Chapter 106 Chapter 106
I woke with a dull ache pulsing behind my eyes. It took a moment of awareness to settle, to register the warmth at my back, the rise and fall of Lucian’s chest He was still fast asleep, one arm slung loosely around my waist, his breathing deep and even. I took a moment to admire him while he slept.
The ache in my head sharpened when I shifted slightly and I stilled at once, not wanting to wake Lucian. Carefully, I slipped out from under his arm.
The room was quiet. Pale light filtered through the curtains as I padded across the room and poured myself a cup of water. I drank slowly, hoping it would ease the pressure in my temples. My thoughts were louder than the ache unfortunately.
Last night was vivid in my mind. Lucian’s voice was steady and vulnerable when he spoke about Damian. The way he admitted things and he spoke so freely. And beneath all this, the truth I kept tucked away.
‘It’s time’ my wolf murmured softly. I closed my eyes , my fingers tightening around the cup.
“I know”
‘He deserves to know. He has told you everything about his life’
“I’ll tell him. Just not now..::At the cabin” I whispered under my breath.
I wanted to tell him. The truth had been weighing heavy on mind and Lucian had to know. If he found out about this from anyone other than me, things would not end well. But I wanted to do it away from the pack. I wanted that quiet and space.
A warm arm wrapped around my waist from behind and I got startled. I was so deep in thoughts that I didn’t hear him move. He chuckled quietly, his lips brushing the side of my neck. His lips on my neck, made my belly flutter.
“You’re awake early” he murmured, his voice still rough with sleep.
“What’s going on in that head of yours that dragged you out of sleep?” My shoulders relaxed against him. Then he placed a kiss on my shoulder.
“I have a headache” his grip tightened slightly.
“Should I call the healer?” Concern slipped into his tone at once. I shook my head.
“It’s not that bad” he pressed a kiss just beneath my ear.
“You never tell me when it’s bad” I smiled faintly.
“You always overreact”
“Because you’re terrible at taking care of yourself. What’s on your mind?” He countered lightly.
“Nothing”
I turned in his arms, meeting his gaze. He looked softer in the morning light, his hair slightly tousled, his eyes warm as he stared at me as if looking deep into my soul.
“You don’t want to tell me what’s wrong?”
“There’s nothing wrong”
“I have a surprise for you later” he said suddenly. My brows lifted.
“A surprise?”
“Yes”
“What kind of surprise?” He smirked.
“If I tell you, it defeats the purpose” I narrowed my eyes at him. I didn’t like surprises one bit.
“You want me to beg you?”
“It won’t change a thing if you beg me. You’ll have to wait to find out”
“You’re enjoying this right?”
“Immensely” he leaned in, stealing a brief kiss before pulling back.
“Come shower with me”
The invitation was alluring but I knew we would never leave the bath tub if we took a bath together. So I laughed softly.
“You’ll be late”
“Worth it”
“Tempting” I said brushing my thumb along his jaw. “But no. You have to work. Go” he sighed dramatically then kissed me again, slower this time.
“Fine. But later, you’re mine”
“I’ve always been” I said without thinking.
Something tender crossed his face before he dashed into the bathroom. I turned back to the window and gazed at the grounds. Trying not to think again.
After Lucian left, I took my time preparing for the day. The headache faded into something manageable. I decided to visit the children again. I found Lina in the corridor, she looked like someone searching for something.
“There you are” Lina said, her hands on her hips, her eyes bright.
“Were you looking for me?”
“No and yes” my brows lifted.
“I’m not looking for you right now, I saw a rat and was chasing it. You vanished two days ago. I haven’t seen you since then” I laughed
“That wasn’t intentional. I was occupied”
“Oh…” Lina raised a brow knowingly. “Would it perhaps be the Alpha?” She teased.
“My body had…needs” I said delicately. Lina grinned.
“Say no more. It didn’t occur to me at first but now that you’ve said it, I totally get it” we both laughed.
“I should have come yesterday to see you but I slept off in the library”
“Did you fall asleep reading a book?” I nodded.
“What do you have planned today?” I asked her.
“I’m supposed to do the laundry and dishes. Why?”
“I want to visit the children and I was hoping we could go together”
“Sure. Let me just round up”
I waited for her to finish. I also noticed some things that needed to be changed for the servants. I was going to bring that up with Lucian when I saw him. Lina and I took some sweets along with us as we visited the children.
The moment we arrived, the space filled with laughter and rubbing feet. Small arms wrapped around my waist, voices overlapping as they greeted us.
“You’re pretty”
“You’re nice”
Lina and I shared sweets to them and they thanked us. Their mothers were welcoming and greeted me with warmth. We played games, we sang, listened to stories, braided hair. I laughed until my sides hurt. For a few hours, I thought about nothing except what would make the children happy.
We spent most of the day there and when it was time to leave, the sun had already set. We went back to the pack house after promising the children to come back. Lina and I parted ways when we got to the kitchen. I was on my way to my room when a guard stopped me.
“Luna” he bowed. “The Alpha asked me to bring you somewhere” he said respectfully.
“The Alpha? Where is he if I may ask?”
“He said not to tell you even if you insisted” my pulse raced.
I was skeptical about following the guard, he could do something bad to me. Then I demented Lucian’s words, ‘I have a surprise for you later’
Could this be it?
“Is it outside the pack house?” The guard nodded.
“What’s your name?” I asked in case anything happened to me.
“Sam”
“Okay Sam. Take me to where the Alpha is” he bowed.
“This way, Luna”
The guard led me away from the pack grounds, down a path I hadn’t been before. I tried to memorize the way and possible exits incase this didn’t end well. When we stopped before a small cabin, he bowed and left me there. I stared at the door, my heart pounding.
I opened the door slowly, the moment I stepped inside, my breath caught. Roses and candles filled the room. Soft light shone across the wooden walls, I moved further into the room. A smile curved my lips, emotion swelling in my chest.
“Do you like it?” Lucian’s voice came from behind. I turned, my eyes shining.
“You did this?” He stepped closer, his gaze fixed on my face.
“I won’t take all the credit, I got a little help but I was the one that chose the color. Now, back to my initial question”
“I love it…it’s so beautiful” a huge grin spread across his face.
“I told you, you’d like it” he said with a smile.
“I didn’t doubt you for a minute” I reached for him without hesitation.
Lucian’s eyes darkened. It made my throat tighten. His fingers brushed a loose curl from my cheeks. The touch was barely there, yet it sent a shiver through me.
“What have you planned for us?” I asked softly.
“I planned to make love to you all through the night” he said with a smirk. I blushed.
“What about food? We’ll need food to survive” his thumb stroked the back of my hand.
“We’ll eat after we are exhausted from making love” I frowned.
“I’m kidding. We’ll eat first, then make love”
He guided me further inside where a table for two was set. He pulled out a chair for me and I laughed at the old fashioned gesture, my heart fluttering at how attentive he was being.
“You’re spoiling me”
“I should’ve done it sooner” he leaned down and pressed a kiss to my knuckles. My breath caught.
We dug into the food and talked for a while. I told him about my visit to the children and how happy they were. We finished our food and moved to the sofa.
“I never thought I’d bring someone here. Until you” he confessed.
Butterflies fluttered in my belly, I was honored to be the only person he had brought here.
He drew me into his arms. His forehead resting against mine, our breaths mingling.
“Stay with me tonight” he murmured.
“I’m here”
