Chapter 116 Furious Out of Shame

Unfortunately, this family was never meant to be united.

Lewis's face was a mask, his voice icy and distant. "I only have one sister."

Vernon finally got it. Lewis's main goal was to get rid of Lorenzo, making sure he never had a shot at the company again.

Even though Vernon had seen this coming, being pushed into a corner by his own son still made his blood boil.

"I'm your father! Is this how you talk to me?" When logic failed, he tried to play the emotional card.

But Lewis was the last person to be swayed by emotions.

He shot Vernon a cold look. "If Lorenzo leaves now, I'll give him ten million dollars. As long as he stays away from the Anderson family, he can do whatever he wants. Otherwise, I'll make sure he has nowhere to go."

"You! Are you out of your mind? We're family! Where do you expect him to go?" Vernon was genuinely panicking now.

This meant Lorenzo wouldn't be able to stay in this city.

"We will never be a family. Dad, you'd better make your choice."With that, Lewis turned and walked away.

Gloria sighed helplessly and looked at Vernon. "Lewis is already being very kind. Otherwise, given his usual methods, Lorenzo would be dead by now."

"Dad, don't push it too far," she said before quickly leaving.

They were all grown-ups, and suddenly Vernon had an illegitimate child competing for everything. The fact that they were still talking to him civilly was already a big concession.

Outside, Gloria got into Lewis's car.

"Lewis, you handled this well. But why didn't you tell me earlier? I thought you really didn't like Emmie anymore!" she smiled at Lewis. "Now that everything's settled, shouldn't you start planning your engagement? Emmie's a good girl; you can't just leave her hanging."

She knew Lewis was smart. There was no way he would abandon his first love for someone like Daphne. It seemed all his previous actions were just a show to protect Emily.

Despite his tough exterior, he could be quite considerate at times.

"I'll say it again: I won't get engaged to Emily. Mind your own business. Do what you're supposed to do, and wait for your dividends. Don't cause trouble for me." Lewis looked at her impatiently.

Their relationship had been good, but Gloria's increasing greed and control had made Lewis resistant.

However, Gloria didn't mind his attitude and just smiled. "I know you're just shy. Don't worry, I'm your sister. Your problems are my problems. I'll help you with your concerns."

She reached out and ruffled his hair, just like when they were kids.

This small gesture softened Lewis a bit.

"You go home first. I have things to do." he finally softened his tone.

Gloria beamed as she got out of the car and drove to Daphne's house, only to find it empty. She then headed to the orphanage.

Daphne had grown up with the Anderson family's support, so there weren't many places she could go. Finding her wasn't difficult.

Seeing Gloria storming in, Daphne quickly approached her. She didn't want to worry Moira.

As Daphne approached, Gloria sneered. "So you knew I'd come. You should understand by now that Lewis only has eyes for Emmie. Stop dreaming!"

She pulled out a card. "You've worked hard. Here's a million dollars for your trouble. Combined with what you got before, it should be enough."

"The Anderson family has been more than generous. Don't push your luck. Pack your things and leave!" Gloria threw the card at Daphne's face, the sharp edge cutting her cheek.

In the past, Daphne would have resisted fiercely. But now, she smiled, bent down, and picked up the card in front of Gloria. "Your brother, the future heir of the Anderson family, is only worth this much?"

A million dollars sounded like a lot, but her current salary was much higher.

Gloria couldn't believe how much Daphne had changed in just one afternoon.

Her eyebrows furrowed as she glared at Daphne. "How much do you want?"

"It's not about what I want; it's about what you're willing to give. After all, you're not buying my future; you're buying your brother's future, aren't you?" Daphne couldn't help but laugh, dripping with sarcasm.

Being mocked by someone she looked down on, Gloria was furious and slapped her hard. "You bitch! How dare you demand more from me? Do you think staying will get you anywhere?"

"Even if you try your hardest, you'll never get into the Anderson family!"

Gloria's words were harsh but true.

Daphne rubbed her stinging face, finally losing her patience and slapped Gloria back. "Gloria, do you think you can do whatever you want?"

"You... you dare hit me?" Gloria was genuinely shocked that the usually submissive Daphne dared to fight back.

"Why not? You can hit me, but I can't hit you?" she sneered, "Gloria, instead of wasting time here, you should go talk to your brother! It's not that I don't want to leave; he won't let me! Goodbye."

With that, Daphne turned and walked away.

She couldn't stand to look at Gloria any longer.

She had endured Gloria's abuse for Lewis's sake, but now that she didn't want Lewis anymore, why should she tolerate Gloria?

She wasn't born to be submissive!

Watching her walk away, Gloria's face burned with anger. "Bitch, you'll pay for this!"

With that, Gloria stormed off.

The next day, at the Anderson Group, in the CEO's office.

Gloria walked in with a swollen face and threw her bag at Lewis. "Look at what Daphne did!"
