Poison in the wound
Poison in the wound
Present Day
Alex wasn't sure why he mind kept going back to the past. Maybe it was the fact that he had seen Crystal again. Then again it could be Misha that has some how come back from the dead. It was strange that people from his past came coming back into his life. Hem had come back to his life many times over the years. Maybe he should just leave the past in the past. He knew that Misha had stayed at the house for almost two years before she died. The man she was scared of had found her after all, but it was dumb luck that he found out where she was. A simple trip to the store gave her away. After he killed her Alex tore him apart, he would never touch another woman again. He never told Misha that he had done it, but he would do it again in a heart beat. It wasn't love with Misha, not at that point. Even now he didn't know that he loved her. Fear was pushing things into a tunnel that it wouldn't fit in.
They hadn't heard anything from Crystal about what was happening in the human world. He wasn't even sure that the letter got to her. The only thing he knew for sure was that magic was still leaking into the human world. It had spread past the clearing of the lake. Human's were starting to notice the change in the area. So far no one had put it on the TV but it was a matter of time. Human's would come to the area and find something they really shouldn't be there to start with. Maybe he should try and send another letter, but he didn't think it would help much.
"Alex?" Misha called his name pulling him out of his thinking.
"Yes?" Alex called back.
"You are lost in thought. How far back did you go?" Misha put her hand under chin looking over at him.
"When we frist met." Alex smiled at the shock on her face. "I have dwelling in the past of late. Things that could have happened but didn't. Seeing you killed didn't help my much. I have played it over and over in my mind."
"That was horrible, I can tell you that. I still can't believe he actually killed me." Misha shuddered as she spoke. "I am sitll not sue how I ended up a vampire."
"It is strange that you don't know who turned you. Most people know who bites and drains them, then feeds them blood." Alex told her with a smile, that faultered when he saw the look on her face.
They sat there for a few moments as he tried to get his foot out of his mouth. Misha didn't say anything because she really didn't know how she didn't know. It was strange that Misha had no memory of the turn. Though she did recall being taken out of the ground and getting out of the coffin. Thankfully they hadn't cremated her. That would have been horrible. Misha shuddered at the thought. Thankfully she had kept her life well she thought was her life. It was a horror when she attacked a human to drink his blood. She had almost killed the poor man. It had taken her months to get used to drinking blood.
"Now who is lost in thought." Alex said as he looked at her face. "Horrors of the past?"
"Just thoughts on when I frist...well attacked a human. I almost killed the poor man." Misha told him her cheeks brighting slightly.
"It happens to everyone truely." Alex sighed as he thought back to his. "Though I had Crystal with me, so it never truely happened to me. She would always make sure I only took so much. Mind you there happen to be times after I was older that I harmed the human I drank from. It is why I am greatful for bagged blood."
"She always had a way about her, bet she never harmed a human." Misha sighed but the look on Alex's face told a different story.
"Crystal really didn't give a shit about human's. I can recall many times when she would just kill them to keep from having to mess with the memory. Though she never let me kill like that, she would do it herself." Alex had always wondered why she was like that. Maybe it was the fae in her. "So no she wasn't a saint."
"I can't belive she would do that. Not even a little." Misha almost laughed at the thought.
"So off the topic of her, what are you doing tonight?" Alex asked with a smile.
"I was thinking about going to the movies, but then I didn't see any I wanted to watch. So I figure I will stick at home and watch some TV." Misha told him with a sigh.
"Not many good movies of late. So many movies are on the TV now a day. I am still wondering why the fae haven't gotten back to us. I would figure that they would want to keep this out of the news." Alex told her but see she didn't care.
"It does seem strange that they haven't gotten back to you. Though it doesn't shock me either. I really don't now a thing about the fae to be honest. If the queen is like any other she is very busy with her people." Misha wish she could figure something out for him.
"Normally I would agree, but Crystal never wanted to out the fae to the humans. So I am not really sure what is going on, unless she was harmed during the fiting. Like Hem was, that wound still hasn't healed all the way. It is almost like a poison is fighting there healing. Including the magic that had started healing them." That made Alex jump up off the couch, he went up to his office to find the one book Crystal had given him years ago.
"What was that about?" Misha asked as she entered the room.
"I remembered something that I read years ago. It was about a poison that keeps wounds open to kill the person slowly." Alex flipped through the pages finally finding the one he needed. "Here it is."
Alex read through the page again then almost dropped it. Putting the book on the desk he ran to Hem's room to find him coughing on his bed. He pushing into the room going to his side. Putting a hand on his head he felt the fever burning in him.
"Hem?" Alex called his name but the man didn't answer. "Travis, wake up."
"Oh god, what's wrong." Misha asked when he saw Hem on the bed. Black veins spread across his chest. Sweat was rolling down his face.
"Grab some towels, cool water. We have to cool him off." Alex told her trying to get Hem to wake up. "Hem wake up you daft bastard!"
Alex watched as Misha went to grab those things. He pulled Hem to sit up so he could help him.
