Chapter 139 Chapter 139
My breath caught in my throat. Marie’s lips curved slowly into a satisfied smile.
“Well, he’s in love with you just like you love him” she murmured. My pulse began racing.
Outside, the entire territory had gone silent.
“COME OUT AND FACE ME!”
Then Lucian’s voice rang out again, even louder this time. The Alpha command rolled across the land like an earthquake.
My heart pounded painfully in my chest. I couldn’t believe it. No, I could believe it. I had prayed for this to happen.
He came.
He actually came.
Fear and relief collided inside me because if Lucian was here…then Lorcan would have to answer. He couldn’t let an Alpha stand outside like that.
I was just skeptical about one thing, when two Alphas faced each other like this, there was only one way it could end.
Death.
The truth caused goosebumps to travel up my arms. I glanced at the door the same time Marie glanced wt it too.
“Perfect timing” she said softly.
I turned to her sharply.
“What do you mean by that? You planned this?”
Marie only smiled.
“You just have to watch how it plays out” she turned to leave them stopped and looked back at me.
“Make sure you don’t leave here or you won’t like the consequences” Marie warned before she left locking the door.
Damn!
I paced the room, from one end to the other, then back again, my feet against the cold stone floor and my breath uneven, my hands twisted together until my knuckles ached.
Every second stretched too long. Outside, somewhere beyond these walls, something was happening. My chest tightened painfully.
“Please…” I banged on the door. “ Let me out… please…”
No one answered. Of course no one answered. Marie had locked me in here. I clenched my jaw.
“When I’m out of here, I would kill Marie” I swore under my breath. My wolf stirred restlessly inside me, pacing just as I was.
‘We need to find a way to leave here’ she said.
“I know” I whispered, my voice cracking. “I know.”
My chest rose and fell quickly.
Lucian.
The bond pulsed faintly again uneven, strained, but alive. He was near yet so far away.
Then suddenly a sharp pain jabbed me in my ribs. I froze mid-step. My eyes widened slightly as a memory replayed in my mind.
Two figures.
Two wolves.
Clashing and fighting
Blood and plain. A scream I hadn’t realized was my own. I staggered back a step, my hand flying to my chest.
“No…”
The memory sharpened. I had seen it before. I remembered it clearly now. I know what it meant.
My heart began to race faster.
“This is it” I whispered. “This is what I saw…”
‘Something bad is coming’ my wolf whispered. I shook my head, panic rising.
“No—no, no, no…”
My breathing became uneven. I had to stop this. If that dream meant anything….If it was real, then one of them wasn’t walking away. Fear clawed at my throat.
“I won’t let that happen” my voice cracked. “I won’t…”
I turned sharply toward the door. I had to get out. Now. I rushed forward and grabbed the handle, twisted it.
My jaw clenched. I knew it wasn’t going to be easy to open the door since it was locked from outside. I rattled it harder.
“Open!” I snapped out of sheer desperation, as if the door might open. Frustration surged through me.
“Damn it, Marie!”
I stepped back, dragging a hand through my hair, my mind racing.
Think.
Think.
There had to be something. My gaze swept the room quickly. From the table to chair to the bed. Nothing useful. My eyes landed on a small metal hairpin lying near the mirror. Hope sparked in me. I rushed over and grabbed it, my fingers trembling slightly.
“This has to work…”
I moved back to the door, crouching slightly as I pushed the pin into the lock, trying to steady my breathing.
Outside, I heard voices shouting. My heart slammed against my ribs. They were already fighting.
“Hurry” my wolf urged.
“I’m trying” I muttered. My hands shook and the pin slipped.
“Damn it…”
I tried again. This time more focused and slower, my breath came out in short bursts.
“Come on… come on…”
A sharp click sounded. Relief surged through me and then the door burst open. I gasped, stumbling back as the force of it nearly knocked me off balance. My head snapped up and my heart dropped.
“Damian”
He stood in the doorway, slightly out of breath, his eyes scanning me quickly. I saw relief flicker across his face.
“Ailsa” my expression hardened instantly.
“What are you doing here?”
He stepped inside quickly, shutting the door behind him.
“I’m getting you out of here”
I stared at him like he had grown a second head.
“You think I’m going anywhere with you?”
His jaw tightened.
“This isn’t the time to argue”
“Oh, I think it is” I snapped. “Last time I trusted you, I woke up drugged” His expression flickered.
“Ailsa…”
“No. Don’t call me like that” I cut him off sharply.
Something dark passed through his eyes.
“I’m trying to save you” I laughed bitterly.
“From what? The only saving I need is from this you and this place” His temper snapped.
“From him!” I stilled.
“What?” Damian stepped closer, his voice lower now.
“Lucian came alone”
The words hit like a physical blow. My breath caught
“No…”
“He’s out there. He’s going to face Lorcan and his entire warrior alone” Damian continued, watching me closely. My heart began to pound violently.
“No, he wouldn’t…”
“He’s doing this for you. He’s willing to burn this entire place to the ground” Damian cut in. Fear flooded in my chest.
Lucian was alone
Outnumbered. My hands trembled.
“He’s going to die. I’m saving you from watching him die” Damian said, his voice softer now, almost coaxing. I panicked.
‘We have to go’ my wolf said.
I swallowed hard. My thoughts spun. No. No, no, no. I couldn’t let that happen. I wouldn’t. I lifted my eues slowly to Damian.
“You’re lying”
“I’m not”
I searched his face, trying to see if this was one of his tricks but he wasn’t smiling and that terrified me more than anything.
“What do you want?” I asked quietly.
“To get you out. Away from all this” he said.
“And Lucian?” His jaw tightened.
“He’s not going to make it”
Something inside me snapped at those words
“No”I said firmly. Damian stepped closer.
“You think he can take on Lorcan here? On his land? Surrounded by his wolves?”
My chest tightened painfully. Every instinct screamed at me to run. To go to Lucian and to fight to beside him.
“I can help you. We can leave now before it’s too late” Damian continued.
My mind raced. I didn’t trust him but if there was a change Lucian was in danger, this is the only way I could leave this room. I lowered my gaze briefly, then looked back up at him.
“Fine”
Relief flashed across his face.
“You’ll come?” I nodded slowly.
“Yes”
Damian reached for my hand. I let him take it.
“Good. We don’t have much time” he said. He turned, pulling me toward the door. I followed without another word. My heart pounded violently in my chest.
As we stepped into the corridor, a presence strong and familiar hit me making me halt. Damian did too.
And then a voice came next. Low and deadly.
“Going somewhere?”
