Chapter 47 47
CHAPTER FORTY-SEVEN

AURORA'S P.O.V

I stood frozen, my hand hovering over the document, as the woman's words hung in the air. Alpha Desmond's face turned a shade redder, and he took a step back, his eyes darting between me and the woman.

She was Lucian's mother? I stared at her in surprise, this is the first time I was seeing her and she makes a damn good first impression.

She pointed a finger at him, her neck and head veins bullying.

"Get my son out of that filthy dungeon. Right now, you coward!"

"Eleanor, go back to your room," he gritted out, his voice tight.,

The woman, Eleanor, shook her head, her eyes blazing with fury.
"Back to my room? Never! You think you can lock up my son and I won't do anything?"

I took a step back, letting them talk, the document still on the table.

Eleanor turned to me, her expression softening slightly. "You must be Aurora, Lucian's mate, right? I've heard a lot about you."

I nodded, still trying to wrap my head around the situation.

Her eyes narrowed as she turned back to Alpha Desmond.
"Desmond, I can let you beat me, I can let you insult me to my face because I felt like I deserved it. But what I won't let you do, is treat my son like garbage. Not anymore. I'm not going to sit down quietly and let him suffer in that dungeon like he used to in the past.", she raised her chin at him,  "This time, I'm putting my foot down. Let him go!"

Alpha Desmond's face twisted in anger, his eyes flashing with resentment and something akin to shock.

"You seem to have finally left your shell and gotten your wings huh? But that doesn't matter because nothing you say or do will make me release him until this girl is out of my pack." He pointed at me.

She growled and was about to say something when her eyes caught the document on the table, she glanced at the pen in my hand and looked up at me.

"What is this?" She picked up the document and quickly read through it, by the time she was done, the edges of the document was squeezed hard and her knuckles were white. She turned to stare at me with red eyes, her grip on the document trembling.

"Were you going to sign this!"

I bit my lips and nodded.
"It was the only way."

She scoffed and squeezed the document until it was a ball of rumpled paper.

"Eleanor! What do you think you are doing?" Alpha Desmond growled and made to rush at her but she pointed a finger at him.

"Hold it right there, you bastard." Her eyes filled with hate as she began tearing the document into little pieces.

"I curse the day I decided to marry you. You made me waste away with guilt and let you treat me any how you choose. I'm done keeping quiet."

Then she turned to me, her voice taking on a soft edge.
"If you thought signing that bloody paper and going away was going to help him, trust me, it wasn't. The only thing you were doing was setting a slow path to his ruin. I beg you, no matter what you do, leaving him is not the choice. Now Desmond..."

She approached him slowly, not paying mind to the murderous look in his eyes or the way he balled his fists.

"...you are going to give me the keys to that dungeon and I will release my son. Then you will renounce your stupid order of him being a criminal for treason."

"And if I don't?" He snarled.

She smiled innocently, her eyes shinning.
"Then you wouldn't mind me going to the pack elders and telling them what a coward you are and how you are oppressing a young lady simply because you fear what she is. What do you say?"

Damn, from now on, she is my role model. I clapped in my heart as I watched her brave the big bad wolf.

Alpha Desmond said nothing, or maybe he tried to but he couldn't. The corner of his lips trembled and I could see little flecks of white form, his eyes had gone black to show that he and his wolf were now in sync. He stood in that position for a while, his body shaking with unleashed anger, until he turned round and slowly headed for his table. He opened a drawer and three a bunch of keys onto the table.

"Take it and leave." He ordered in a strangled voice.

"Better." Eleanor sniffed, then she smiled at me, took my hand and left me out of the office.

"Ma'am, I think I just fell in love with you." I gushed to her.

She laughed, a pleasant sound that resounded through the corridor as her eyes shown with exhilaration.

"Thank you, I feel so strong and happy, now that I said those words to him. Why did I never find the courage to do this a long time ago?" She spoke in a wonder-filled voice.

I smiled and replied.
"You were just waiting for the right time, I guess."

She nodded slowly.
"I guess I was, come. Let's go free my son."

Thats when I noticed I still had the pen he had given me for the contract in my hand, I better return it then.

“I forgot to return the pen,” I told her softly and smiled, she nodded.
"I'll wait for you.". I retraced my steps, my snickers barely making a sound, his  door was still ajar, just enough to cast a sliver of light across the hall.
That’s when I heard it.

“I should have killed the boy a long time ago, Lucian. Damn you."

Alpha Desmond’s voice cut through the silence like a blade. Cold. Calculared. There was so much hate and venom in his voice that it couldn't be for his son. But I heard it clearly, he had definitely been talking about Lucian.

"I'm going to kill him, no matter how long it takes."

I froze.
