Chapter 64: Mid-Day Guest
Chapter 64: Mid-Day Guest
Isla
My eyes tried to blink open. The gunshots sounds still vibrated through my ears, causing me to flinch at every turn. Dante came, the gunshots at the end. Cesare voice broke through the void everything, Sicario protection became flawed in my memory. The heat in my chest ruptured, trying to breathe.
"Isla, wake up." His voice tried to reach me from within. I tried to scream but nothing but air came out of me. I could smell it, a wisp of gun powder everything came rushing at my senses so fast. I couldn't breathe. "It's just a dream." His voice echoed again.
My eyes fluttered open, meeting that familiar smoky grey eyes. His eyes were filled with a dark storm that had consumed him. I saw something else, worry and impatience.
"What happened?" I managed to say as my eyes peeled off the blurriness taking in the surrounding. It want the hospital but it was familiar. His room. Our room. I briefly caught the view from where I was, my body felt limp as I tried to pull myself up with every force in me. "Come on, you just woke up. It would be best if you just relax for a while."
"The gunshots." Everything clicked. "Are you hurt?" I ran my fingers through his body checking for any injuries. "Someone fired a gun at you when you arrived."
"Tesoro, don't worry." He breathed, as his lips broke into a smile. "I'm fine. No one died or was hurt. If seemed they just wanted to shake the hell out of you."
"Why me? I don't think anyone posed a threat to me recently." My memory ate at itself, trying to remember. "I mean. It's my first day..."
"They were Romano's men. I called him to ask if he ordered the attack and it seemed he want aware such a thing had occured."
"Yeah, Sicario and Cesare got there in time to save me." His name brought back a memory, I blinked. "He talked to them like he knew them..." I shook my head..
"Like they take orders from him?"
"Kinda. He definitely knew who they were. Did you think he?" I swallowed. I didn't think I was confident enough to admit.
"No he didn't. He knew them because he worked with them before and he knew how they operate."
I sighed. "I thought today was going to go smoothly. I didn't think I was going to see him, I mean he is my boss. I never knew about that." Dante kept quiet, running his fingers through my hair not furious. He shifted gently towards me, planting a kiss in my forehead.
"Hold on, you are not mad?" I narrowed my eyes.
"You hit your head pretty hard, you should lie down." He deflected, he avoided my gaze. He never did that.
"You are always furious when you hear his name but right now, you are being quiet about it." His silence were heavier than words. "Except, you knew."
"Yes. I have known for a while now."
"And you didn't think to tell me?" I gritted, pained by the betrayal.
"I already threw a feat when he came close to you at the party. I hate the fact that he had that much access to you. You are mine. Then, I also know that your work is important to you and you would be more pissed than you were if I had interfered. So I kept quiet. I don't trust him, I never will. But I trust you and if me not interfering would erase the rift between us, then fine." My lips cornered. I expected him to throw a feat, I was used to his anger and his over protectiveness every time I ran into a dilemma.
"I just wished I knew. Before the attack, I was just surprised to see him. A man like him should be holding guns." Dante laughed, taming my hair backwards as our eyes met. It seems like he knew the men that tried to attack me."
Dante's eyes narrowed. "What do you mean?"
"Sicario was talking to them with a command to drop their weapons. Before I hit my head, I think they said they were following orders." I shook my head, biting through my hazy mind, was making me confused the more. "Tell me you know who they were?is it Rafael?"
Dante shifted closer to me. "Did something else happen before the attack?"
I tilted my head, every picture in the puzzle came together. "Bianca."
"What?"
"You said they were Romano's men and it seems the man himself didn't give the order to take me out. It was Bianca. I didn't think she wanted to hurt me. It was a display of power, to prove that she has all the cards." I recalled.
"Tesoro, tell me exactly what happened."
"She just came to warn me to stay out of your way. That she was getting married to you and I don't fit in that picture." Dante cussed under his breath, he stretched to the night stand beside me. He lifted out the first drawer, he pulled out a glock 19 and clicked in the bullets. "Dante no!"
"She crossed the line coming to your place of work and threatening you like that. I will make it clear to her father to stay out of my business." He tried to leave my fragile grip. I held on still, tighter than I did before.
"You don't have to do that. You would only steer more trouble if you go to her father looking like you are going to tear someone apart. The last time I saw you looking like that, someone died. We have to start thinking strategically how to get out of this, that is your strength, Dante. She knows she can't take my place that's why she's doing all of this. I will go to work like nothing happened while we figure out a way out of this. I have a feeling that she isn't working alone. We need to play along."
A small smile twitched at the corner of his lips. "I thought you hated this plan."
"I do but I want nothing more than to hurt that bitch." Dante leaves in closer, planting a soft kiss in my lips. A kiss on my mouth and a gun in hand.
A loud thud, distracted us from each other. "Well, look who we have here." Her shaved legs and cologne, told me who it was before I saw her face. My heart raced, not in fear but in anger.
The guard rushed in with anger fuming from every hole in the faces. "I'm sorry, boss. She rushed in before we could stop her." Dante dismissed them, his eyes darkened.
"What do you want Bianca and whose bags are those?" The question forced it's way out thr
ough his teeth.
"They are mine. I live here now."
