Chapter 208: Catherine, Save Me
"Esme, what have you been up to lately?"
Esme was aching all over - not just from the burns on her leg, but also from being thrown by George!
"I'm recovering from injuries. Don't you know about the fire at the Hughes family? Why are you calling me now?"
Esme felt jealous thinking about how the Windsor family treated her so cruelly, yet were nice to Catherine and Emilia.
Even if the Windsor family thought Catherine was their daughter and treated her well, what about Emilia?
She had seen George speaking to Emilia in such a gentle tone!
Was it just because Emilia was close to Catherine?
The Windsor family never considered her feelings. If they had, she wouldn't have had to go through all that trouble to get to the Hughes Villa.
"Esme, you're injured? Is it serious? If you don't try harder, there'll be no place for you in the Windsor family at all!"
Esme said bitterly, "When did I ever have a place in the Windsor family? They don't care about me at all!"
Whether it was Catherine who shared their blood or Juniper who didn't, they all occupied the Windsor family's hearts.
They were all too biased!
"Esme, go talk to Aurora. She'll definitely take you in."
Go to Aurora?
Esme hesitated, unable to make up her mind.
"Forget it. Mom doesn't care about me at all. She only has eyes for that Catherine!"
Lucy lowered her voice. "Esme, I'm talking about your birth mother, not Aurora. Aurora is blind and can't see how good you are, but your real mother definitely won't abandon you."
Lloyd had indeed never mentioned her mother!
Esme's eyes suddenly lit up.
"You know my mom? Tell me who she is, quick!"
"I'll give you your mother's phone number. Contact her yourself. Once you explain everything clearly, she'll definitely feel sorry for you."
Esme endured the pain in her body, extremely excited!
"Okay!"
She put away her phone and went to the hospital where the Hughes family members were being treated.
Before she could enter the ward, several police officers at the door stopped her.
"No unauthorized entry. They're all serious criminals. Are you from the Hughes family?"
Serious criminals!
Esme almost bit her tongue and quickly left without another word!
She needed to stay far away from the Hughes family to avoid getting implicated somehow.
Inside the ward, Anthony was barely breathing, but at least they'd managed to save him. He could still hear people talking around him.
His fingers moved slightly, as if he wanted to say something, but with the tube in his throat, he couldn't make a sound.
The police read out a long list of the Hughes family's crimes beside him, even down to specific dates and details!
Anthony's eyes widened in shock.
They had cleaned up all those matters so thoroughly - how could they be exposed?
Moreover, the police knew everything so clearly, with all the details laid out.
The police knew Anthony's condition. After reading the list, they put away the files and walked out with the doctor.
Before leaving, Anthony heard the doctor speaking.
"He has large amounts of residual Vitality Pills in his system. He probably won't be able to cooperate with the police investigation. He doesn't have much time left!"
"Better to die in the hospital anyway. Otherwise, he'd just be executed."
Anthony's eyes bulged in disbelief. He wanted to get up and demand answers, but was powerless!
Too shocked, he passed out directly!
Heritage Storage Depot.
The empty bomb shelter was like a monster with its mouth wide open, hiding countless evils in its invisible depths.
Emilia stood in front of the shelter, looking at George before her.
Her hair was tied up high, and she held out George's jacket to him.
"George, here's your jacket back. Thanks for taking care of me. I won't be going back to the hospital."
George didn't take the jacket. His expression was quite unpleasant.
"You want to die? Think you're lucky? Just got out of a fire scene, and now you're getting mixed up with gangsters? If you don't have money for the hospital, I'll pay. Come back with me!"
Emilia blinked. "I already paid for the hospital stay. Thank you."
Seeing Emilia's indifferent attitude, George felt annoyed, though he didn't know where his anger was coming from.
He was just too dedicated to medicine - that's why he bothered with such things!
"Fine, whatever! Throw that jacket away. I don't want things other people have worn."
Emilia didn't get angry. The corners of her mouth curved up slightly as she watched George return to his car and drive away.
A Blade of Dusk member came up behind her.
"Boss, they said they'll only follow you if you win once in the underground fight ring. Isn't that making things difficult for you? Should we go back and negotiate, ask them to change the condition?"
Although Emilia had learned some self-defense from the Blade of Dusk members since childhood, actually fighting in underground matches was far beyond her abilities.
But to control the underworld, she could only use methods the underworld recognized.
For those people, looking after Emilia was one thing, but making her their leader was another matter entirely.
Why should they submit to some young woman?
"It's fine. I'll give it a try. Worst case, I get beaten to death. Not a big deal."
"Boss!"
Emilia smiled, looking at the jacket in her hands.
"If I still have a breath left, remember to send me to George's hospital for emergency treatment. I only trust his medical skills."
Emilia's expression was calm, as if she didn't care about this matter, yet also as if she'd made up her mind - it was somewhat unsettling to watch.
Her subordinate knew Emilia's stubborn temperament and didn't try to persuade her further. He just nodded and left.
Once he was gone, Emilia quickly pulled out her phone and called Catherine.
"Catherine! Emergency! Save me! They want me to fight in the underground ring next door. They'll only listen to me if I win. But I don't know how! If I get beaten to death, how embarrassing would that be!"
Catherine was silent for a moment. "The underground fight ring near Heritage Storage Depot?"
"Yes! I'm about to die! Does the Windsor family know anyone at that ring? Can they go easy on me during the fight?"
Some people appear calm on the surface but are actually panicking inside.
Catherine glanced at a message on her phone. There was a post on the underground ring's forum specifically calling her out to fight, offering a very tempting price.
"Wait for me. I'll come take you to see."
"The Windsor family really has connections there? That's great!"
Emilia felt relieved. She was saved now.
Catherine put away her phone and looked at the sky outside. The Windsor family members were already resting. Leaving through the front door now would wake them up.
She nimbly flipped down from her balcony, pulled up her hoodie to hide her figure, and disappeared into the night.
The moment she jumped down, Alexander's face suddenly flashed through her mind.
Catherine suddenly felt that having someone lying on her balcony watching her might not be so bad after all.
