Raw Magic
POV: Sultan
Sultan felt the tension in his chest ease as Leandra's determination solidified. She wasn't backing down, and that was a good sign. She wasn't docile or unquestioningly accepting everything, and he respected her. She asked the right questions, pushed back where needed, and showed the strength he had always sensed in her.
But he also knew that the road ahead was fraught with danger. She wasn't prepared, not yet.
"She's strong," his wolf growled approvingly, pacing in Sultan's mind. "But we must prepare her. The others won't wait for her to be ready."
Sultan's jaw clenched as he glanced toward the window, his senses on high alert. His wolf was right. The rival factions wouldn't give them the luxury of time. Once word spread, it would draw attention, like blood in the water.
He turned back to Leandra, who was observing him, her arms crossed and her gaze sharp. She was still processing everything he had told her, but there was no going back. The truth was out, and they had to move forward.
Leandra's eyes narrowed, her skepticism still clear. "And how do you know they're after me? I mean, it sounds like they've been fighting each other for a while. What makes me so important to all of this?"
Sultan hesitated for a moment, then answered carefully. "Your magic, your heritage—whatever you are, it's rare. There are stories, legends even, about beings like you: Half-human, half-fae, or half-witch. Hybrids with untapped power are capable of more than either side alone. The magic inside you has been dormant for a long time, but now that you're awakening, they'll come for you. They'll either want to control you or destroy you."
Leandra's lips pressed into a thin line, her tension still palpable, but she didn't argue further. Sultan could feel her struggling to accept everything he had said, and he knew it would take time for her to trust him fully. But she was strong, and that was what mattered. She would rise to meet this challenge as he had always believed she would.
"You mentioned vampires and witches," Leandra said suddenly, her voice cutting through the silence. "What about them? You're a werewolf, right? So why are they involved in this? I thought vampires and werewolves hated each other."
Sultan's expression hardened, his jaw tightening. "The old rivalries are still there, but this is bigger than just pack disputes or territory wars. The supernatural world is more interconnected than you realize. The vampires, witches, and other creatures all sense the same shift. Something is changing, and your magic is part of that shift. It's why they're all on the move, forming alliances, plotting. They know something's coming and want to be on the right side of it."
Leandra's eyes widened. "And they think I'm part of that? That I could somehow tip the balance?"
Sultan nodded grimly. "Yes. That's why you're so important. They see you as a key player in what's coming. You may not feel like you have power now, but once your magic fully awakens, you can change everything. For better or worse."
Leandra stood up suddenly, pacing across the room. She ran her hands through her hair, clearly trying to process everything. Sultan watched her, sensing the storm of emotions swirling inside her: frustration, fear, uncertainty.
She stopped suddenly, turning to face him with a look of fierce determination in her eyes. "Okay. I get it. I'm in danger. But I don't want to sit around waiting for something to happen. If what you're saying is true, I need to be ready. You said you'd help me, train me—then let's do it. I need to know how to defend myself, how to control this power you say I have."
Sultan smiled faintly, a sense of pride swelling in his chest. This was the Leandra he had sensed from the beginning—strong, determined, unwilling to be a victim.
"I will train you," he said, his voice full of conviction. "But it won't be easy. Your magic is different from anything I've encountered before. We'll have to take it step by step, figure out what hybrid you are, what you're capable of, and then learn how to control it."
Leandra crossed her arms, her gaze sharp. "I don't care how hard it is. I want to learn. I can't just rely on you to protect me forever. I need to know how to protect myself."
Sultan stood, stepping closer to her, his eyes locking onto hers. "You won't have to rely on me forever. But I'll always be here, Leandra. No matter how strong you become or how much control you gain, I'll be by your side. We're in this together."
Leandra held his gaze, her expression unreadable. Sultan could feel their bond strengthening, the pull growing more intense with every moment they spent together. But she was still guarded, still wary of what that bond truly meant. And that was okay. He would give her time. He would let her come to him when she was ready.
For now, they had a war to prepare for.
"Fine," she said finally, her voice steady. "When do we start?"
Sultan's lips curved into a small smile. "Now."

POV: Leandra
Leandra felt the weight of Sultan's promise settle in her chest, both comforting and terrifying. She had made her choice. She couldn't turn back now. But she wasn't ready to be anyone's damsel in distress, and she certainly wasn't prepared to trust someone she barely knew with her life, no matter how much he claimed they were bonded.
Sultan stepped closer, and though his presence was overwhelming, Leandra felt her spine straighten. "I need to know something," she said, her voice firm. "If I'm so important to this war, and you've been watching the signs for months, then who else knows about me? Am I already a target?"
Sultan's expression grew more serious. "I'm not sure who else knows that you are the hybrid, but I will keep your presence hidden for as long as possible, but there are rumors. Whispers of a powerful hybrid coming into their own. The factions know something is happening, but they haven't figured out who you are yet, at least from what my reports say. That's why we need to move quickly—train you, protect you—before they figure it out."
Leandra clenched her jaw. "And if they do? What then? I don't want to be some pawn in a game I didn't ask to play."
Sultan's eyes darkened. "If they find out who you are, we fight. And believe me, they won't take you without a fight."
Leandra nodded, but inside, fear gnawed at her. She wasn't prepared for a war. She wasn't even ready for the idea of being magical, let alone being hunted because of it. But there was no time for doubt. Not anymore.
"Then let's start now," she said, her voice steady. "Show me what I need to do."
Sultan gave her a look filled with respect. "Follow me."
He led her outside into the fenced backyard, where the soft light of sunset was starting to break over the horizon. The air was crisp, and for a moment, Leandra let the cool breeze calm her nerves. Sultan stood beside her, a steady presence, and she could feel the energy radiating from him.
"We'll start with how to channel your magic and tap into it; once you do that, we'll have a better idea of what hybrid you are, and then we can go from there," he said, turning to face her. "Magic is like an extension of your will. It's tied to your emotions, to your intent. Right now, your magic is raw and unfocused. You'll need to learn how to channel it."
Leandra nodded, though her stomach churned with uncertainty. "How do I even begin?"
Sultan smiled faintly, a glimmer of amusement in his eyes. "Close your eyes."
Leandra shot him a skeptical look but did as he said, closing her eyes and taking a deep breath. She felt awkward standing there, unsure what to do, but Sultan's voice was calm and steady.
"Feel the air around you,"
