Chapter 36

Chapter 36
Vera’s eyes narrowed. It was like she saw through me.
“Yes I will ,you'll get a feedback from me later today or tomorrow either ways.”
Alright..

My heart slammed. Seriously, if she found it, I was done. Ronan would drag me to that torture room. My clit throbbed with anticipation, and I hated myself.
"I'll arrange it,” Vera said. Her voice was kinda distant.
“Thank you.”

She left and I exhaled. That was damn close. I managed to avoid problems. For now.
I spread out the letter and stared at it. How would I get it to Caius? Guards weren’t safe, and Vera was too loyal to Ronan.
Like her life depends on it.

My stomach knotted. This was a dangerous game, but I was ready to play it.
With or without anyone's help.

At this point I can't trust anybody.

They can betray me at any time and I'm not ready for that. No more heartbreaks.
The door swung open and Vera stepped in.

Jeez… you would have just knocked you know.

My heart jumped as I squeezed the letter into my sleeve.
I'm so sorry.. I didnt mean it that way.

I searched Vera's face. Did she see it?
"Umm, did you forget something?" I asked her.

"I saw Lady Seraphine around the corner. She wants to oversee some training sessions. She will see you afterward."

"All right." I nodded. I watched Vera leave and I couldn't stop wondering if she had gotten a wind of what was happening.
There was something off about the way she looked at me and the way she moved her eyes around me.

Very suspicious.

If she had seen the letter she would have said something but I guess she didn't see it.
Even if she did. Will she really betray me?.

I got up and secured the door from behind before hiding the letter under my dress. For now, I would focus on meeting Seraphine, but my ultimate goal was to get Caius on my side. As soon as possible.

Ronan’s POV

Sweat trickled down my face and stung my eyes as I swung the electric axe. The blade hummed with bright blue sparks. It sliced the air in the training yard.

My muscles ached, but I kept moving, spinning, striking the dummy. Each hit strained my arms but I didn't stop. Lila’s face haunted me.

It wouldn't leave my mind. Her brown eyes blazed in my mind, her lips parted in defiance. Or was it in anticipation of my seeds?

My cock stirred, and I growled. Fuck this!.

This was getting too much.

I gripped the axe harder and swung with all my strength. I had sworn I would never touch her again.
But I was struggling with my resolution. It wasn't as easy as I thought.

My boot kicked up dust as I swung on and on. I struck harder, splitting the dummy’s head in a shower of sparks dividing it into two.
Lila was still on my mind. My body craved her.

I wanted her skin under my hands. I craved for her presence but I have to be strong.
I wanted to hear her gasp to my whip. I wanted to hear her moan so hard.

I shook my head, trying to banish her. She was a distraction. She has always been.

Ever since she came along, she had always been a weakness. My weakness.

Footsteps crunched behind me. I kept swinging.

“What?” I snapped when I didn't hear anything.

“My lord. A representative from the Far South is here. An undead ruler sent an invite.”

I froze. The Far South. I had heard of undead kingdoms beyond human lands but I had never traveled to see them.

New Arcadia was my duty, my focus, especially with that witch still at large. I lowered the axe and turned to face the guard. “Where is he?”

“Council hall, my lord. Lord Caius and Darius are there too."

I nodded and wiped sweat from my brow. “I’ll be there.”

The guard bowed and left. I strode to my chamber and took off my sweaty training vest. The air was cool against my damp skin.

In the shower, hot water dropped on my back, washing sweat but not the ache I felt for Lila. My cock stayed hard, betraying my resolve. I leaned against the tiled, feeling the gush of hot water on my skin.

Lila’s scent lingered in my mind. Nobody had ever entrapped my emotions like this.

Was I under her spell ?

I’d sat by her bed in the clinic, whispering promises, baring my soul like a fool. I didn't know she faked it all, played me to escape. . .

I stepped out, dried my body in a blink and donned a black royal robe. I didn't forget to hold my axe before leaving my chamber. My cock stayed hard as I approached the hall.

It was hard getting Lila out of my head. I stopped at the door and allowed myself imagine what the Far South land looked like. Only then did I go soft.
In the hall, Caius and Darius sat at the long table, opposite the representative. He was tall, gray-skinned and red-eyed. His robe shimmered, threads pulsing like circuits.

That was technology, not magic. Impressive.

I took my seat at the table head and faced the representative.

The representative bowed. “Lord Ronan, I am Varek, sent by Queen Lyssa of the Far South. She invites you to our kingdom to forge an alliance, share knowledge, strengthen our kind.”

“Tell me about your kingdom.” I leaned back, resting my chin on my palm.

Varek’s lips curled into a smile. He pulled a small device from his robe, palm-sized, and pressed it. A hologram flickered to life. It showed sleek metal towers and hyper-powered machines gliding through streets. All around undead soldiers wielded weird looking weapons. My chest tightened. From the look of things, their tech outstripped ours.

“Look at these plasma blades,” Varek pointed to a soldier’s weapon. “They cut bone like butter. Not even the most potent hex can stop that.”
He tapped the device, and the hologram shifted to a bird-eye view of a vast, gleaming city.
Caius grunted, “Remarkable."

Darius said nothing.

I leaned forward. “That was impressive but I’m not leaving my kingdom. Not now.”

"You stand to gain a lot from Queen Lyssa's offer. Knowledge, weapons, a chance to crush your enemies. . ."
“I don't have the time to honour the invite.
