Chapter 46 Truth Unveiled
I can’t answer Idris anymore as Astrid pulls me away from the wolf, who starts walking away from me.
“I am not a goddess, I’m just a girl from the other world…” I whisper as Astrid keeps pulling me along.
“If we stay here any longer, no one in Nalva Avirife will be left alive. Kaizer isn’t thinking straight, he’ll destroy everything he sees in the palace.”
Astrid runs fast, and Soren runs too in his human form.
How can I keep up? I’m not used to a vampire’s speed. Even though I know I can’t catch up, I run after them anyway. When Astrid notices I’m too slow, she matches her pace to mine.
“Can’t you run fast?”
“This is all I can do,” I answer softly.
“Wolf! Carry her!” she shouts loudly at Soren, who’s running ahead of us.
When he hears Astrid’s voice, he slows down until we catch up.
“What am I? A pet?” he says irritably.
“I thought you’d rape me later?” Astrid asks, making Soren’s eyes widen.
I’m shocked at how the two of them talk.
In just seconds, Soren turns into his wolf form. His fur is brown, not like Idris’s gray.
“Get on,” Astrid says quickly.
I don’t argue with them, and once I climb onto Soren’s back, he and Astrid run off at full speed.
As they run together, Astrid suddenly speaks.
“Do you want to know why I said Kaizer got close to Cosette because of you?”
I don’t answer right away. I don’t know if I’m ready to hear it.
“Silence means yes,” she says again.
“Cosette was known all over the Igor empire for her amazing abilities…”
Abilities?
“She was known as the blue fire’s daughter. She had some of the blue fire’s powers, Saera…”
“Can she see the future?” I ask confused.
“Sometimes, but not as well as the blue fire. But the ability vampires admired most was her power to see, recognize, and talk to people from your world, specifically those who have a vampire mate.”
Her power is strange.
“She was the cupid for the two different worlds,” Astrid continues.
“Did she have this power since birth?” I ask.
“Nope, she only got it when she was brought to the kingdom on the verge of death from a serious illness. Back then, the blue fire was alive and reading the future. The whole kingdom was shocked when the blue fire wrapped around her body and gave her a new life. The fire rarely does this, only for chosen vampires. She must have had something important to do back then.”
This world has so many mysteries.
“But from what the Igor council talked about, Cosette’s life wouldn’t last long, it was only borrowed from the blue fire. So when she died, no one was surprised. Except Kaizer and Larkin.”
My chest tightens again at what she says.
“I’m not done yet, Saera, I’m not even halfway there,” she says flatly when she notices my reaction.
“Do you know what else she could do? She could bring destined vampires meant for the four women to your world.”
I just stare blankly at what she says.
“Long before the blue fire read the futures of all Lancaster men in front of Igor Wisteria, it already appeared in Kaizer’s dreams. That’s how he found out he was the destined prince, not Larkin.”
I can’t speak at what she says. So Kaizer already knew me from what I saw in the past.
“Do you get what I mean now? Since the whole Wisteria kingdom expected Larkin to be the destined man, the palace asked Cosette for help to get your attention from your world. But because Kaizer already knew he was the destined prince, he kept Cosette away from Larkin in any way he could. By keeping Cosette away from Larkin, Larkin couldn’t get a chance to communicate with you.”
I look at Astrid with a frown. I’m confused again.
“But I heard voices before my 18th birthday,” I say confused.
“That wasn’t Larkin, that was Kaizer. The blue fire had already marked him back then.”
“I don’t understand. I saw that Larkin loved Cosette. Why would he choose to meet a woman from another world if he already loved someone else?”
“Because of responsibility, Saera. He’s the first-born royal prince, he can’t be a disappointment,” Astrid answers quickly.
“Why didn’t Kaizer just say right away that he was the destined vampire? Why did he have to ruin Larkin and Cosette’s relationship?”
Why was this Kaizer’s solution?!
“Kaizer is known as a psychopath vampire. If Gavin is the crazy vampire of Aetherio, Kaizer is Wisteria’s. He knew no one would believe him if he said he was the destined prince. Everyone was expecting Larkin, Saera.”
Even in other empires, Kaizer’s name doesn’t have a good reputation among vampires.
“Can’t the blue fire confirm whatever Kaizer says?”
“The blue fire only reads the future once every five years, Saera. It showed Kaizer in his dreams a year before reading the Lancaster men’s futures. And on the day of the reading, after confirming Kaizer was the destined prince, the blue fire immediately licked his back to mark him as a true destined prince, the prince who would wait and crave your blood.”
I can’t help but clench my hands in Soren’s fur.
Astrid is right, I have no right to judge Kaizer because I haven’t seen even half of what happened in the past. I wipe away the tears forming in my eyes again. Even before I came to this world, Kaizer already did so much for me. Damn.
“Then everything was a disaster. Especially when Kaizer started craving and looking for your blood, I’m sure you know what happened next.”
I nod slightly at her.
“The bad thing here is Cosette fell for Kaizer. And she died loving my brother. He feels guilty about Cosette’s death, guilty about Larkin, guilty about everything.”
Now I understand why he wants to bring Cosette back to life.
It was not because of him, it was for his brother. I didn’t even let him explain.
Yes, I am so cruel, Kaizer. I am cruel. I can’t do anything but let my tears fall.
“But do you know what the worst part is? Larkin didn’t say a single word to Kaizer about everything that happened. He stayed calm like an ideal king, but I know he’s in pain. Kaizer tried to get Larkin to take his anger out on him, he challenged him to fights and more, but Larkin did nothing to him.”
I don’t know how to feel about Larkin anymore.
“But do you know what Larkin said to Kaizer that I’ll never forget?”
I hope you’re the first-born, Kaizer. I’m tired of this, I’m tired of everything, brother…
I was about to ask when I suddenly fly off Soren’s back. I quickly feel myself sinking into cold water. I swim up fast and see Astrid now riding on Soren’s back.
“Take a bath, Kaizer won’t like your smell. We’ll go ahead, and I hope our family history clears up your clouded mind.”
I don’t answer as Soren runs off with Astrid riding him. But before they disappear from my sight, they both come back.
“My brother is a selfish psychopath vampire who’s damn in love with you, Saera. Love him, Saera, love him the way he loves you…”
