Present Day
Takayla couldn't believe that a man like Alex would act like this. She did understand that he was upset with what had happened. It wasn't just his fault however and she had told him that many different times. This trip was supposed to help him not make things worse. Takayla felt horrible that she had been the reason they came back here. Alex could have said no but he wanted to make Takayla feel safe around him. It hadn't taken long for her to notice that Alex had been holding himself back and away from them. This wasn't going to end will and Takayla didn't want to think of what would truely happen to Alex if he didn't drink soon. Hem had been calling around for the blood banks for vampires. After almost two hours he finally found one that had blood that could be sent over to the hotel. Hem knew that this hotel treasured Alex and his business to the hotel.
"How are you going to get him to drink it?" Takayla asked when Hem took the blood to the bedroom.
"IV would be the best way, but I have a feeling we won't find one." Hem moved toward the bed sitting the blood on the table.
It took Hem almost twenty mintues to get an IV in. Alex didn't flinch or move when the blood started going through the tubes. They watched as he started to pink up and fill out again. It took them almost three bags to finally get him to open his eyes. The moment he did Takayla felt her heart break a little. He looked from her to hem then to the tubes. It didn't take long for him to notice that they had put an IV in.
"Alexander I have been with you long enough to know what you where doing. I know you aren't happy right now but you going without isn't making things better. We both know that you are upset that Crystal left. Also that your life is out of balance. You can't go without feeding. That is a danger to us not just you. You could have attacked us and drained us dry without a thought. Don't even try to say you are sorry again. We both know that you are sorry. Don't be sorry be better than this rut you have been in." Hem spoke to Alex with heat in his words. "You are my friend and I don't want to see you doing this again."
"Alex you could have just told me no. I understand bad memories and hating a place. I would have been fine with going some other place. Don't do that again please. I know that you want to fix what happened. It wasn't just your fault, it was all of us." Takayla told him sniffling as she spoke. "I have come to love you like a brother and would hate to see you leave me so soon."
Alex sat up looking at the two people int he room with him. It hadn't dawned on him that it would upset them. He figured that Hem had explained things to Takyla about the hotel and the city. It really wasn't a place he wanted to stay. When he finally took in the room he could see the differences in it, but he could still see the stains. This city wasn't one he wanted to come back to again. So he looked to Takyla then to Hem. With a nod he looked at the tube in his arm. Then to Hem.
"Thank you, I can't say I am sorry enough and I know you don't want to hear it. Both of you don't need to have to worry about me. I should be better not worse." Alex sighed as he looked at his friends. "I suggest we leave here and go back home for a while."
"That is a good idea." Takayla smiled brightly as she left the room to start packing.
"I will call and let the pilot know we are leaveing." Hem told Alex as he cleaned up the empty bags letting the last one to finish.
"You know I can drink the blood now." Alex called from the room looking at the IV then to the door way.
"Nope, you have to deal with the IV." Hem called back to him.
Three hours later they boarded the jet to head back to Norfolk. They had been gone for almost a year and it was time to see his dogs again. He had been keeping track of the dogs with his son. They would video chat letting him see the dogs. Both dogs hated when Alex traveled without them. So he would send them things so they knew he didn't forget them. The flight wasn't over two hours or so. When they landed a car pulled up to pick them up. His son opened the door to help with the luggage. Finally they started back toward the house.
"How was the trip?" Victor asked as they drove to the house. They all looked tired from travel.
"A few bumps in the road." Hem told him not giving more details than that.
"Is that why you are back already?" Victor had figured that they would be gone longer than a year.
"Partly." Alex explained to his son but didn't go into detail at the moment.
As they drove up to the house Alex saw a new car in the driveway. He didn't recall having that car before he left. Did Victor buy a new one? Hem looked worried but didn't say anything to Alex about it. They all got out of the car grabbing bags as they turned toward the house. Victor unlocked and opened the front door. Two large blurrs ran toward the front door. Stopping cold when Alex looked at him with warning.
"I miss you two, but you know better than to run in the house." Alex told them giving them both a pat after putting the bags down. "I know you are mad I left for so long."
Both dogs whined when Hem didn't give them pats. They turned their heads toward Takayla who smiled brightly when they tackled her to the floor. She was laughing so hard at the two of them that she didn't notice the look on Victor's face. Finally Alex was able to get the two up and moveing so they could get the bags put away. Hem had gone into the kitchen giving them both bowls of food. It seemed to make them happy even after he didn't pat their heads.
"Who's here Victor?" Alex asked when he finally got up again.
"What?" Victor looked at his father like he had lost his mind.
"Who is in the house?" Alex asked again not liking having to repeat himself.
"Umm, I..." Victor looked at Alex then sighed. "She knows you."
"She? Who the hell are you talking about? Why would you allow someone into this house without askin me about them?" Alex was trying not to raise his voice.
"Well umm..." Victor started but a voice cut in.
