Chapter 105 Chapter 105

Chapter 105 Chapter 105
Lucian's voice cut through the corridor. Damian let go of my hand instantly. I turned, my heart hammering, relief and tension crashing through me as Lucian stood there, his gaze sharp and assessing. His eyes flicked to my hand and then to Damian. The air around us shifted.

"What was going on?" He asked, his voice was too calm. It was just like he was golfing back from going off. I watched Damian straighten, shifting uncomfortably.

"I just wanted to speak with the Luna, Alpha"

I was surprised how fast his voice changed to something so soft. When a few minutes ago, it seemed like he was going to harm me.

"You wanted to talk…holding her hand?" Lucian's voice sharpened.

“I-I don’t know when I grabbed her hand” Damian lied through his teeth. I almost snorted.

I felt it then, the anger in Lucian’s posture, the way his fists clenched at his side. I stepped closer to Lucian.

“It’s nothing, Lucian. He wasn’t trying to hurt me” I lied deliberately to save Damian’s ass.

I knew what Lucian was capable of doing. I knew what would happen if I tell him Damian was trying to harass me, because that is exactly what he was trying to do. Lucian would kill him. He wouldn’t punish or warn him.

This was the last time I would be giving Damian any grace, I would report him if he tried something like this again. Lucian’s eyes slid to my face, searching for the truth. For a heartbeat, I thought he might mind link me with the way he looked at me but he didn’t.

“Why are you here instead of at your post?” Damian swallowed.

“I apologize, Alpha. I was on my way back”

“That is not an answer to my question!”

“I-I…Ronan sent me to get something” Damian said and I scoffed inwardly. He was using Ronan to cover up

“I’m sorry Alpha, Luna”

Damian’s eyes flicked to mine as he addressed me as Luna, something unreadable there before he bowed stiffly and retreated down the corridor without another word. Silence followed him.

My nerves buzzed uncontrollably under my skin. I turned slowly to Lucian. He was watching me now, his jaw tight and his expression unreadable. He was not angry neither was he calm.

He looked suspicious.

“What were you doing here?” He asked. I folded my hands together to keep them from shaking.

“I was in the library. I fell asleep”

“Through the day?” I shook my head. He asked like he didn’t believe me. He was studying my face.

“I’ve been looking for you” guilt flared inside me.

“I didn’t mean to worry you. I was reading a book before I fell asleep” his eyes lingered on my face a moment longer before he exhaled.

“Come, let’s go and eat”

He took my hand, his grip was firm. I knew he wasn’t letting the matter go easily. We walked in silence back to our room, the quietness disturbing me.

Dinner arrived quickly. Lucian dismissed the servants with a nod then sat across from me. I picked at my food, my appetite dulled not comfortable with the silence. Finally, I looked up at him.

“Say it” I murmured. His brows furrowed. “What you are thinking. Just say it” he paused.

“I didn’t like the way he was holding you. It looked to intimate” he said. I knew that disturbed him.

“Lucian, it was nothing serious. He held my hand by mistake”

“I’ve seen the way he looks at you, Ailsa. He wants you” the jealousy in his tone made my heart flutter.

“There’s only one person I want. And it’s you”

And that was the truth. He was the only one I wanted and I thought of. He was everything to me but he didn’t need to know that part.

“I wanted to rip him apart when I first came. I just held back because I didn’t want you to see that part of me”

“I knew you were restraining yourself. I could see it in your body movement and your eyes. Thank you for not doing anything drastic that you would regret”

“I wouldn’t have regretted it. It would have given me satisfaction. I don’t like other males looking at you or touching you” he said possessively and I smiled.

“I don’t like other women looking at you or touching you either”

“Fair enough. If I could lock you in a tower where only I could see you then I would do that” I laughed at that.

“I mean it. I know I can’t do it but I want to have you all to myself”

“You have me all to yourself. You are not sharing me with anyone”

“Damn right, I won’t share you with anyone” we ate our food in silence after that until Lucian spoke up.

“I remember the first time I saw you with Damian” my brows knitted.

“The first time?” A faint smile, tugged at his lips.

“You were laughing at something he said. It bothered me so much at that time because you had never smiled at me and yet you were smiling with him. I nearly tore his head off for smiling at you” a soft laugh escaped my mouth.

I remembered the day, he had caught Damian and I outside at night.

“You were unbearable that day. You were trying so hard not to give out that I was your mate”

“Yes, I was indirectly marking my territory” he said.

We shared a small laugh, the tension easing away completely.

“You glared at me like I’d committed a crime for existing and yet you still wanted me”

“Honestly, I was trying to push you away so that I won’t end up getting hurt again. But the moment, I noticed the some warriors interest in you. I had to claim you”

“You were really an ass at the beginning”

“I know. You didn’t care who I was and you always spoke your mind. I don’t think anyone had ever done that. That was what drew me to you and the fact that you wanted to train and prove yourself” he said, amusement flickering in his eyes.

“You had come clean floors when I first got here. I was happy when you told me to fight and prove myself”

“I won’t lie. You a really good with weapons. How did you learn how to fight?”

“My father. He thought me how to fight”

“He must have been a really good warrior”‘I nodded, my lips quirking as I thought about my parents for the first time in a long while.

“I miss him” the words left my mouth before I could stop it.

“What happened to him?”

“He was killed”

“I’m so sorry. I would have loved to meet him” I scoffed.

“It’s been a long time”

“This is the first time I’ve heard you speak of someone. And it makes me think, I don’t really know anything about you” I freeze with the fork in my hand.

“What do you want to know?” I asked trying to steady my voice.

“When you were caught at the border, I assumed you were a rogue for a long time. And you never disputed that fact. Didn’t you ever live in a pack?”

“I thought I’ve told you this before”

I was uncomfortable and I was trying to change the topic. I didn’t want to slip up and call the Silver Moon pack.

“Did you? I can’t remember us ever having that conversation”

“I lived in a pack with my parents and that’s where my father taught me to fight. After they died, things became hard and I had to leave”

“You had no other relatives? What was the name of your pack?”

“My parents died when I was very little and I couldn’t remember ever meeting an extended family. I didn’t leave the pack immediately. I stayed for years before I left” he hummed.

Lucian took a bite of his food before looking up.

“Let’s not spoil our dinner with past memories that hurt. Let me tell you about my day” I nodded quickly. Anything to change the topic.

“I spent most of my time buried in paperwork. The elders are still a thorn in my flesh. I’ve already made it clear that I won’t do their bidding. And then there is a certain Alpha that keeps getting on my nerves”

“Which Alpha is that?”

“Lorcan” the fork fell out of my hand as I heard that name. Lucian noticed looked at me.

“Is everything alright, Ailsa?”

“Y-yes, yes. Sure why not. What did he do?”

“Your reaction when I said that was sudden. Are you sure everything is fine”

“Yes. Continue what you were saying”

“It happened back at the Alpha’s meeting. We had a fight. I couldn’t tell you because you were not well. The other alphas had to separate us. I hadn’t thought about the fight until I saw the elders letters”

I reached across the table, brushing my fingers against his. He turned his hand, lacing our fingers together.

We finished eating slowly, talking about different things.

Later as we lay side by side, Lucian’s arms heavy around my waist and his breathing evened, my mind drifted back to our discussion at the table.

His fight with Lorcan.

I hoped he hadn’t suspected anything when I dropped my spoon. I was so careless then.

‘The truth is going to come out soon’ my wolf whispered.

I had to tell Lucian before he finds out himself. Maybe, I would tell him when we were away from the pack.

As I closed my eyes, I prayed to the goddess to give me more time.
