, her once-soft lips split from whispered chants in a language older than time itself. The wind screamed, and the ground beneath them groaned like the earth itself was mourning.
“Aria,” Kael rasped, stepping forward, his voice breaking. “Baby… come back to me.”
Her eyes—those familiar brown eyes—flashed black. A cruel, empty smile curved her lips. “She’s gone, Alpha. There’s nothing left to save.”
“No,” Kael growled, shaking his head. “That’s a lie. She’s still in there.”
The Seer’s voice slithered from Aria’s mouth. “You’re wasting your breath. She called me… begged me to take the pain away. And I did. She’s mine now.”
Aria’s body staggered as if some part of her resisted, but it wasn’t enough. Not anymore.
Kael’s silver gaze locked onto her. “Aria… I know you can hear me. Please. You promised me you’d fight.”
A whisper—fragile, weak—broke through the storm. “Kael… I’m… trying…”
It was barely there, but it was her.
Kael took another step. “You’re stronger than her. You’ve always been stronger. Don’t let her take this from you. Don’t let her take us.”
The Seer laughed, high and shrill. “Us? There is no us, Kael. There’s just me—and the shell she left behind.”
The chanting started again, louder this time. The sky cracked open, lightning bleeding red and black. The ground shook, and Kael’s warriors, what was left of them, stumbled back, powerless.
Kael fell to his knees. “Please… stop…”
Aria’s face twisted, pain flickering, but the Seer grinned. “You were willing to die for her, weren’t you? Let me show you what that really looks like.”
She raised her hand, dark energy crackling. The power surged—aimed straight at Kael.
But it wasn’t the Seer who screamed—it was Aria.
“No—no! Don’t hurt him!”
For a moment, the darkness faltered.
Kael pushed to his feet, rushing forward. “That’s it, baby. Keep fighting. Don’t let her win.”
Aria gasped, tears streaming down her face. “I can’t—I’m not strong enough.”
“You are,” Kael said, grabbing her shoulders. “You’re the strongest person I’ve ever known.”
Her body convulsed, the Seer clawing to the surface. “You’re a fool,” the entity spat. “She belongs to me. And when I’m done, I’ll burn your world to ash.”
Kael’s chest heaved. “Then you’ll have to go through me.”
The Seer laughed. “Gladly.”
She chanted again—Aria’s voice no longer hers. The power lashed out, striking Kael and sending him flying. He crashed hard, coughing blood.
Still… he got back up.
“Damn you,” he growled, stumbling toward her again. “I won’t leave you. I don’t care if it kills me.”
The Seer’s eyes narrowed. “You should’ve stayed down.”
Another blast sent Kael sprawling. This time, he didn’t rise. He could barely breathe.
Aria stood over him, the Seer’s grin wide. “See? Even your precious Alpha is nothing.”
Kael coughed, blood trailing from his lips. “Aria… please…”
Aria’s body trembled. “Kael…”
Somewhere… buried deep inside, Aria clawed at the darkness. Memories flashed—of their first kiss, the way he held her like she was his whole world, his whispered promises.
“You were my past, my present, and my future.”
Her scream tore through the air.
*“STOP! GET OUT”* she roared, fighting the Seer’s hold.
The sky cracked again, the Blood Moon pulsing.
The Seer snarled. “You stupid girl. You think love is enough?”
Aria’s body doubled over. “Maybe not. But it’s all I have.”
Kael, barely conscious, watched as Aria fought—fought harder than anyone he’d ever known.
But it wasn’t enough.
The Seer screamed, surging forward, flooding Aria’s body completely. The ground split, darkness pouring from the earth. The pack watched in horror as Aria, their Alpha’s mate, became unrecognizable.
Kael’s tears mixed with blood. “Aria…”
The Seer,fully in control,smirked. “She’s gone. And you… you’re next.”
