CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-ONE
AURORA'S P.O.V
"Mom."
"Mother." I called softly.
She hurried over to us, dressed comfortably in a pair of baggy pants and a plaid t-shirt, her hair styled in waves.
"I came here because I heard some alphas were here..." Her eyes darted round the meeting hall. "...but it seems there is a more pressing issue."
"I think we should sit down for this." Griffin suggested.
"Bless your heart, I would love that." She smiled.
We walked towards the various seats arranged in a straight line, usually reserved for the elders. After she was seated, Lucian filled her in on the two alphas visits and the letter I was handed.
A frown settled on her face as she crossed her arms, fuming.
"Those annoying mutts, to think they had the balls to offer you women in the name of peace treaty." She shot me a look beneath her eyes, "I hope you let them have it, don't tell me you sat quietly as it all happened."
I nodded quickly.
"Hell no! I so, did not keep quiet. You can ask him..." I pointed to Lucian. "...he knows, I personally let them know that I was already more than enough."
Lucian nodded, smiling too.
"Yes, she really let them have it and she called me honey. I was so proud."
She grunted, her eyes filled with pride.
"That's my girl, let them have it." Then she took a deep breath and motioned with her hands. "Let me see the letter."
"Here it is."
Lucian handed it to her, her eyes narrowed in concentration as she read it, humming softly.
The tension was literally killing me as we waited, I couldn't help it anymore so I leaned in curiously.
"How do you know its not Desmond that sent it?"
She finally looked up, snorting.
"Definitely not Desmond."
Lucian, Griffin and I asked at the same time.
"Why do you think so?"
"Why?"
"How do you know?"
She regarded us quietly, an amused smile on her face.
"Someone is definitely out there but it's not Desmond because none of this is his handwriting. I was with the bastard for more than twenty years and I can tell with my eyes closed that it looks nothing like what Desmond would write or how he writes."
"Are you sure?" I asked timidly, a certain calmness beginning to settle over me.
"Lucian, you know him, tell me, would someone like Desmond, who loves to act on his plans, play drawn out games like this?"
Lucian looked me directly in the eyes as he answered.
"No, he wouldn't."
She threw up her hands, "And there you have it. Besides, I know he's dead and don't ask me how I know, I just do. The bastard is never coming back."
"Told you so." Lucian nudged me with his shoulder, I shrugged helplessly.
"What was I supposed to think? He really did a number on me."
"Such a scaredly thing for a warrior like you to say." He teased.
I barred my teeth playfully at him.
"Even warriors get scared."
"So, we know it's definitely not Desmond but someone is out there and it seems he has set his target on you. Again. Is there something like a trouble magnet on you, Aurora?" Griffin asked with a slightly exasperated tone.
I lowered my head, pouting.
"I don't know, stop making fun of your Luna or I'll tell Talia."
His face went red, "Sorry."
Lucian pulled me into his chest, gently running my back.
"It's not her fault. No matter who it is, we will always have your back. Right Griffin?"
His tone was daring, Griffin grinned and raised his hands in a gesture if surrender.
"Even if it costs me my life."
"Oh no, let's not go there, I don't want Talia to kill me."
Everyone burst out laughing.
Lucian kissed my forehead.
"But I'm serious, no matter who this person might be and whatever plans he has, we will try to be one step ahead. And that goes for you too Aurora, please always protect yourself."
I made a face, sitting up.
"Its not like I don't protect myself, I can protect myself." I grumbled, glaring up at him, he blinked and began to caress my head like I was a baby.
"I know that, I'm just...saying."
"Better." I grunted, snuggling back into his arms and taking in his scent.
We suddenly heard a light clap.
"Oh, just look at them, so in love. I wish I had those when I married..."
Lucian and I exchanged a sad glance knowing the fate she was dealt with my Desmond.
"...anyway..." She waved her hands, a grin on her face as she winked suggestively at us. "Whan am I getting my grandkids?"
"What!?" I gasped, almost jumping out of Lucian's grasp.
I stood fumbling like a deer caught in headlights, my eyes darting anywhere but Lucian's face.
"Mother! That...how could you...I mean...that's too soon. Way too soon. Right?" I finally looked at me, begging him with my eyes to help me.
"Nonsense!" She shook her head, her eyes wide with disbelief. "What do you mean way too soon? Its never too soon for a grand child. I am not getting any younger."
"Mother, you're like in your late thirties." I provided, hoping she would let the matter go.
She preened, grinning.
"Thank you, I take of my skin regularly...oh wait. I see what you did there. You are not getting out of this so easily, I need grandkids, okay, its my only dying wish, so get to bed and start creating."
"Mother!" I yelled, covering my face and searching for somewhere to bury myself.
"Heehee! This is classic." Griffin couldn't help laughing, if looks could kill, mine would have had him dead in seconds. He shut up immediately and turned away, busting himself with his phone.
"Lucian!" I snapped, "...help me!"
He had been relaxing against the seat, a half smile on his lips while my embarrassment was getting bigger. He sighed loudly, stood up and walked towards me, a smirk on his lips.
"You called?"
I leaned in, speaking through gritted teeth.
"Explain to her that I am not ready for a child yet, I need sometime to unwind and relax. Okay."
He smiled then turned to face her.
"Mom..." He began, why did I feel like something was wrong.
