CHAPTER EIGHT
AURORA'S P.O.V
"...do you think she's going to...okay?"
"...yes...it was....minor exhaustion."
The muffled noises around me woke me up slowly. My head still felt groggy but I no longer felt weak.
"I hope she wakes up soon."
Was that Talia's voice? It sounded too familiar, I just need to open my eyes now.
"Ow...too bright...why is it so bright?" I mumbled as I pried my eyes open.
A white room came into my view, complete with white walls and bright light coming from the window.
"Aurora? Aurora! You're finally awake!"
"Ooof!" Someone slammed into me, engulfing my body in a tight hug.
"You wicked girl! How could you scare me like that?" Talia sniffed as she squeezed me.
"Can't...breath...Talia." I pleaded with difficulty.
"I'm sorry." She finally released me and held my face. Her eyes were red and puffy, I'm guessing from crying. I suddenly felt a warm feeling in my chest, at least there was someone ready to cry for me.
"I'm okay Talia, don't cry again okay."
"How could I not cry, you were unconscious for the whole night. Imagine my fright when I found you lying naked and unconscious in the middle of nowhere." She almost yelled.
"I'm sorry..." I mumbled, my head lowered.
"Why are you apologizing? Your house caught fire. How did that happen?"
I shrugged, my head still trying to figure that out too. I can't even remember what happened after I saw my fur. I just know I fainted but what caused it, I have no idea.
"I have no idea, after I got home, I remember falling asleep immediately. Then I woke up only to see that the place was on fire. I can't..." I swallowed, recalling how I escaped and my strange episode with my fur.
"Yeah? What is it?" Talia persisted, worried by my silence.
"Honestly, I have no idea how I escaped. All I can tell is that I shifted and ran."
"Well, its a good thing you shifted, that gave you a boost to run right?"
"Right." I blinked, remembering something. "Wait. How did you find me in the woods? I'm sure no one would have been there."
"I followed your scent. I almost died thinking you were in the fire but then my wolf sniffed your scent. So I followed, until I found you." She explained.
I smiled gratefully as I pulled her in for a hug.
"I guess that's why you are my best friend."
She giggled, holding me tight.
"You got that right."
Then the door suddenly burst open, startling the both of us. I stifled a groan as soon as I saw Lucian rushing in. What's he doing here?
I gave a silent look to Talia with a question, she only shrugged and smiled.
He rushed to me and sat on the bed, I didn't even realize that Talia had stood up.
"I'll go out for a bit...I need to do some...something...bye!" She gave a short wave and ran out.
"Are you alright? Are you hurt? What happened? They said they found you unconscious and your house was also on fire. Tell me what happened?" Lucian rambled.
I rolled my eyes, I noticed that his face had some bruises on them, he even had a split lip. But that was none of my business.
"Why are you here, Lucian?"
He blinked as if confused.
"I'm here to know how you are doing. Is that bad?"
"No, its not bad but it's also not good. I don't want you here."
His face suddenly stilled, his eyes going sombre.
"But I'm your mate. Do you think I would have stayed quiet after hearing that my mate's life was in danger? What kind of a person do you think I am?"
"The kind who is meant to mind his business while a poor, weak Omega goes about her life."
He frowned, his lips in a thin line.
'That's too harsh to our mate, now he is feeling bad.' My wolf scolded.
I sighed and shook my head.
"I'm sorry, that came out too harsh."
His eyes followed me.
"It's fine."
"All I'm saying, is that I want you to go about your life the same way you have been living it...without me. Just pretend like I'm not there and I'll do the same."
He stayed silent for a while, his head lowered.
"How did the fire happen?"
I blinked, startled by the sudden change of topic.
"Well, I have no idea to be honest. Maybe an appliance overheated or something. I was sleeping when it happened."
"God!" He mumbled and lowered his head, his hands on his hair tugging it. Then he took my hands in his. I had to bite the inside of my mouth from making a sound. The pleasurable coursing of electricity along my spinal cord was too good. An annoying proof that he was still my mate.
"Do you see why I can't take my mind off you?" He whispered, his voice like silk.
"H..huh?" I squeaked then had to clear my throat. "Huh?"
With his bright, blue eyes still on mine, he continued.
"You say I should live my life like usual...before you came in. But can't you see? My whole life was spent waiting for you...my mate. Even if you wanted me to, I'm sorry I can't just push you to the side. I'll keep on trying until you accept me."
Wow! He's so romantic! My wolf gushed, I numbly agreed. But that doesn't mean I'll accept him. I'm sure this is all an act. Just as I made to speak, a loud clap startled us both.
"Very nice, very romantic. I just learned a few pointers today."
"What are you doing here Kieran? When did you follow me?" Lucian growled though not with much intensity this time.
Kieran waved his hand, a smile on his face.
"Forget that. We should focus on where she would stay since her house is gone."
"I was going to get to that." He gritted out, but the way his eyes darted to mine, I knew he hadn't thought of that.
Kieran crossed his large hands across his chest.
"And I think the answer is obvious."
"What do you mean?" I questioned.
He smirked at me, his eyes mischievous.
"Why don't you stay at the pack house?"
