Chapter 25 Chapter 25 Joining Forces
Chapter 25 Chapter 25 Joining Forces
We heard voices coming from the entrance. I should have placed guards there. Too late now. Whoever it was didn’t care if anyone heard them.. They were getting closer…
We braced for a fight. I pulled my warriors back, “Stay ready!” as we shifted, hiding just behind a bend in the cave, waiting to charge.
K'awiil knew we were there; he had followed my scent, his smile triggered his need to tease me, and he vanished, appearing just behind me, his hands on my ass.
“Hello, beautiful,” he purred. I almost jumped out of my skin. My beast rawred baring fangs at him, he chuckled.
“Even in beast form, you are gorgeous!”
He was annoying to say the least, his ability to gauge others' stress and worry was non-existent. I shifted back, giving him a look of unbelief.
King Pakal walked up behind us, “Please excuse his … well, you know. I’m King Pakal. We came as fast as we could.” I turned to him, stunned at his height. He was just as tall as Rryan was.
I had never met him before. I was shocked, wishing Kira were here.
“You must be, Syla. We have heard great things about you and your mother.” he looked around at the collapsed cavern. He scanned the area, motioning to his men..
“Spread out, help where you can!” he ordered his warriors. Taking a place next to me, standing by my side, he towered over me.
Lyra watched him; she had heard tales of him as well. He was almost as feared as King Rryan. She teleported just behind me, but remained invisible, her shadowborn powers fully activated.
I'm here, just behind you, my Queen. she reassured me.
I could feel her there and knew her poisoned dagger was in her hand, ready. She was deadly in her powers. He didn’t have a chance.
But nothing got past K'awiil; he knew she was there also.
“I would not make any questionable moves, King Pakal,” he warned with a grin, watching her cloaked and ready.
His amusement piqued. He liked dangerous females; it was his weakness.
Suddenly, we heard shouts, “Here!, Someone is buried under the rubble.”
I was there is an instant, my clawed hands pulling out jagged boulders that must have weighed tons, my adrenaline pumping.
Hours later, we could hear faint sounds. We all froze, listening. Groans only a few feet below the rubble, we move more carefully.
I caught his scent.
King Danyel!
He was barely alive when we pulled him free, unconscious. I stayed by his side as they carried him to Lyra. She ripped his shirt open, large bruises covered his chest. She went to work on him; her magic was not as strong as Kira’s, but it was working.
“Why aren’t they healing? this is not right,” I looked to the others, but no one knew. K'awiil leaned in, “This is the work of dark magic…”
Then my mind was invaded with sheer panic…
SYLA! I can't find them! Lydia’s voice rushed through my thoughts.
What do you mean? You can't find them! I stood up, my body shaking. I couldn’t take much more chaos..
They are gone! she was hysterical. I’ve searched everywhere, why can’t I see them, my visions, they are gone as well!
My mind began to waver, I lost my footing, and everything faded.
K'awiil caught me before I hit the ground. “Is she ok?” Valin shouted from his makeshift bed, trying to get up, but Lyra stopped him.
“She’s ok, she just fainted,” he said as Lyra tended to me.
“Why? What happened?” he asked, but they had no clue.
“I saw her eyes glaze over, and then she was down,” Lyra said. Dipping a cloth into the cold water that the King's men had fetched. K'awiil stayed close to me, his eyes narrow; he knew who was behind it. He spoke with the gods of the underworld.. Mindlinked.. They all whispered amongst the hoard..
“Someone mindlinked with her, do you think it could have been King Rryan?” Valin asked.
“I don’t know,” K'awiil said, still connected to the dark realm.
“We are working blind here,” Lyra said.
Then it happened..
Suddenly, the air shifted, and everyone froze… Camazotz appeared with Kira fading in behind him.
His size was that of giants, his voice thundered. As he roared to unseen forces, still creating chaos.
“BY WHO’S AUTHORITY!!! ....” he shouted, not directed at us, but to the unseen forces still busy with their chaos, they quickly retreated in terror. The mountain trembled, and dust rose.
He walked straight through solid stone walls, in search of his Grandson..Everyone watched with our mouths open.. No one dared to make a sound, trying not to bring his attention to themselves.. He was already angry.. And that was never good.
