Chapter 160: Juniper's Background
Juniper was a bit nervous when she asked the question!
She couldn't quite explain why, but she just felt that the boss of Galactic Aurora Collective Lab had appeared too timely, and it was such a coincidence that they brought videos and experimental data.
Thinking about how the other party had completed the experiments and made thorough preparations before coming to Phoenix Lab, Juniper felt admiration for that boss whose identity she didn't know!
Someone who could prepare so thoroughly must not be an ordinary person.
Alkaid said cheerfully, "Our boss's code name in the lab is Alioth. If you find it familiar, it's because a sci paper you submitted before referenced data from our boss's research."
Alioth!
There wasn't anyone in the scientific research community who hadn't heard that name!
Being able to publish ten consecutive sci papers in core journals, each one a high-scoring masterpiece, had almost made them model examples in their research circle.
Of course Juniper had referenced Alioth's data when writing papers. She was even a devoted fan of Alioth.
"Juniper, our boss thinks highly of your abilities too. If you're interested, our lab welcomes you."
Juniper's face lit up with excitement!
"Alioth is my idol. Every time I read her literature, it gives me an enlightening feeling and lots of inspiration. I can say that without her literature, I wouldn't be where I am today. It would be my honor to join Alioth's lab, but not right now."
Alkaid raised an eyebrow. "Since our boss is your idol, why won't you agree to join your idol's lab?"
Juniper turned to look at the large base behind her. This land held not just her responsibilities, but also her beliefs!
Her gaze was calm and determined, her tone confident and resolute.
"Because my country needs me."
"I was being narrow-minded. When our boss left, she said you could come to Galactic Aurora Collective whenever you need to, and everyone could exchange ideas. It's just that our boss won't be in Tranquil County these next couple of days."
"Great, that's wonderful, thank you to your boss!"
Juniper rubbed her hands together, a bit embarrassed. "Next time, could I get Alioth's autograph? I really admire her!"
Alkaid agreed seriously, and as soon as she hung up, she called Catherine.
"Boss, Juniper is starting to suspect your identity. That brain of hers really doesn't seem to be from the Windsor family - she's too smart. If she didn't have her beliefs, I'd want her to join us! She even wants your autograph!"
Catherine was a bit speechless.
Was there any possibility that she was also part of the Windsor family?
When Alkaid said Juniper and the Windsor family were on different intellectual levels, wasn't she insulting her?
"If you want to go back to Faceless Ones to sweep floors, just say so."
"Goodbye!"
On the other side.
Juniper contentedly put away her phone and walked back to the lab.
Evander was putting the test tube in his hand on the separator. He glanced at Juniper, somewhat dissatisfied. "In such a hurry - where did you go?"
"Evander, do you know the boss of Galactic Aurora Collective?"
"Are you stupid? Who in scientific research doesn't know her! Do you think Galactic Aurora Collective could exist as an independent research lab outside all countries and have such high international status if the boss was simple? Could that be an ordinary person?"
"Didn't the country try to recruit her?"
Evander looked at Juniper with a complicated expression.
"They tried many times, but she said our lab's equipment was too outdated, and that scientific research isn't her whole life, so she refused. You know about the land-air amphibious transport technology that succeeded a few months ago, right? She provided the research data for that."
Simply put, the boss of Galactic Aurora Collective didn't think much of their lab equipment at all.
Phoenix Lab's research direction had basically nothing to do with land-air amphibious transport technology, yet the data was also provided by Alioth!
Juniper's eyes were full of admiration. "Worthy of being my idol!"
Evander shook his head and observed the experimental sample in front of him.
"She's very capable, but you're not bad either. With your talent, you'll go far in the future."
This was the first time Juniper had heard Evander praise her since joining Phoenix Lab. She looked wary and backed up several steps.
"Evander, be normal! You're old enough to be my dad! This won't do! Your career might be at its end, but I still have a bright future ahead!"
"I'm really not interested in old men!"
Evander couldn't hold back anymore. Looking at Juniper, he shouted angrily, "Get lost! Don't be in the same lab as me - you annoy me just looking at you!"
Juniper felt reassured seeing him lose his temper and patted her chest with relief.
"That's more normal. When you suddenly praised me, I felt something was off!"
Watching her leave the lab with light steps, Evander's expression gradually changed, his handsome scholarly face showing loneliness and helplessness.
He took out the pocket watch he always carried with him, looking at the old photo inside with gentle eyes.
If this photo didn't obviously look aged, even people from the Windsor family would think it was an artistic photo of Juniper!
Evander's fingers gently traced the face in the photo as he smiled bitterly and talked to himself.
"Angela, if I tell her the truth, will she resent me? The Windsor family treasures her like a jewel - what should I do?"
"She's wonderful, truly wonderful, even better than we imagined our future child would be back then. Smart, sensible, and heartbreaking."
Last time when Juniper said she was different from him, that she wasn't a Windsor family child and her parents didn't want her, Evander's heart felt like it had been punched hard, hurting so much he couldn't breathe.
The woman in the photo had curved eyes and a beauty mark at the corner of her eye identical to Juniper's, making people think of the moon in the sky.
But his moon had forever become a crescent moon, with no possibility of being full again, and could never give him an answer!
Bright Heal Hospital.
Marcus gripped his cane, looking at Lila lying on the hospital bed in a confused state, his brows furrowed.
Gavin stood beside him. "She can't speak complete sentences now and is confused. I'm afraid she can't tell you what you want to know."
"When will she get better?"
"We'll do our best, but her dementia is severe. She can't recognize people anymore. You should go back first."
Marcus couldn't get the truth he wanted and felt unwilling, but seeing Lila's crazy state, he also felt impatient!
After all these years, he and Lila had reached the point of mutual disgust.
Lila kept mumbling incoherently.
"He's my son, all mine."
Marcus stood up with Bethany's support and walked out of the hospital room.
"Since Esme is Lila's biological granddaughter, go find out who Lila's son is."
"Yes, I understand."
Bethany hesitated but still asked, "Dad, who is my mom really?"
Marcus closed his eyes. His throat felt bitter. When he opened them again, his gaze was as sharp as a hawk's, his whole body radiating authority.
"Go find Samuel. I must get to the bottom of this!"
"Okay, I'll contact Samuel right away. He said he's been traveling to an island these past few days to find inspiration for his new book and isn't home?"
