Chapter 49 Chapter 49
Edina shepherd's POV.
A month later...
"Mistress, it has been over five hours, not to talk of the fruitless days we have spent here waiting for the Oracle... Will he see us today?" Katana inquired in a soft voice.
"Patience, katana. The Oracle will see us when the time is right." My eyes were shut while I tried to meditate for good positive energies around me.
Katana was right because we have been waiting for the Oracle to see us for days since we arrived but nothing fruitful was born as we were made to wait for days without even glancing at the said Oracle. He or she was a good friend of mine but I wondered why they kept me waiting and attended to other people's needs.
"Mistress, I know patience is a virtue, but this is too much stress to handle." She said with failing hands, and I could tell she was becoming very agitated. "He or she is your good friend but won't attend to you even after being announced by his gatekeepers." She sighed heavily with a scowl.
The journey to the Greek islands was a very tiresome journey, which was not for the faint of heart. It required someone who had the patience to undertake such a tedious trip to seek an audience with the most powerful Oracle Pythia.
The Oracle took many forms it desired at any given point in time. Many said it was a demon and had no specific gender..(male or female). Hence many people shunned the said Oracle, but secretly visited the shrine to seek guidance and retribution on their enemies.
"The Oracle is not a he, katana. It takes any form it wishes." I peeked at her with one eye open.
"So I heard, but is it true that it has no penis or vagina? Because I heard that it has both a penis and vagina and that it fucks itself when it feels horny." She whispered close to my ears and I could hear her whizzing.
"Katana!" I opened my eyes, stunned by her statement.
The Oracle was not gender specified because no one ever saw its nakedness or tried to make any sexual advances to prove the myth wrong. All we know is that it changed the shape of anyone it fancied. Whether man or woman, that was its choice which no one dared to question.
"The walls have ears, so I suggest you keep quiet with the nonsense you are talking about." My eyes narrowed with a scowl.
We had journeyed a long distance just to be chased away from the entrance to her shrine, hence I would not take her nonsensical foolish talk.
Upon giving attention to my utterance, katana's face drained of color as beads of sweat formed on her forehead even though the temperature in the room was cool.
I chuckled quietly.
That's what you get for talking bad about the most powerful Oracle in the world.
"Mistress Edina shepherd, the Oracle will now see you." A short lady painted with a special red unknown powder all over her body walked into the waiting area where a large number of people were all waiting to be attended to by the Oracle.
Those without patience gave up in the waiting area and went back to their homes.
"Thank you." I sighed softly and toiled to get up from the chair to go into the mystical shrine of the great oracle Pythia who was in woman's form. She sat on a high golden stool, beneath her, the earth was cracked open, and clear vapor rose from the chasm in the rock.
Pythia was in a deep trance with her eyes rolled in the back of her head, speaking gibberish, which her priest interpreted as enigmatic prophecies.
"Please, remove your shoes on the holy ground and take your seats there." Another lady smeared in red powder pinpointed in the direction of our seats.
Katana held on to me as if her life was in danger. She whimpered out loud because that was the first time entering the shrine. Most of the times I came with her she remained behind outside the shrine while I stepped in myself, because of such behavior from her.
We sat down and waited for the Oracle to speak to us first, that's when I could respond.
Pythia was frozen in trance and her utterance was so random, that I could not get anything.
A few minutes later, she became dead silent and reversed her eyes back to us.
"Edina, old friend, how are you doing?" She spoke in a raspy voice.
Pythia was over a thousand years old but she never aged a day after eighteen years old, hence her appearance was very deceiving to the eye.
"I have seen better days." I coughed out due to the incense the vapor emitted. "If only you could share the secret of your youth, maybe fewer things would ache as age catches up." I joked even though deep down I would have accepted her secret to youthfulness. I sighed softly.
"I know what you seek, but you know the rules, speak what thou heart desires then I will gladly tell you." She said with an emotionless face.
"Pythia, it's about my grandson Alpha Jacob Shepard, he has taken in another wolf mate instead of the witchress I chose for him… now what I can't seem to put my fingers on is the girl's strange aura she possesses. What can you tell me about the said girl?" I darted at Pythia with unblinking focused eye contact to get whatever she had to say about Bella.
Pythia rolled her head in one circular motion then reversed her eyes in the back of her head as though the answers I wanted were stuck in there somewhere.
"Bella Wood of the midnight pack is not just a little whippy wolf as you all call her. She is something stronger and I advise you do not interfere with her. Her future is bright if only is overcomes her fear and accepts what she is…" the Oracle paused midway and then rolled her head once again while humming mystically." Stay away from Bella wood, she is protected by strong forces who can easily defeat you and your said grandson." Pythia rolled back her eyes with heavy shuddering breathing.
My heart raced while my eyes widened. The Oracle just gave me an incomplete prophecy for the first time… why?
"Pythia, is that it?" I felt sick in my stomach with sweaty palms.
"Yes Edina, that is all I was shown. Please leave that girl alone. The moon goddess willed her to Jacob for a reason." Pythia responded.
"And what did you mean by strong forces protecting her?"
"Edina, you have overstayed your visit, leave now before you anger the gods." Her angry raspy voice sent a dreadful shiver down my spine.
With the help of katana, I quickly got up and hurriedly walked out of the shrine with katana holding onto our shoes dearly.
"We need to get back to Jacob, and warn him." I stuttered
Katana glanced at me with a quizzically stern poise. " Mistress, I don't mean any disrespect, but didn't Pythia say to leave the girl alone?" She put her hands on her hips.
"Shut up katana, my grandson needs to marry a witch and not that Bella girl, now get in the car we have a long way home." I got into the car and slammed the door. Sank the window halfway after taking notice of her not getting into the car. "Tell me if you want to remain here because I will gladly tell the driver to drive out and leave you alone."
Katana gave me a raised eyebrow before hurriedly walking into the car.
"Driver, take us back to Romania," I said, dreading the long distance back home.
