Chapter 140 Chapter 140
Everything happened too fast. One moment, I was standing beside Damian, my heart racing and my mind spinning with the lie I had just formed in my head and the next..Lorcan moved.
His movement was a blur. Then a crack. A sickening sound of bone meeting bone Damian didn’t even have time to react. His body dropped instantly, crumpling to the ground like a puppet with its strings cut.
Unconscious.
I gasped, stumbling back, my heart slamming violently against my ribs.
“Lorcan….”
He didn’t even look at Damian. His eyes were locked on me. They were dark and cold. He looked dangerous in this moment.
“He’s lucky I didn’t kill him. You were trying to run away?” he asked softly. My throat went dry.
I forced myself to stand mu ground, even though every instinct screamed at me to run.
“You locked me in a room. What did you expect?” I snapped, my voice shaking despite my effort to remain calm.
“Patience”
“I’m not yours to keep” I shot back. Something flickered in his gaze.
“You always were stubborn but I’m the only one that can handle you”
Before I could move or think, he stepped forward and grabbed my arm roughly. I winced.
“Let me go!”
“No” His grip tightened.
“You’re coming with me”
“Where?”
“We are going to see Lucian, of course” my heart skipped.
Lorcan dragged me forward without another word until we were outside where Lucian was. I stumbled as I tried to keep up, my body still weak and strength not fully returned. The corridor blurred as panic rose in my chest.
“Lorcan, stop…”
He didn’t. He didn’t even slow down.
“Lorcan!” I tried again, desperation creeping into my voice. “You’re hurting me…”
“Good” he said quietly.
My breath hitched. Something was wrong, very wrong. The deeper we went, the louder the sounds became. Growls and voices. Tension thick in the air. Then we stepped outside. My breath caught.
Lucian.
He was there, on his knees and held down by silver chains by several wolves. He struggled and fought but I knew the silver had weakened him. Blood streaked across his face, his chest rising and falling heavily, his eyes glowing with a furious, almost feral gold.
“No….”
The word tore from my throat before I could stop it.
His head snapped up. His gaze found me instantly and everything changed.
“Ailsa” my name left his lips like a growl.
The moment our eyes met, something inside him snapped. I felt it through the bond like a surge. It was raw and uncontrolled. Then he let out a loud growl. He had lost control.
The wolves holding him down struggled as his body surged violently against them.
“Get your hands off me!” he roared. Fear gripped me because I knew the pain he would face if he tried to fight the chains.
“Lucian, stop….” I screamed but he wasn’t listening.
Lorcan’s grip tightened on my arm as he stepped forward.
“Careful, you might hurt yourself” he said lightly, though his eyes were sharp. I yanked against his hold.
“Let him go!”
Lorcan didn’t even glance at me. Instead, he looked at Lucian and smiled.
“You came alone”
Lucian’s growl deepened, low and dangerous.
“Release her” Lorcan tilted his head slightly.
“Or what?” Lucian’s eyes darkened.
“You don’t want to find out” my breath came out faster.
“Lucian, please…”
But Lorcan spoke again, cutting me off.
“You always were reckless. Charging in without thinking. Do you think you could take a hundred wolves alone?” he asked calmly.
Lucian struggled harder, muscles straining against the wolves holding him.
“Say another word” he warned. Lorcan’s lips curved slightly in amusement.
“Oh, I think I will”
My stomach dropped. Lorcan was riling him up on purpose. He wanted to get a reaction out of him.
“Lorcan, stop…”
“You should thank me…” Lorcan continued casually. “For taking care of what you couldn’t”
I saw Lucian freeze. My heart stuttered.
“Don’t” I begged in a whisper. Lorcan’s eyes flicked briefly to me. Then back to Lucian.
“She was mine first and will remain mine”
Lucian’s entire body went rigid. The bond between us trembled violently. Rage flowed through the bond and I felt every bit.
“Stop it!” I cried, struggling against Lorcan’s hold.
“This isn’t helping…”
But Lorcan wasn’t done.
“And you didn’t even know. Did you?” he added softly.
Lucian’s breathing grew heavier and uneven. His eyes had turned a feral gold color. The mark on my arm throbbed painfully. I clutched it.
“Ailsa. Come here” he said, his voice strained now, his gaze locked on me.
I tried. Goddess, I tried but Lorcan’s grip tightened painfully.
“I don’t think so. She stays with me” Lucian’s eyes flashed.
“You don’t get to touch her” Lucian said in a strained voice.
“I already have. This is the last time you see her by the way” Lorcan chuckled darkly.
That was it. Lucian snapped. I felt it like a shock through my entire body. The wolves holding him down didn’t stand a chance.
With a violent surge of strength, Lucian broke free, throwing them off like they weighed nothing. A deep, primal growl tore from his throat and then he shifted.
The transformation was brutal and fast, bones cracking, muscles tearing and reforming as his wolf took over completely. A massive, dark wolf stood in his place, eyes blazing with fury. My breath seized.
“Lucian…”
But Lorcan only smiled.
“Finally”
Then, he shifted too. Some other wolves came from different angles and tried to attack Lucian but he tore them apart until he faced Lorcan.
Two Alphas facing each other.
I remembered this exact image. That’s when I realized that the prophecy never lied. This was my fate and I had to choose.
The air crackled, time seemed to pause and then they collided. The sound of impact was deafening.
I screamed.
“Stop!”
They didn’t. They used their teeth and claws. Blood splattered everywhere. They tore into each other with a violence that made my stomach twist.
Lucian was faster and driven by something deeper than instinct but Lorcan anticipated him and matched his blows.
We need to stop this
I heard a voice. I stumbled forward, my body weak but my heart pushing me.
“Stop it!” I cried. “You’re going to kill each other!”
No response. Just growls and snarls. I heard more wolves around clashing and fighting but I could only see two wolves. The sickening sound of flesh tearing made me want to throw up.
“Lucian!”
My voice broke. I moved closer. My wolf screamed at me to stay back but I couldn’t listen not when I know Lucian is in danger because of me.
“Please!” I sobbed. “Stop..”
Suddenly I was in the middle of it. There was a blur of movement, I gasped as something slammed into me, a pain exploded through my side. A strike meant for Lucian but it wasn’t Lucian who got hit.
My body was thrown back, hitting the ground hard.
For a moment, everything went silent. My vision blurred and my ears rang. Then, pain, sharp and burning.
“Ah!!” I cried out, my hands clutching my side, my breath coming in shallow gasps.
The world spun.
“Ailsa!” I heard the panic in Lucian’s voice as I felt him by my side.
“Look at me” he said urgently, his voice shaking. “Look at me”
I tried. My vision struggled to focus.
“Lucian…I…lo…” I coughed blood.
“Y-you”
