Chapter 204 Esme Provokes Emilia and Gets Beaten
Alexander's hand gently lifted the curtain of Catherine's room.
He leaned slightly against the balcony edge, surrounded by potted plants Aurora had carefully selected. Each pot of flowers bloomed vigorously, showing off their abundant vitality.
The floral scent mixed with some strange smell seeped in, making Catherine frown slightly.
"I just missed you. I was passing by and wanted to see you. I saw you were busy, so I didn't go in to disturb you."
Alexander's face showed visible tiredness, and his smile carried a bit more laziness.
The indoor light was blocked by heavy curtains, making Alexander under the moonlight seem mysteriously alluring.
Catherine took a step toward him and stopped at the window.
"You have your own business, and I need to be busy for a while too. The Howard Group has several merger cases recently. If I didn't come to find you, would you miss me?"
The Howard Group had too many things going on. Every day required signing documents that piled up like a small mountain. It was natural for Alexander to be busy.
"I'll try my best."
Alexander smiled with satisfaction. "That's good. When I'm done with work, I want to tell you a story."
"What story?"
"A story about when we first met! Maybe you've forgotten, but I remember everything!"
After saying this, Alexander looked deeply at Catherine, reaching out as if wanting to touch her face so close to him, but then pulled his hand back.
"Good night."
Alexander turned and left, nimbly climbing down from the balcony. But he didn't return to the neighboring Sunlit Mansion. In the night, the sound of a car engine starting could be heard.
Alexander looked once more at Catherine's room. The balcony surrounded by roses was like a fairy tale dream.
The smile disappeared from Alexander's face, replaced by an icy cold expression. He said in a deep voice, "Let's go."
"Mr. Howard, aren't you going to tell Catherine what you're going to do?"
"There's no need. If Catherine has me in her heart, I don't need to do anything for her to care. If she doesn't, it's also a good thing that she won't worry."
He hoped his girl would have sweet dreams tonight, without worrying about him one bit.
Hospital, single-patient care room.
Esme, leaning on a crutch, finally found out which room Emilia was in and slipped in when the nurse wasn't paying attention.
Looking at Emilia lying in bed, Esme's face was full of mockery!
"Ms. Hughes, you never thought you'd have a day like this, did you? How ridiculous!"
Emilia put down the comic she was reading and looked up at Esme.
"I don't treat you like a human being, so you really decide not to act like one, huh?"
Esme didn't expect Emilia to still have the guts to mock her in this condition!
She sneered, "You really still think you're the high and mighty daughter of the Hughes family. Now the Hughes family is bankrupt! You're lying in bed unable to get up, and you might even be disfigured! You're worse off than me now!"
Emilia raised an eyebrow and mocked, "You're so ugly, yet so confident."
Esme was so angry she wanted to rush over and slap Emilia twice!
Thinking of why she came, she suppressed her anger and bitterness. Why could Emilia still trample on her dignity even in this state!
"Emilia, I advise you not to go too far! You need to contact Blade of Dusk and have them release my dad! Also, doesn't the Hughes family have some hidden assets? I'm part of the Hughes family too. You have to give me a share!"
Emilia finally understood what Esme was here for.
She crossed her arms and looked at Esme with her chin raised arrogantly.
"Lloyd got arrested because his brain and hands weren't clean. They say the brain looks similar to intestines, but you shouldn't fill them with the same stuff. Clearly, you inherited his intelligence."
"The people from Blade of Dusk who should be dead are dead, and those who aren't dead are locked up. Where am I supposed to find anyone?"
Blade of Dusk did have some remaining forces under Emilia's control, but she wasn't stupid. Why would she help that trash Lloyd?
"As for the Hughes family's money, Anthony isn't dead yet, is he? You'll get it faster going to him than coming to me. Otherwise, if you go too late, you might not get anything."
Who knew how long Anthony could live? Emilia was worried Esme might not reach him in time to deliver the final blow.
Not being able to see Anthony die was quite regrettable.
Esme's eyes rolled. Even if the Hughes family went bankrupt, they should still have savings. Anthony must still have money!
As long as she could get Anthony to hand over the money, her life in Imperia City would be secure.
Esme moved closer to Emilia step by step, her eyes full of malice.
"I've found you annoying for a long time! Why did you get to humiliate me like that in the Hughes family!"
Esme raised her hand to slap down, but her wrist was grabbed by another somewhat cold hand!
"It hurts!"
George's face was cold. He squeezed harder, making Esme's wrist crack—the sound of bones dislocating!
"George, how can you hit me! Let go of me!"
George grabbed Esme's hand and threw her out. When she landed, several more sounds came from her bones.
Esme was in so much pain that tears streamed out!
The fire hadn't injured her badly, but now George's actions had nearly broken all her bones!
"I'm going to report you! George, just wait to be fired! A doctor at your hospital actually hitting people!"
George looked coldly at Esme in front of him.
"To be honest, I really do want to hit you."
"Sometimes being a doctor with medical ethics is quite tiring. The day you successfully report me, I'll personally break every bone in your body."
These words were ice-cold but carried real killing intent, making Esme swallow back the words on the tip of her tongue.
George closed the hospital room door and turned to look at Emilia, who had been watching him.
"Are you an idiot? She was going to hit you. Don't you know how to dodge?"
"? She can't beat me anyway. I'm from Blade of Dusk..."
Emilia looked at the angry George, blinked, and changed what she was about to say.
"Okay, next time for sure, next time for sure."
"There won't be a next time."
George pinched the bridge of his nose and took out his phone to send a few messages.
"Esme won't bother you anymore. Before, because of Lila, our family was lenient with her. Later we discovered she was just an ungrateful wretch, always coveting Catherine and Juniper's things."
Good thing they found out not too late.
"Last time you said you were interested in electrocardiograms. I brought you authoritative literature!"
Emilia looked at the literature placed beside her, the corner of her mouth twitching.
Emilia looked at George and suddenly asked, "George, are all the kids in your family smart?"
George nodded. "Yes, Richard is the dumbest in our family, so he debuted as an actor."
"Your mom doesn't play favorites either?"
George looked at Emilia with confusion.
"Play favorites? My mom can accept a partner with my dad's level of intelligence. Richard's intelligence is still much higher than my dad's!"
Emilia covered her head with the literature and muttered to herself, "Aurora is really a good mom, but the sons she raised don't have very good brains."
Was she interested in electrocardiograms?
