Chapter 64: How About You Divorce My Mom
The porridge had been kept in an insulated container and was still scalding hot after two hours. When it splashed onto Aurora's wrist, it immediately turned a large area of her skin red.
Seeing this, Lila didn't feel she had done anything wrong. Instead, she let out a strange, low laugh.
"That's what you get for trying to hurt me. Get out! Get out now!"
Tears welled up in Aurora's eyes. Fighting back the pain, she walked out of the room and bumped right into Catherine, who had just come from Marcus's room.
Catherine had heard Aurora was with Lila and worried Lila might give her a hard time, so she rushed over after giving medicine to Marcus and Felix.
"Mom, what happened to you?"
Seeing the porridge on Aurora's wrist, Catherine quickly pulled her to the bathroom, rinsed it with cold water, and applied some ointment she had made herself.
Aurora had been holding it together, but seeing Catherine care for her so attentively broke her heart.
"Catherine, is your grandmother sick in the head or what! She called me over, then made things so difficult for me! She called at 5:30 in the morning demanding I bring porridge. I stood in her room for three hours, and then she accused me of poisoning her!"
Catherine carefully applied the ointment to Aurora's wound.
This was an ointment she had developed herself. Fortunately, the porridge had cooled down after a few hours and wasn't as hot as when freshly made. A wound like this would heal in a week.
Catherine breathed a sigh of relief and took Aurora to Marcus's room.
Marcus immediately knew what had happened.
"Aurora, what's going on? Did Lila bully you again?"
"Dad, you have to stand up for me!"
"All these years, since I married into the Windsor family, what have I done wrong? The Windsor family is a prominent family, but the Martinez family isn't shabby either!"
"Why does Mom always make things so difficult for me? Does she still want Bethany to marry her niece? Just tell me, and I'll divorce Bethany!"
Marcus looked a bit embarrassed.
Even when they were young, Lila had been extremely dissatisfied with Aurora.
Back then, Lila was determined to have her niece marry Bethany. The Windsor family was educated and sophisticated—how could they allow cousins to marry?
Plus, Bethany had fallen head over heels for the gentle and beautiful Aurora at school and practically lived at the Martinez family home!
Marcus saw that the Martinez family was also well-educated, and Aurora clearly would make a good wife, so he agreed to the marriage.
Lila always felt that Aurora had blocked her niece's good marriage and prevented them from strengthening family ties!
All these years, she had made Aurora's life difficult over all sorts of nonsense.
Marcus was busy with work and could only scold Lila occasionally, but she thought Aurora was tattling on her and even asked if Aurora had her eye on Marcus and wanted to be Bethany's stepmother.
After going back and forth like this, Aurora was too embarrassed to complain anymore, and Marcus felt humiliated too.
Bethany somehow got wind of what was happening and came sliding in from outside, dropping to his knees and hugging Aurora's legs!
Hugging and crying at the same time!
"Aurora! You can't divorce me! You're the only one I'll ever love! You can't leave me! If you divorce me, I'll jump out of this hospital room right now and kill myself!"
Catherine and Marcus fell silent.
Bethany didn't care at all that Catherine and Marcus were present. He only knew that if he came any later, he'd lose his wife!
"Baby! You're my one and only, my life!"
"Your mother always bullies me like this. I have to divorce you!"
Seeing Aurora's bright red wrist, Bethany panicked too.
He looked at Marcus and stammered, "Dad, why don't you divorce Mom instead? That way Aurora won't be my mom's daughter-in-law anymore. You can't let me lose my wife! You don't need a wife anyway, so why not get divorced?"
Marcus whacked him with his cane and cursed.
"Get lost! Even if I divorced your mother, you'd still be her son, and Aurora would still be her daughter-in-law!"
Aurora struggled to pull her leg free from Bethany's embrace and cried, "I'm going back to my own family! Goodbye!"
Bethany quickly chased after her, calling out "baby" over and over.
Marcus felt embarrassed too and waved his hand dismissively. "Don't worry about them. Your parents are always like this. Every time your mom fights with your grandmother, she goes back to her family. I heard your grandparents recently came back? Have you seen them?"
Catherine nodded obediently. "I saw Grandpa. Grandma will be home this weekend."
Marcus let out a long sigh.
"When you go back, take something to Samuel. Consider it my apology. Your mother has really had it rough all these years. If it weren't for the conflict between your grandmother and your mother, maybe you wouldn't have been lost back then."
Catherine was curious. She sat beside Marcus and massaged his calves.
Her pressure was just right, making Marcus feel much more comfortable.
Catherine was so good!
Look how thoughtful she was!
"What happened back then? What do my grandmother and mother's conflicts have to do with me?"
"Back then, your mother had a difficult pregnancy with you and had to stay in the hospital. Your grandmother said she was being delicate and wouldn't let her stay at our family's hospital. She made her go to that Vinehill Hospital in the countryside, saying she had connections there who could look after your mother. Later, there was a fire at Vinehill Hospital and Angel's Haven Orphanage, everything was chaotic, and that's how the babies got switched!"
So Aurora ended up at a place like Vinehill Hospital because of Lila?
"Why Vinehill Hospital?"
"I'm not sure about that either. Vinehill Hospital's medical care back then wasn't as good as our family's hospital, but it was still decent, so your mother agreed. Looking back now, if she hadn't agreed then, you wouldn't have suffered!"
"I didn't suffer."
Marcus smiled, pleased with Catherine's understanding!
"Catherine, I'm getting old and can't handle many things anymore, but the situation between your grandmother and your mother—the Windsor family really wronged your mother! If they have any bigger conflicts in the future, the Windsor family will stand by your mother! Do you understand?"
"I understand."
Gavin pushed open the door and walked in.
"Mr. Windsor, Esme fell into the water. She's in the ICU now for observation."
Marcus was surprised. "How did she fall into the water out of nowhere?"
"Philip said Esme wanted to learn to swim and tried swimming from Imperia City harbor back to The Windsor Mansion, but she choked on water and nearly drowned."
Catherine was speechless.
Was it really okay for Philip to make up stories like this?
Marcus's eyes flickered, his shrewd face showing some contemplation.
"Keep a close watch on her. Don't worry about anything else."
"Okay."
